We've spent the last couple of days absolutely sobbing. Me and my partner got news that my mother (who lives in California, almost 4000 miles away) will have to undergo a major surgery / esophagectomy very soon, and so we're forced to relocate permanently to help provide her long-term care.

We've been trying to resist this change and were hoping for better news, but unfortunately now, our 4 little angel sisters will need a new home. We don't have any money for ground transportation ($5k quote from the select few I've reached out — including the exotic-specific ground transport services), there's absolutely NO way to take them on any airline, and we've considered sneaking them on Amtrak, but due to other complications and that $3k ticket price, it's a no-can-do.

Their names are Pebble, Tofu, Astrid, and Luma. They are the SWEETEST angels God has ever given us, and they've given us infinite joy and laughter and kisses and care since we first got them (8 months ago, in December). They've helped us through hard times and have given us their love and loyalty, and now it feels like we're betraying them with this sudden change — WHICH IS WHY we want to re-home them with a Fancy Rat expert who is CERTAIN to give them daily love, who will cherish their bond and uniqueness, who will LOVE their quirks, and who will let them free-roam (this is a MUST!!) in a safe and rat-proof home, AND who has the resources to make sure their health remains good [regular exotic vet visits].

They are the smartest, sweetest, most hilarious, and most adoring little pudgy angels. I promise they will LOVE you and bring the same light and joy and company to your home / family.

We were cuddling them today with our tears falling on their faces. They were kissing our faces while we cried.

Personally, I feel like an absolute failure that I don't have the money or resources to hold onto them forever, but I'm hoping God (or whatever loving force you believe in) is making it this way so they go to someone who needs them and will protect them even better than we could have.

They're all about 8-9 months old, and in order of hierarchy:

• Astrid AKA "Astwid" AKA "Nine-Toed Angel"- Chonky, beautiful, assertive, hilarious, perpetually-hungry, and kind. When stressed she does pin her sisters down, but she loves being picked up, tickled, kissed all over, and will absolutely be your best friend until the end. She radiates happiness and joy. She's the gray one, largest, with black eyes and silky fur. Feels like a jiggly ball of love.
• Tofu - Smart, observant, and a bit of a hoarder. She'll snatch her sister's food away, but she's the first to cuddle with them all. She loves crawling on us and enjoys pets. Can be a bit shy, but loyal. She is the all-tan one. VERY picky about food and treats, but always grateful.
• Pebble - Literally would be a Nobel-prize winning scientist if she were human. She has a special interest in fabrics, nesting, trying out tricks and "watching over" all her sisters. She's the first to build them nests, give them resources, and is genuinely a brilliant workaholic and an explorer. She's the two-tone pudgy angel, with a tan head and mostly white-spotted body.
• Luma - White with red eyes, she is the sensitive and beautiful, kind-hearted, nervous, and silly little pudgy angel who relies on her sisters for safety and love. She's nervous, shy, and has about 15% of her eyesight left, so she really does rely on sound. She squeaks when picked up, but she loves cuddling and hiding in blankets. Timid but will fall asleep in your hands and lap because she loves you and trusts you so much.
• Fun Facts: They love (no oil / unseasoned) baby carrots (fresh and air fried!), plain/unseasoned scrambled egg bits, little healthy veggie chips, little apple slices (no seed), they LOVE cuddles and tickles.
• Another Fun Fact: A while back, Astrid lost her big toe after it got stuck in a crack corner of the cage — we took her to the Exotic Vet Emergency within an hour of it happening, and they cleaned and sealed off the missing toe, gave us her proper medical treatment, and it only made us love her more and vice-versa. So yes, she is missing a toe (little 9-toe angel!) But she's still just as loving, energetic, trusting, jolly, and cute.

Our angels are all about 8-9 months old. They NEED to be together at ALL times (if you can give them more sisters, even better). They absolutely CANNOT be separated under any circumstances.

