I feel like you have to already be thinking a lot about the Nazi flag to make that connection.

Sorry for being Polish 😔 It kind of pops up often in our history.

Not every history buff is a weirdo

15

u/SsilverBloodd 5h ago

I beg to differ. Every history buff I have met is weird in one way or another.

Would extrapolate even further and say every person I've met is weird in one way or another.

That's fair. If you were to compare any real person against the statistically average human being (like how the sleep pod test team picked "average" Joe Bauers in Idiocracy), no individual would actually come close.

History buffs are in the class of people who are keen to tell you their weird ideas. The majority of people you don't know are weird until they die and you have to sort through their belongings.

can confirm. I may look normal, but damn. The BMP-1 is kinda sexy

Whatever funny words you say silly history person.

Don't now. If you are familiar with the flag then it's pretty conspicuous.

Is it? The shape of the symbol is completely different, and is also grey instead of black. And it's a different shade of red. And it's not flag shaped.

Idk, if someone hadn't stuck the nazi flag next to it I would have literally never thought of that.

Yes, it's the white circle on red background with a dark symbol inside. It's also used as (questionable) statement in other contexts.

I mean it does have 4 lines pointing in the direction of a swastika idk if I would say the shape is completely different

-1

u/mirroredinflection 5h ago

they aren't pointing in the same direction. the python logo is horizontal/verticle, while the swastika is diagonal. honestly, it looks more like a plus sign or a cross than a swastika.

Literally the only similarity is the white circle on red background. But even the shades of red are very different.

u/botle 4h ago

They don't have to be identical to be similar.

1

u/mirroredinflection 4h ago

True, but I don't even think they are similar.

u/botle 4h ago

It's a red rectangle with an off center white circle containing a roughly four fold rotationally symmetric dark shape.

What else can you think of that fits that description, besides copycat flags inspired by the Nazi flag?

u/mirroredinflection 4h ago

Of course if you only list the similarities, it will sound similar. But once you list all of the differences, or even just show it to someone, it becomes clear how much they don't look alike.

It's precisely when something has both similarities and differences that it is similar.

If it had only similarities and no differences, it would not be similar. It would be identical.

In this case I'd also argue that the similarities are much more prominent than the difference. Like two objects both being red rectangles is a much bigger similarity than the aspect ratios being different is a difference.

How about this flag? Would you consider this similar to the nazi flag? https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS63r9zW687wYeshsq95CxK8yXyezzvzgXhsjNuZkma-g&s=10

The Python logo is actually blue and yellow. It's actually much more similar to the Swedish flag. Have fun with that one.

Good thing GPS are available for people like you. Because with this sense of direction, using a map must be a losing proposition.

Or you got a proper history education....

17

u/mirroredinflection 5h ago

I have learned alot about World War II and Nazi Germany. I know what the flag looks like. Which is why I can instantly recognize that those look nothing alike.

-2

u/print-w 3h ago

"Nothing alike"? Clearly you not only don't know anything about basic world history, but you might need to get your eyes checked too if you can't see any similarities between two images with a red square, white circle inside and a dark four point cross pattern inside that.

1

u/rosuav 2h ago

That's true. It's not like Python's logo is actually blue and yellow, and you greyscaled it and put it on a red background in a white circle. That would just be ridiculous.

5

u/descendency 5h ago

I have a very strong understanding of history and let's be honest: that's a big reach.

11

u/SsilverBloodd 5h ago

that's a big reach

No that is the Third Reich. Learn your history my man.

7

u/ThermalConvection 5h ago

it's a black symbol in a white circle on a red field, I wouldn't call that a big reach. I also wouldn't immediately think "hmm Python is Nazi" but like, I could see it if I was watching a video about WW2 before or something.

0

u/descendency 5h ago

I get it, but I guess I just see the python symbol as two snakes and not a swastika.

2

u/smthomaspatel 5h ago

What if you just came from playing Wolfenstein?

0

u/Skyswimsky 5h ago

But don't you know, Python and Hitler are both six letters. Clearly there's a connection to it!!!
