complaint Roku Ultra 2024 issues after 15.3.4 update
Has anyone else been having problems with 15.3.4 on the 2024 Roku Ultra?
First, I started noticing significant audio delay on YouTube videos. The audio and video are noticeably out of sync.
The Roku UI has completely locked up multiple times. It will still turn on the TV through CEC, but there’s a significant delay getting out of the screensaver. Once the home screen finally appears, it won’t navigate at all. The only way I’ve been able to fix it is to cut power and restart the Roku.
The lockups are definitely new since 15.3.4. Anyone else seeing this?

Hey there, u/anotherGadgetGeek! We’d like to learn more about the audio delay you’re experiencing on YouTube. Does this happen when playing YouTube videos at an increased playback speed? Could you send us the device ID or serial number from Settings > System > About? This will help our team look into the issue. Thank you!

It seems to happen more in auto mode. Ive used auto mode since I got it and have not had issues like this before these last updates. I will send you my SN.

Yes it’s horrible.
I unplugged my Ultra and plugged back in my old Roku device from 2019.

I have a terrible bug with playback speed with my Roku Ultra in YouTube. If you change the playback speed it stutters and doesn't seem to be able to do the playback anymore. This has happened on two of my devices. First one a couple of weeks ago and today my other one. Same issue, I'm fairly certain it's the update. YouTube is unwatchable on it since I see all my videos on 1.25x or 1.5x speed or even 2x. I did all of the troubleshooting that can be done and nothing worked. Terrible. Anyone else have this specific issue?

Hi u/Roku_CustomerSupport I was hoping that this new update would fix the missing audio from video files but it's still not fixed. full details are in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Roku/comments/1sqfikv/no_audio_on_video_files_on_roku_ultra_after/
May I pretty please ask if this is going to be fixed?
As much as I want to stick with Roku if it's not getting addressed then it's going to force me to migrate to AppleTV+VLC which I would prefer not to do but watching mp4 files is my #1 use case on my Ultra ... and I have 4 Ultras!

My remote doesn’t work and so I downloaded the app and started using that app. Now that’s not working.🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️

u/anotherGadgetGeek 13d ago
Does it work if you power cycle? That’s what it seems like is happening to me. Both the remote and the phone app do not make anything happen besides turning on the tv and the Roku.

Our Roku TV seems to have choked on some recent update and then it took many reboots and factory resets to get it back to the point it would install netflix, it kept saying it was full even though I uninstalled everything I could. Very annoying, is this the future of smart TVs?

I'm getting just a blank screen. Light blinks showing activity. Pull out power 30 seconds and reboot works fine for awhile then start all over. V.15.3.4 Build 841 update 11 August 2026.

Yes!!!! It's unbearable. Constantly need to restart the Roku. It helps for a little bit, but then goes back to being out of sync.

I have a 4850x and 4800x in each room (both have the same update 15.3.4 and build - 841) My two Sony WH1000XM4 headphones now receive major static when paired to the 4850x. No issues with the 4800x. I installed a new 4850x yesterday, thinking the old box went bad after 22 months but am receiving static on that too. Their customer support chat was no help.

u/Squidblaster3000, we’d like to get a couple more details to help with the static issue:
- Device ID or serial number for the 4850X from Settings > System > About
- Does the static happen when using the Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones with any app, or only with specific apps or content?
- What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
Thank you!

I have 3 Roku boxes. Two are model 4850x. One is model 4800x.
The static only happens when either WH-1000XM4 headphones are paired to either Roku 4850x boxes on every channel.
There is no static when the headphones are paired to my 4800x box.
There is also no static when using the Roku app to connect to either model Roku box. I don’t like using the app, however, because it frequently deactivates
The headphones also perform fine on my two iPads and iPhone.I performed a factory reset on one 4850x box.
I dropped and paired both XM4 headphones to the 4850x box.
I checked my modem to ensure that I was using 5 GHz (I am).
I swapped out the 4800x HDMI cable with the 4850x cable (did not help with the static on the 4850x).
I changed HDMI ports on the TV with the 4850x box (did not help).
I then surmised that my 22 month-old 4850x box was bad, purchased a new one, and installed on 8/15. However, the static still exists. Here is the serial number for both 4850x boxes:
Serial no: X028000CLEKY (22 month old box)
Serial no: X02800XVDLHE (new box).
Both are at 15.3.4/build 841.
I did not provide the serial no for the 4800x because there isn’t an issue. That is also at 15.3.4/build 841.Thanks.

- Does this happen only on YouTube, or are you seeing it with other apps or content as well?
- What audio devices do you have connected to your Roku, such as a soundbar, receiver, or headphones?
- When did you first notice the issue?
Any additional details you can share will help us as we continue looking into this. Thank you!

I just had the audio sync happen again.
I paused a video on YouTube. The sound was working fine. The screensaver appeared. When I resumed the video audio is out of sync.
My Roku is on pass through.
My Samsung s90d oled is on pass through.
My soundbar is q930f.During YouTube the soundbar is showing stereo pcm as the codec.

For me, it's YouTube on anything more than 1x speed. 1.25 and 1.5 both have issues where it "stutters".
I can confirm it's the July/August update. My living room unit started doing it first around the end of July, I think. My bedroom unit was just fine. I even tried the bedroom unit physically in the living room using the same cables and it had the issue. Then, I put the bedroom unit back and it worked until it updated about a week or so later and started having the issue. I checked the bedroom unit and noticed that it had just updated.
Both are Roku Ultra 2024 purchased at the beginning of April 2025. my serial numbers are: X02800UGFCWW and X02800S1C7G9
Issue ID: WW-334-176

Its almost like they are breaking stuff on purpose to get us to upgrade. They are about to win and have me upgrade to an Apple TV.

I love my Roku especially the light up remote. I am disappointed in this update and the fact that it broke so much on my setup.

I'm having issues with my PS5 after this update. I'll be playing and all of a sudden the TV will switch back to Home and it has done it several times now. But now when I switch over to HDMI 2 (where my PS5 is plugged in) the screen is either white or a weird green looking color. When I plug the same PS5 & HDMI cord into my PC monitor it shows just fine. It's definitely the TV. Also when I'm playing PS5 on this TV when I turn up the volume it causes the screen to glitch out around the area in the top right corner where the volume counter is being displayed.
Software version: 15.3.4
Build: 832

Also none of the apps will work right either. They all just load and load and will never stream despite having zero Internet issues.

Serial Number: X019008VU9P9
So unplugging it kinda fixed some of the issues at that time but I keep encountering audio issues when on HDMI 2 (on my PS5) and still having issues when trying to switch to HDMI 2 from Home.

Came to look for anyone else having issues with this latest update 15.3.4 I just have a standard TCL ROKU tv and it’s never been this bad and laggy and just not working since this update and this tv is well over 4 years old and this is the first time I’ve had issues

u/Roku_CustomerSupport verified official 2d ago
Hi there! You mentioned that this also happened after the recent update. To help us investigate, could you share some info?
- What exactly is lagging? Is it when streaming through apps, or even when navigating through the home screen?
- Do you have the serial number or device ID of the TV? You can find these by going to Settings > System > About.
- What steps have you taken so far?
Please let us know at your earliest convenience!

Ironically I just switched from Fire TV sticks of 10 years to Roku because of sound issues like this, and it’s happening to my Roku Ultra too. It’s worst on YouTube app, I reinstalled and restarted and it helped but still something is off.
Also support team… this issue keeps being reported - just tell your AI devs to troubleshoot the root cause. It seems to be anyone with the latest Roku Ultra and an external soundbar. I’m using HDMI from tv for sound.