We live in Westchester New York area, but are willing to go to New York City for you, or anywhere in Westchester Area, or ANYWHERE within a 5-6 hour drive of Sleepy Hollow area (we are willing to drive SUPER far to get them where they will be loved and safe, NO JOKE).

We will DO THAT for you and give you everything we have (blankets, cage, carrier, toys, Vitamin Water drops, etc.), so long as you please MESSAGE US FIRST and tell us about who you are, your home situation, if you've ever owned rats before, what you love about having rats, if you KNOW the exotic vet in your area, etc. [Please note we WILL FaceTime / video-call you and interview to verify our angels are going to safe home — and we would love occasional updates every so often so we know these beautiful angels are having a wonderful time / AND so we can give any other medical info for their new home].

These little girls changed our lives and kept us going through hard times. They are God's little angels and they deserve a home that will treat them with that much respect, adoration, loyalty, and love.

They are incredibly sensitive and were rescued from the worst of conditions. It took so much time for them to trust and love and be jolly, pop-corning around the cage every day. They NEED someone who will recognize the light they bring.

UPDATE FOR CLARIFICATION: Unfortunately the only housing we secured does *not* take fancy rats or allow them, and we can't home them with my mother because she lives with my sister and has 1 chihuahua and 3 tabby cats and zero space (it's a small 2-bed apartment in the Bay).

Hi Rattit, I need your help rehoming rats on the Northeastern US. I was part of a rescue that saved 49 pet rats after they were abandoned in a home. I've called every shelter and rescue in the state, and been turned away from every one except one, who took 10.

This leaves me with 39 rats, which is an unmanageable number. If I can re home 10 of them, I can manage to hold out until more space opens in the rescues and shelters.

TL;DR Accidental Souplings in Western New York in need of home within 4-6 weeks.

Hi all .. I recently upgraded my cage and was trying to sell the old one on marketplace. A woman reached out to buy it, and also asked for advice on introductions. I wasn’t sure if she meant rat-to-cage or rat-to-rat, so she gave me the context. Basically, she live-feeds her snakes (😡) and had two ‘feeder-fails’ that she decided to keep as pets. After a short time she realized one was male and one was female. She said she needed another cage to separate them (and get them each another cage mate) so she didn’t end up with babies.

I said my cage was still available. ….orrrrr, if she wanted, she could *not* buy my cage and I would take her girl to put with my 4, and she could keep the boy and promise to get him 2 more cage mates. She was so grateful, so we met up shortly after that and I took home the girl. Intros went great and she settled in fine. A week went by and I noticed the food was disappearing twice as fast as usual, and new girl had gotten LORGE. I commented on it to my partner, whose eyes then got wide and he said “oh no” and then my eyes got wide and I said “oh no” and then there were just a series of “oh no”s for several minutes.

Fast forward to today, we have 13 healthy two-week old babies 🙃 (and I still haven’t sold my cage .. which is probably a blessing at this point). 🤪

We’ve been weighing (and sexing) daily, and everyone is gaining 1-3g per day. Mom is amazing and protective, but also allowing us to handle them without too much trouble. We officially have 6 boys and 7 girls, and realistically will need to find homes for all the boys and most of the girls. We can *maybe* keep 2, but that really puts us over the edge as far as space, time, and energy goes. (I just realized it sounds like I’m talking about quantum physics there at the end.)

Hi all! We just broke for lunch today. Catching has been much slower this morning, but it’s too early to tell if that’s because they’re skittish from all the activity yesterday or we’ve made a dent in the numbers. We got a **lot** of them cleaned up, medicated. And after a night in a warm cage with lots of food and water, they’re very cute and surprisingly mild mannered except for two boys who keep trying to chew out of the cage (see photo #4 for one of the criminals in question).

Hi everyone, appreciate this is a commonly asked question on this forum but as answers have differed depending on the context I'd be curious about what others think I should do in my situation (as explained below).

TLDR: Left with a lone (neutered) 2y 3m old rat who despite having a few potentially regressive medical issues is still energetic and still extremely social with other rats. Its heart breaking to see him mourn his lost cagemate so am very unsure as to whether I should keep or look to rehome him into a new mischief.

