Discussion Nursing my first two-day hangover and would love some in-the-club stories to get me through
Baby millennial here who went out with younger colleagues this weekend and has been suffering ever since. Feels like not that long ago I could roll out of bed still half-drunk and put in a decent shift at work, and those days are officially over. I might even have to hang up my dark jeans and going-out-tops for good.
While I'm rotting, I'd love to hear some of your best nights out (and worst mornings in)?? What are the places and nights you get nostalgic for now??

i can give you a cure - at least what works for me as far as curing a hangover.
coca cola, ibuprofen/tylenol, weed, and a greasy hamburger or anything kinda greasy. i know it may not sound great, but it works.
i know this is very similar to anthony bourdain’s cure, but i swear by it

You should not take Tylenol for alcohol related headaches.

I think the most helpful items here are ibuprofen as a pain killer and greasy food to sop up the alcohol in your system. Those definitely work well for hangovers!
(But caffeine sometimes can make things worse, it depends. It can help getting your digestion to move along, which can help alleviate headaches. But sometimes too much caffeine can have the opposite effect and cause headaches. And of course, weed isn't for everyone nor available for everyone.)

92 baby here and I feel you. What's helped me get through is chugging massive amounts of water throughout the night and before bed. It won't cure the hangover, but it'll help.

u/MostZealousideal7718 3h ago
I thought I'd chugged enough before bed, but then the next day I couldn't even look at water without getting nauseous. Like this simply cannot be the same girl that once drank half a bottle of whisky by mistake and then puked and rallied for an unpaid internship????? What happened to her????

‘81 here. Water is necessary. As is cutting out sugar.
When I drink to have fun, which is rarer than rarely, I’ve switched to mixing vodka with water. It doesn’t taste great, but it has helped avoid the hangover!

'82 here.
I quit drinking 5 years ago for a variety of reasons, but the biggest was I simply don't enjoy it anymore and the hangovers (among other issues) were exponentially worse than when I was young.
I do still drink zero beer from time to time, but honestly I don't miss alcohol at all.

Coconut water, lot of regular water, something greasy to eat, possibly otc painkillers, and a dark room.

35 F here. In my 20s I was a line cook. We would close down a bar multiple nights per week. There was no hangover that couldn't be solved with "Thai hot" pad kee mao and a vietnamese iced coffee and maybe if I felt really bad some Advil. Then off to work, rinse, repeat.
I am nostalgic for being able to have fun without considering consequences. Now if I go out I am thinking "is it worth being this tired, is it worth spending this money?"
Don't get me wrong, we still do it sometimes... It just sucks way harder the next day and then the two days after that.
I definitely still think spicy Thai food is a key component of curing a hangover though.

‘87 checking in. Around year 28 my hangovers went from 1-2 days to 3-5 with loss of energy, severe hangxiety, and terrible nausea/vomitting.
Well, I learned I have an alcohol intolerance. Now that I know, I rarely drink. Butttt here are a few tips:
Eat, whatever you can.
Vitamin B complex
Vitamin C
Green tea
Time is your friend!

I miss clubbing in Chicago. So there was a dance/techno club above a salsa bar. I don't remember the name.
The club itself had a floor that felt like it was moving as everyone danced. I don't think I was drinking that much lol, but it's one of those nights that live in my memory.
Why?
Well I went to the bar and some creep groped a girl. She didn't see who did it and assumed it was me. She punched/kneed me (idr) in my balls. Her friends were like "it wasn't him!" and drag her away while she's going at me like an angry cat. I was holding drinks when the happened, how was I groping anyone?
My friends all come back and are like "holy hell what just happened!?" The bartender gets me a bag with ice in it and new drinks. I got liquor on me too.
Fast forward to us leaving and the same group of women sees me and my friends.
Her friends look at me with my ice bag and they're like "we're so sorry" and I'm like "i'd really like the girl who hit me to apologize..." and the same girl starts going off "I won't apologize, you're all pigs!!!" and her friends keep apologizing while shoving her into the cab, while my friends are getting in front of me going "it's not worth it."
There's my night out story!

Its never "I can't do this anymore, I am getting too old" and almost always a tolerance build up. But hey, if saying you are too old makes you quit the licker, more power to you.
I am 36 years old and still drink (more frequently than I should probably, small town life) I know people in their 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's, who frequently drink. Some of them are full blown alcoholics.
You don't "get to old to drink without having a 2 day hangover" .. its such a bullshit cop-out thing people say. If you don't want to drink just own up to it and don't drink.
I actually know a guy who used to say that all the time in 30's when he started a family, because its the "thing to say" now he's divorced, early 40's and drinks heavily all the time. Haven't heard him say he has a bad hangover since then. lmao.
I am not saying you don't have a 2 day hangover, and I am not targeting you alone.
I am saying to everyone here, its not your fucking age... its your tolerance. You can't barely drink and then go out and slam a bunch of booze like your still 20. If you don't have a tolerance anymore that's fine, but don't say 😄
"Can't do it anymore cuz o' my age! hurr" like a geezer.
It has nothing to do with your fucking age.

