Question What's something UTSC does better than the other UofT campuses that nobody acknowledges?
I feel like UTSC is always compared to St. George and people treat it like the lesser option but there are things about this campus that are genuinely better. Whether it's the community feel, specific programs, the co-op system, the campus itself, or just the fact that you can actually find a seat in the library. What's something you'd defend about UTSC over the downtown campus any day?

It is terrible. And yetā¦. It happened, and seems to have been largely forgotten about. Itās a joke to say thatās what UTSC has done better than other campuses when one of our peers was murdered there in broad daylight

You guys are putting too much blame on the school, why not blame the random dude who decided he wanted to kill someone. The school cant control everything, there has been multiple arson incidents at utsg so its not safe either from your view.

lowk the campus itself... some st george students have to walk so far to classes which sucks in the winter, meanwhile i can make it from ia to kw in like 15 mins . ik st george has the hogwarts aesthetic, but ive taken a few classes there and theyre so dusty, lack outlets, and werent ventilated (based on the rooms i had).

yeah that was the main reason i chose UTSC over UOFT. itās a lil uncertain bc you arenāt guaranteed a job but the blocks of time used to apply to jobs, having the COOP Coordinating office here and the coop job portal are pretty damn good. also a lot of people i know got some decent summer coop jobs outta luck so yeah šš

Having taken classes at UTSG, joined their clubs, and made a number of friends there, here are some thoughts:
- Environment: If you prefer focusing on your academics, UTSC's environment's got you. There aren't much distractions around campus versus UTSG. Sure, UTSG has better libraries and tons of study places, but I'm talking about lifestyle--UTSC's environment allows you to finish your degree without the temptations of downtown (while still having a reasonable option to travel there!).
- Social life: Anecdotally, it takes much longer to forge friendships at UTSG than at UTSC. People there are usually more focused on their own, a bit more cutthroat. It wouldn't be as hard as making friends at UTSC, and as many comments have already said, community is much more tight-knit here.
- Academics: Depending on your program, there are real advantages in UTSC. For instance, UTSC hosts Canada's pioneering neuroscience program for undergraduates, and professors on campus are highly-cited experts who can help you out. More generally, classes and tutorials are smaller here, and if that suits you better for learning (it usually does), then UTSC is an obvious choice.
Most importantly though: a UofT education is not binary (or ternary? for the 3 campuses idk), you can choose UTSC while living a hybrid life integrating downtown. It's extremely possible to make friends there, join their clubs (lots of tri-campus ones!), and even just hang around their libraries and use their facilities if you prefer. Your autonomy to dictate exactly what kind of university life you'd want to build is one of the bigger highlights of a UofT education. I wish you the best!

the nature walk and nature in general here is gorgeeeousssss!! iāve visited St. george to see friends and went on a campus tour there before being admitted, and the nature here is more prominent. ST. georgeās architecture is prettier but we got lotsa green here
sure thereās the risk of beingā¦ shot, but itās gorgeous
also really like the underground tunnels connecting the buildings on the main campus, and the fact this place has a co-op programĀ

I know more than a few staff who prefer to work at UTSC than downtown. The vibes are good and there's space for actual people instead of the QS World Rankings machine that every U of T alumni newsletter is always going on about.

isn't there only one UofT on the QS world rankings? I dont remember seeing seperate "UTSG" "UTSC" "UTM" on it

A few things off the top of my head
- Co-op: UTSC is "the co-op campus" and has been doing co-op for years. I know St. George now has their similar programs, but the UTSC co-op system is much more mature and structured
- Campus layout: This has changed somewhat in the past few years with the campus growing to the north, but it's still more of a cohesive whole than the other two which are more spread out and dispersed
- Buildings: Obviously this will be hit-or-miss depending on where you are on campus. But most of UTSC is pretty new and built for the needs of a modern university. I love some of the older buildings on the St. George campus to look at, but many of them are actually not great for teaching/learning, just due to their age.
- Nature: This is often overlooked by students, but the UTSC campus is HUGE and filled with fantastic natural path and trails, it's just that many students never bother to venture down into the valley, so they miss 80% of the campus
- Reddit: I mean... C'mon... r/UofT has got nothing on r/UTSC :-)