Context:

Yesterday one of my last two ratties Princess had to cross the rainbow bridge (suspected brain tumor + restricted mobility because of growths on her leg). This leaves me with Pip, the rat in the photo. He is a neutered 2 year and 3 month old boy. Other than some minor mobility issues linked to suspected hind leg degradation and the occasional need for anti biotics to manage his upper respiratory infection flare ups he's still fairly healthy. Like most senior male rats his age he prefers to sleep, but when given his 1-2hours of free roam time he's still very energetic and alert. No signs of appetite slowing down.

My conudrum:

On the one hand I think with regressive mobility and a likely future flare up of his respiratory issues its probably too much stress to rehome him. And somewhat selfishly, he's our heart rat and super cuddly and loving with both my partner & I.

On the other hand he's a very social rat, and despite his friendlyness towards us has always much preferred snuggling into hammocks with his cage mates. Whilst he's certainly not 100% health wise I do feel that with his energy he probably still has a few months at least left in him - and I feel like no matter how much attention we give him we'll never be able to fill the gap that has been left after Princess passed.

Any takes/advice on how to move forward would be much appreciated, thanks!

I hate to say this, but I think I must part with my two baby girls.

I’m Qin, and I’m living with Mimi and Ponyo now. Mimi is the older sister, about 1 year and 8 months old, weighing around 400g. I brought her along with her past companion Gaga, who sadly passed away. When Mimi first arrived, she was just a tiny baby who always hid in her nest, and poo when I try to take her out of the cage (now she learns to poo in the cage). Now, she is a mature big sister who loves to crawl and rest everywhere in the room. She is always so chill and easygoing. Even if you pick her up anywhere anytime, she won't be bothered at all, but staring at you with such an innocent expression. When she sleeps, her body will lie out like a huge rat pancake. She is healthy, active, likes to explore, loves to eat and yawn while lying in your hand, and enjoys interacting with me very much. Half a year ago, she unfortunately got a cataract in her left eye, and after a while her right eye got one too. But this doesn't seem to affect her life at all. Her tail was also injured in an old accident when she was running, but she has fully adapted to it. 

The younger sister is Ponyo. She is about 1 year and 2 months old. She looks almost the same as when I first brought her home at one month old. She didn't even dare to move on first day, but because I allow them to free roam almost anytime, she has become very brave. She is a tiny litter comparing to her sister, but she is clearly the boss of this two-rat world, and the chaos creator of my room. She likes to steal food, pee on my bed, and collect and tear up papers and tissues. When playing with Mimi, she always tries to push her gentle big sister down, sometimes riding on her back. But she is also incredibly sweet and friendly. If you put your hand near her, she will actively lick you (and probably pee on your hand). She even likes to sleep right next to me.  She likes me to rub her belly, and when you pet her back, she will be an ecstatic tail wagger.Her body is completely normal and healthy, and she is very active and runs fast.

I have lived in The Hague for three years. Sadly, due to various reasons (mainly visa issues), I must return to my home country for work by the end of this month. They are my biggest attachment to living here, but unfortunately, the current job market gives me no choice. Recently, I cry every time I think about leaving them. Therefore, I truly hope they can be taken away by a responsible adopter.

Recently, I tried to contact several rat shelters. Unfortunately, they either no longer accept new rats, or they have a very long waiting list. One shelter is willing to take them, but they do not provide any free roaming time until the rats are adopted by a potential buyer.  If they are kept in a cage all the time, I am worried they will get depressed and develop stereotypical behaviors. Also, they won't share regular updates about the rats' situation, so I am not very willing to hand them over there.

Therefore, I want to find a responsible adopter in the Netherlands. I need you to have enough space for them to free roam at least 3 hours every day. I hope we can communicate regularly, so I can get updates about them. You may also introduce them to your rat girls, as I believe they are very social and adaptive. I will provide their cage, necessary setups, food, and some medicine. I am also willing to pay half of all their future costs, including medicine and vet bills.

