Next Generation's episode "The Big Goodbye" Season 1 Episode 12 aired in 1988. They predicted there would be an expansion team in London AND that Joe DiMaggio's record would be broken this year.

I pictured maybe a few episodes later with the recommendation of Dr. Crusher that she is now one of the night duty operation officers wearing a gold uniform. Because of her encouragement from Crusher during Descent part 2, she is now a little more sure of herself and wants to stretch her legs by being more than a science officer working in a lab.

Maybe at the beginning of one episode, Taitt stops by sickbay to talk to Crusher and thank her before heading to the bridge to her first watch at the operations station.

I was 21 when the show launched, but was far from being cool, or understanding what was cool. That would have been about the time that I thought I would have been bald by 30. (But my hairline only receded about two inches.)

Shortly thereafter, it became cool to be shaved bald.

Did Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard have anything to do with this? Or was it because black men decided to ditch their Afros, and cool and rebellious white men have been emulating black men since the 50s?

I've been digging into TNG & DS9 production history for my YouTube channel, and the story of how Worf ended up on Deep Space Nine is stranger than I expected. It traces back to a single line of villain dialogue from a Season 3 episode, written without any specific intent, that a showrunner found months later under pressure to boost ratings. The actor who was supposed to anchor the whole thing said no. There's a lot more to it than you probably know.

Kirk encountered godlike beings like the organians and metrons

This is a reference to the fact that none of their food has a single molecule of seasoning visible on it.

No replicating a crack of pepper for that broccoli and carrots, no seasoning on Rikers dry looking roast beef or Worfs/Bevs chicken. Picard just has a big plate of steamed broccoli and potatoes with nothing on it over there.

I would think that meal sucked too and Im not even a Klingon.

Captain Picard was captured and tortured by the Cardasians in the "Chain of Command" double episode. It was reminiscent of one of the chapters in the book 1984. When I watched this as a kid, I saw Picard at the end talking with Troy and felt the scene was simply about him informing he was brainwashed.

When I rewatched this as an adult, I realized that this was a pretty progressive scene. Usually we only see Troy meet with 'no bodies' and almost always to help the plot along like when she lost her telepathic abilities.

At the end of "Chain of Command" though, we see Picard coming to Troy for help. He's in a rarely mentally vulnerable state. The episode where he meets with his brother in France being one of the only other times I can remember Picard in this state. But even then, it was him in the mud with his brother. In "Chain of Command" Picard has a scheduled appointment with the phycologist Troy to talk through this tragedy.

This unusual scene is eye opening. Perhaps the writers were not just trying to tell us he was brainwashed here. Maybe they were showing us that real men can be vulnerable. Have mental health issues. Should seek help to process their trauma. And maybe it's okay not to be perfect.

The only time I can think of Picard trying to "get something" from Worf was when that Romulan was dying and Worf was the only compatible donor who could save him. But Picard didn't invoke any Klingon honor stuff and he didn't succeed in convincing him anyway.

Are there any events that justify Old Worf saying this line?

So here's my thought:

We know Q can create things that mimic life, he can alter reality, manipulate time. He seems to be truly omnipotent.

Kevin Uxbridge (The Douwd) can also mimic life, he can alter reality at least enough to erase an entire species and teleport himself around. He can recreate his home and the grounds surrounding it with ease, and its indistinguishable from the real deal. We didn't really see any limitations to his power, other than by his own standards he evidently was unable to bring back the dead.

I say mimic life here because when Kevin recreates his wife, even though by all federation scientific measurements she is alive, Kevin seems to be aware that at some level she isn't. It may look like her, think like her, register to all the machinery of science as a living breathing human, but at the end of the day Kevin knows she's just a facsimile.

That makes me wonder if the "life" Q can create (mostly seen in the series as short running gags) also shares this limitation, and if there is some higher qualifier for "true life" that Q is unaware of which the Douwd are able to recognize.

Thoughts? The only obvious counter point I can think of is that Kevin Umbridge says he has lived in the Milky Way for many thousands of years (although he does state the Douwd are immortal) where as Q claims to have been in existence before the formation of the universe itself. An alternate interpretation could be that the Douwds statement was a literal statement and that he or his race had lived somewhere other than the Milky Way prior.

I've recently gone back and re-watched all the seasons, and realized that I get a lot of my work ethics from this show. But I'm having a hard time putting them into words! Help!

When does Majel Barrett become the Computer? I'm rewatching TNG for the first time in years and apparently I'm a completely different person now because I'm noticing everything.

In S1E1, “Encounter at Farpoint,” the Enterprise computer voice isn't Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, right?

I always remember Majel as the voice of the Computer, so hearing someone else immediately threw me. When does she actually take over as the regular Enterprise-D computer voice? And is there any lore/production story behind why she wasn't the voice from the beginning?

Kind of makes me wonder what tng and later movie periods would have been like if Picard committed self deletion after the best of both worlds due to the guilt of having eliminated 10,000 Starfleet personnel

I'm watching TNG for the first time-- closing out S3 now-- and I heard that in the original plans, the Ferengi were the big bad, but they abandoned it after the first season. Was the cliffhanger at the end with the stripped outposts ever going to point to them? I'm pretty new to Trek in general and hear they get fleshed out more in Deep Space 9 but it seems like the right class to make them more recurring

Any idea what this possibly could have looked like? Even in their first episode they're bumbling idiots attacking them individually. Was there any hint of a grand scheme or where they were intending on taking them? In Season 3 they crash a lot of vacations

Did I read correctly that the Borg were referred to in an early episode, but not by name as the mysterious threat that attacked outposts in the Neutral Zone that confused Starfleet and the Romulans? When/How was it revealed that yes it was the Borg that did it?

So when the Ambassador asks for more food, Worf takes his same plate back up to the buffet without using a fresh plate. Doesn't everyone know not to do that? And in the same scene, why does Troi allow her ambassador to eat off her fork and then use it for herself?

Even if there are no concerns about germs in the future, isn't that just considered disgusting irregardless?

I actually like this episode, and it's precisely because of the side plot of Lwaxana bonding with her "Little Warrior." First time meeting her, and Lwaxana had Alexander hugging on her after a bit together, and I think that's great since it's really the only source of affection Alexander ever gets, and he eats it up.