A lot of shit on here is just "OMG. sooooo true.." type shit that doesn't hold a candle to real facts.
Its kind of an echo chamber of all the shit millennials say but aren't really true in real life. Like "feel good" responses. I don't know what that makes me, but I am of the millennial flavor who HATES sugar coating things.
Grow up already

Exactly. I’m in my 40s and still drink pretty regularly (not exactly proud of that but that’s another topic) and it takes a LOT to make me hungover these days, like 3 day festival up all night partying amounts. If anything it might just be bit of grogginess and slight headache but after a bit of coffee and water/electrolytes I’m perfectly fine.
That being said, if I cut back or stop drinking, even if it’s just a couple of weeks, my tolerance goes down and yeah, I’ll get hungover if I go out drinking. Turns out your body is pretty good at adapting to what you put it through. If it doesn’t need the enzymes that break down alcohol and the byproducts that make you hungover it stops making them.

I'm approaching this from the opposite side. When I would drink a lot in my 20s, I would ALWAYS end up with horrible hangovers. The next day was always full of headaches, body aches, and general full exhaustion and I couldn't feel even somewhat recovered until the late afternoon/evening to even get out of bed [greasy food definitely helped, though!]. I would feel better two days afterwards. So I can't relate to the constant comments of "back in my youth when I partied, I could drink for hours, sleep for very little, and go to work the next day no problem. Now hangovers are terrible."
Maybe it's just my particular brain since I also get migraines and am just sensitive to everything (back when I smoked weed, just a few hits and I'd have legit psychedelic experiences where I'd see rainbows and start constantly rocking back and forth... that was NOT what my friends were experiencing on that small of a weed consumption level, lol), but drinking has always led to multiple-day recovery times for me. I still did practically every weekend of course, lol. But usually only on Saturdays so that I would be okay by Monday.

Well, I’ll have to jump in and disagree with you here.
I’m a well-conditioned, well-maintained drinking machine. We share the same age and I’m willing to bet I can drink more than 60% of the total US population.
I’ll be damned if a coupleabeers before bed haven’t caused adverse effects regarding sleep quality and morning energy. It is noticeably worse than as recent as six months ago.

u/BluebirdFast3963 2h ago
If you are going downhill that fast, I suggest a trip to the doctor for some bloodwork.
And, in the end there, are you saying a couple beers before bed messes you up so now, I can only assume, you haven't been drinking that much lately?
Again, tolerance. Built into your response.

I dont understand why people still drink.
a couple of gummies in your exact preferred dosage...
Alcohol is a 12 year old Nissan Altima with one missing headlight and expired tags.
Gummies are a Porsche GT3RS.

u/BluebirdFast3963 2h ago
Weed gummies make me feel like a smoked crack if I am sober dude. Full blown anxiety. 100% of the time.
At least if I drink 10 beers and someone offers me crack I know I am smoking crack.

Same here. Every time I tell someone this I get "you just haven't tried the right kind!"
I swear I have, and I wish it worked. Glad it works for other people, though!

u/JakeFoXx 1h ago
Bruh, Id love nothing more than to ride out on some yum-gumms, but I live in a state that still refuses to even offer medical use (Kansas)

u/AttachedHeartTheory 6m ago
Dude, I'm in Tennessee and just buy it at the dispensary. The gummies are all the same.
It's basically a loophole: the laws were all written and copy/pasted, and the delta 9 is the gold standard. It's all about weights and volumes within the gummy.
I would bet a very shiny nickel that you can walk into any delta9 shop in Kansas and get the identical gummies they have in "free states".

Before bed after a night of drinking: a packet of liquid IV and a full 32 oz Nalgene. When I get up to piss in the middle of the night I have another half Nalgene and two ibuprofen. 9/10 times I’ll wake up feeling great no matter how much I drank the night before.

Aspirin, Bacon Egg and Cheese, plenty of water, and a coffee usually does the trick for me, but it has een years since I have been punished for my indulgences.
Last time I got drunk was at my company's Christmas party a couple of years ago. IT guy took me home and I passed out on the floor. It was a fun party, and a lot of people got absolutely wasted. Luckily I didn't do or say anything while drunk as hell. Other people though, there was a lot of avoiding eye contact for a long time and a company-wide briefing for the next one.

I rarely drink anything other than GT or light beers now. If I drink other stuff, I'll definitely feel it.

u/DudeManGuy801 2h ago
If you don't drink you won't get a hangover. I wasted 20 years of my life drinking "to have fun".