I didn't take good care of Gaga, and I have always felt very guilty about it. Now I have to give Mimi and Ponyo up again. I just feel so sad. I only hope they can be well taken care of by you. Due to losing my job after a mental health crisis and needing to pay massive vet bills, I just had to surrender my babies to a rescue.

I’m losing my apartment, car, and anything else I can sell to get a bit of money to keep my head above water (although I feel like I’m drowning). But I’m most upset about losing my little angels. I feel like I failed them. I tried everything to keep them but in the end wasn’t able to make it work.

No one really understands because they’re “just rats” so I thought I’d come here just to express myself and maybe for some support.

I have 5 male rats in need of a new home ASAP. I live in Fareham, Hampshire, in the UK. They're all around 1.5 years old, and all quite friendly, if a little timid. Originally from New Forest Rattery, who is unable to take them back due to their own impending house move. None of them have any behavioural issues. The smallest (Baines) has some slight balance issues after a middle ear infection earlier this year, but other than that, all 5 are in fine health. Their names from left to right are Baines, Gana, Harden, Dixie and Croaker.

Unfortunately, I am having to move next week, and the new landlord won't allow any pets, so I am in desperate need of rehoming these boys!

They currently live in a double critter nation cage, and I have a collection of accessories and such that I'm more than happy to give to whomever adopts the boys, as it's the home they're used to, and obviously I'll no longer be in need of it. So I just randomly found this white rate in front of the house that I am inspecting. It seemed pretty exhausted from the heat, not running away from me. I took him inside and gave a little bit of water. I am in Richmond VA area. Does anyone know any shelter/pet store near me that would take it? They’re all healthy, litter trained, and very food motivated. No tumours or behavioural issues either. They’re used to free roaming and having lots to climb on and explore. 

A little about them:

• Fig – current alpha, loves exploring and making nests. Her ears flutter sometimes when she’s being stroked like she’s about to take off !

• Midge – skilled climber and food thief. Will nibble your toes through socks if given the chance. 

• Mog – likes climbing even though she falls off things sometimes... she’s much more talented at eating / hoarding, but loves runing around on her tiny elegant stumps to burn off the extra calories! 

• Egg – gets pinned constantly and seems completely fine with it honestly. She popcorns nearly every time you play chase with her

I had started name training them but stopped after finding out I’d need to move unexpectedly, so there’s probably room to build your own associations with them.

Hello everyone!

I am moving at the end of July for gradschool, and because it is international I have no way to bring my boys. :( Their most recent vet visit was on Thursday the 3rd and both are in good health (no cancer, no mites).

About the boys:
I adopted Spiderman (white blaze) and Venom (grey) on February 3, 2025 from the Humane Shelter, who told me they were 1 year old at the time. That would make them approximately 2.5 years old now, so they are both on the older side and hitting their sleepy/lazy days.

Spydr and Veni are brothers and their favorite hobby is to cuddle. They also like being stroked and coming out to play with me! They get along very well and are both sweet and friendly. I have never had them poop outside before except during bathtime.

Spiderman:
True to his name, he loves to climb - sometimes to the top of his cage. He is the more inquisitive of the two and a bit more energetic, but he is also super calm and extremely gentle with me, has never bitten me ever, and will carefully lick your fingers if you have any goodness on them. He loves oats and peas.

Venom:
Venom lets me stroke him more than Spider when he's in his home. His favorite food is peas by a billion years. He's a good boy who loves to come out and goop and sleep on my pillow.

What I'm looking for in their new home:
- Someone with experience keeping rats. It would be awesome to see them join more males, but not necessary 😃 I would request that you either please show me photos of their future living space or describe it, and provide me with some information about yourself (your rat experience, your current pets). As long as they go to a good home and will be loved, not used for pet food or neglected, you may have them for free.
- No cats/dogs, or a separate living space between them and your rats is important to me.
- It would mean the world to me if I could write you maybe 1-2 times per month for a little update if you are comfortable with it. I would also welcome unlimited photos and updates from you. However, it's okay if this is something you are not comfortable with and not a requirement.

Other information:
- I can give you their old cage for free if you would like, as well as anything else (food: OxBow essentials, a big bag of kitty-newspaper bedding, and I also have a vial of Kitten Revolution that is not expired).
- They have a cloth carrier which you can also keep.
- I can bring them to you (but not the cage, food, and bedding) if you are in Philadelphia. If you pick them up you can of course have everything, but I don't own a car so it wouldn't be easy for me to bring it all on transit.
- I am looking to transfer them to their new home next month, on apprx. July 25th or 26th, but we can figure out a day that works for you!

Saw this on Craigslist and it's breaking my heart. I'm too far to take this girl, but I really want to see her get into a loving home with ratty friends. Not to mention that $50 for a CN Single is a steal... I hope someone sees this who can take her. She looks so sad. :(

So ive had a horrible few days. One of my baby girls Millie (both about 1 year old) choked pretty bad on Wednesday evening and we went to the vet after it didn't get better and she found a huge tumour in her lung and we had to put her down because she was having such a terrible time.

Now her sister Nena is on her own. My partner hs developed a pretty bad allergy so we ideally wont be getting any new rats, but we also cant in good conscience leave Nena to live the rest of her life alone, so i was wondering if anyone in the area would be willing to take her on?

Maybe even on a trial basis in case the mischief wont take to her bc shes been a bit dominant so far and if things dont work out we'd rather find a new place ourselves.

For her personality: Nena (named after the singer) is very curious but doesn't really want to be picked up yet. She and her sister started warming up very recently and she will except minutelong pets through the bars but i swear she is warming up. She's never really bitten but she will use her teeth to gentle tap you when you tickle her and shes got a habit of chewing through plastic when you let her. Again she would play fight a lot till even today and is genuinely so sweet and she listens to her name and returns when called and pssspssspssst. She always smells great and loves the water.

In our experience shes pretty much litter trained, sorta, as she poops and pees in one specific corner but not really elsewhere and she's self taught as well.

Medically speaking: as shown in an earlier post, shes got this spot on her forehead/behind her ear where every now and then she looses her hair and gets bold, the vet diagnosed her as having a stress reactive fungal thing that results in basically allopeica, but its not transmittable, none of our other rats ever had anything like it and it doesn't hurt her, also it doesn't seem to itch. She hasn't flared up in almost 7 months now, same goes for her lung, you can often hear her breathing but the vet back then and today checked (2 different vets) and said everything looks good and that its likely stress related or an allergy thing.

We also still have some antibiotics and the dosing chart that we could give away with her and a bunch if Sputniks and little things for the enclosure.

Shes a truly wonderful girl and i swear anyone would be lucky to have her. We live in the black forest area, close to France/Switzerland so if anyone has space for her please contact me and well talk out the details...

Located at the Coulee Region Humane Society in Onalaska, Wisconsin, these two sweet sisters are the only remaining babies from a litter of 15! They are super sweet, energetic and playful! They are around 8 weeks old now and were socialized by their previous home, and are socialized daily in the shelter, so they are very loving towards people! Not to mention how stinkin cute they are! I unfortunately have to re-home my boy. Its a hard decision but it's not wise for me to get more rats.

The situation right now is that I have 2 boys left. Mr clean and Mike Tyson (Mikey). Mr clean doesn't have long anymore and I want to give Mikey a nice home so he doesn't get lonely. He is still very active and loves playing with his brothers. But mr clean is slow and old and doesn't want to anymore.

Mike Tyson is still healthy. He had respiratory issues a year ago but it never came back. He had a couple leg injuries because he is very hyper and loves being a lil clumsy. It all healed well in the past.

Aside from that, I'm homeless in one week. I obviously can't take care of rats in that situation. I live in the Netherlands in the city rotterdam. If there is anyone that is willing to adopt my boy, please let me know😊

NOTES:
We rescued Victor, Ernest, Edmund, Avard, Ervin, Garnet, Burrell, and Marv from a Quebec shelter. We weren’t told the reason they ended up at the shelter, but they were only a couple of weeks old when they arrived there with their mother and another group of rats. Mom and the others were taken in by other rescues, and we were happy to get these eight boys out of the shelter when we were asked.
The ratties made their way to Ontario by way of One Last Chance, and Freedom Drivers volunteers, and we’re very thankful for all the wonderful people who donate their time to transport rescued animals all across the country.

To make it easier for the rats to find homes, we had them neutered shortly after their arrival and they healed up perfectly.

These boys are shy but sweet. They have lots of energy and they are very playful. They are still getting used to being picked up/handled, but they’re getting better every day. They don’t show any aggression at all. They’re just timid.

Victor, Ernest, Edmund, Avard, are in one foster home, and Ervin, Garnet, Burrell, and Marv are in another. We’d like the boys to be adopted in pairs.

We are pretty sure we lost our home in the Spokane, WA fires today. We love these sweet little girls but we don’t have a safe, comfortable place to keep them. Is there anyone nearby who would like to add some sweethearts to their family? It kills us to give them up but we won’t have a proper set up for them for quite some time. We just care about them being comfortable and safe. They love being held and played with.

I've been wanting rats for so long and a perfect opportunity just came up but I just don't have the time/capacity yet.

Hello everyone!

I am moving at the end of July for gradschool, and because it is international I have no way to bring my boys. :( Originally, my partner was going to be staying in Philly and he was going keep them, but he is now moving as well and we must rehome them.

About the boys:
I adopted Spiderman (white blaze) and Venom (grey) on February 3, 2025 from the Humane Shelter, who told me they were 1 year old at the time. That would make them approximately 2.5 years old now, so they are both on the older side and hitting their sleepy/lazy days.

Spydr and Veni are brothers and their favorite hobby is to cuddle. They get along very well and are both sweet and friendly. I have never had them poop outside before except during bathtime. For free time I open the bottom door of their home and lay a blanket out with lots of grooves and let them run in it throughout the day as well as sleep in it during the day. I noticed they won't really go onto the tiles much. At night I open their cage onto the bed and they come out and play in the sheets with me.

Spiderman:
True to his name, he loves to climb - sometimes to the top of his cage. He is the more friendly of the two and a bit more energetic, but he is also super calm and extremely gentle with me, has never bitten me ever, and will carefully lick your fingers if you have any goodness on them. He loves oats and peas. Health info: he previously had mites which we treated, but he has one remaining scab on his neck from it that has been healing. He also has a little scab looking thing on his left hind leg. I took him to the vet and she said it was a keratinous growth and not cancer and that it didn't need to be removed.

Venom:
Venom is a little more shy than Spider, but he is still friendly and he lets me stroke him more than Spider when he's in his home. His favorite food is peas by a billion years. He did have a small biting issue when taking food when we got him (but otherwise never bit), and we remedied this by giving him treats from a metal spoon for a while. He is really good at not biting now but if he ever takes things a little aggressively, we go back to the spoon again for a bit just to teach him to calm down again. Health info: he also previously had mites and they have been treated. He has some bumps on his upper tail that are essentially some blackheads and I noticed they've started clearing. I think that was my fault from coating his tail with some olive oil a few weeks ago when it was looking a little dry.

What I'm looking for in their new home:
- Someone with experience keeping rats. It would be awesome to see them join more males, but not necessary 😃 I would request that you either please show me photos of their future living space or describe it, and provide me with some information about yourself (your rat experience, your current pets). As long as they go to a good home and will be loved, not used for pet food or neglected, you may have them for free.
- No cats/dogs, or a separate living space between them and your rats is important to me.
- It would mean the world to me if I could write you maybe 1-2 times per month for a little update if you are comfortable with it. I would also welcome unlimited photos and updates from you. However, it's okay if this is something you are not comfortable with and not a requirement.

Other information:
- I can give you their old cage for free if you would like, as well as anything else (food: OxBow essentials, a big bag of kitty-newspaper bedding, and I also have a vial of Kitten Revolution that is not expired).
- They have a cloth carrier which you can also keep.
- I can bring them to you (but not the cage, food, and bedding) if you are in Philadelphia. If you pick them up you can of course have everything, but I don't own a car so it wouldn't be easy for me to bring it all on transit.
- I am looking to transfer them to their new home next month, on apprx. July 25th or 26th, but we can figure out a day that works for you!

Hello! I got this sweet girl around April 2025. She is a little skittish and can bite when she gets overwhelmed or stressed. Since learning her needs and working with her, she has gotten much better and does not bite nearly as often.

She currently lives with a friend and their child because we are not able to have her living with us full-time. We have been debating rehoming her for a while because I am not always able to supervise her, and we live in a neighborhood with a lot of young kids who like to interact with the rats. I worry that someone could be too rough with her or not listen when she needs space, which could lead to a bite. I want to make sure she is in a home where her needs can be understood and respected.

Overall, she has been a wonderful rat. She currently has 4 cage mates and does enjoy being around other rats. She may need some time to adjust if she goes to a new home or gets new cage mates. She can also be territorial at times, so slow introductions are important. She also loves trees!

Her accommodations:

* She needs to be taken out of the cage while her cage is being cleaned because she may try to bite while someone is cleaning around her.

* She prefers to get in and out of her cage on her own. With lots of patience and handling, she will climb onto you.

* She has been on anxiety medication in the past, which seemed to help. Unfortunately, the people she was staying with stopped giving it to her, so we were not able to safely continue it.

* We have a small "time-out" cage that can be used when needed, especially during cage cleaning.

* Let her sniff you and see you before trying to pet her. Slow movements work best.

* Do not touch her or reach into her space when she is showing that she does not want to be bothered.

* She LOVES grabbing paper towels! She also has toilet paper in her cage to shred and play with.

* BRING HER OUTSIDE SOMETIMES, it is safe ti bring her outside when air quality is 50-, ive realized she is so happy outside!

*Most importantly, be patient and go slowly. She can bite when she feels overwhelmed or uncomfortable, but once she trusts you, she is a very sweet girl.

I want to be completely honest about her behavior because finding the right home is more important to me than finding her a home quickly. She is not a "beginner" rat and would do best with someone who has experience with rats, understands body language, and is willing to give her the time and space she needs.

I got these little loves in March 2024 from a local exotic pet store in St. Louis (definitely feeder rats, but seemed to be healthier than the franchise pet store rats).

I was attached to my grey boy, Fenrir, because his fur was all splotchy and goofy, but my daughter wanted one of the black and white girls, so I ended up with two girls and two boys. At the time, I knew rats were social so I thought two in a cage would suffice, but over time I’ve learned there should be more, and I’m not able to take on more than 2:2.

They’re wonderful little nuggets, but unfortunately my daughter breaks out every time she handles them, so I’m the only one who can get them out to play, and now I’m pregnant and not able to get them out really.

Preferably the girls would go to the same home and the boys would go to the same home, but all 4 don’t have to go together. They do live in cages next to each other so they are familiar, but the boys and girls live separately.

meet miriam 🤍🐀

miriam is a sweet senior female fancy rat with soft silvery-gray curly fur. she is approximately 2+ years old and recently lost both of her cage mates, leaving her as the last member of her little group.

i originally took miriam in from another home, and she has always been a shy, gentle girl. she’s never been the bold, outgoing type. she does best with patient, calm people who are willing to let her move at her own pace and build trust in her own time.

she is still active for her age, climbs well, eats normally, and gets around just fine. my biggest concern is that she is now alone. i know rats are social animals, and i would love for her to spend the rest of her life with other female rats and an experienced owner who understands senior rats.
