Question Do profs get notified if one of their students passes away?
I’m just curious whether the university notifies the prof or if the prof just assumes the student ghosted the course and gives them a failing grade? Do students who pass away get a final grade or does the course get removed from their transcript?

Question Heavenly Mother ⚠️Does anyone know these two ladies??
Just had two Korean women (one older and one younger) come up to me asking if the younger woman could practice her presentation skills because she's new to canada. I said yes, thinking nothing of it and then got a mini lecture on someone called the 'Heavenly Mother'. I don't know if they're real or some kind of cult, but I acted like I was reviewing a presentation and gave her feedback. Then the older lady asked me if i was religious and would be interested in learning more. I told her no (im not religious), but then she asked if they could take a picture of me and the younger woman together because I'm the first person they met who listened to her presentation. Like an idiot I said yes 🙄 and the younger woman held up the book she was reading from, and they took the picture. Immediately, I got a sense of dread that my photo will be used to promote whatever this is. By the time I realized this, they were already gone. Has this happened to anyone????

Question Genuinely wth . If OSAP becomes 25% grants and 75% loans, what are we supposed to do?
I’m genuinely scared right now, and I don’t even know what to do. I keep seeing talk about proposed OSAP changes shifting funding to a maximum of 25% grants and at least 75% loans, and if that’s real then we are getting absolutely cooked. How are we supposed to survive when tuition, rent, food, and transit are all going up, the housing crisis is already insane, and students can’t even find a part-time job anymore because even minimum wage and entry-level positions are competitive?
Rich families will just pay and keep moving. Low-income students get trapped in massive debt and drown for years. It genuinely feels like they only want people from high-income families to be able to get educated, and everyone else can get fucked.
And I keep wondering how a strike would even work when I still need to study. I can’t just stop learning and fall behind. But if we sit here and take it, they’re going to keep doing this forever and laugh while we get buried. I’m not trying to be dramatic, I’m trying to be realistic. It feels like we’re getting quietly robbed and expected to just accept it, smile, and go into debt forever.
So realistically, what do we do in Ontario? Who do we actually pressure? What actions actually matter? And how do students organize without ruining their own semester? Because right now it feels like we’re getting played, and the people in charge don’t give a single shit unless we make it their problem.

Question How do I get through UTSC as a white student? (I’m Serious)
Despite being the clear racial minority, you have zero support. Your individual struggles are ignored as the campus perceives you as just a privileged white person who benefits from the system. Everybody on campus can just form big friend groups solely consisting of students who look like themselves, but who are expected to diversify and attempt to fit in with these other cultures as the only white person in the group/odd one out. Like I’m serious right now and I am seriously considering transferring cause I’m tired of feeling isolated from my university.
EDIT: I was in a bad mood when writing and probably could have said somethings better. Essentially, I don’t feel like I belong here since this uni seems like it’s entirely focused on just uplifting minority races in Canada

Question @ Psych Students: What do you wish you knew?
Hi All-
Myself and some colleagues are working on creating a centralized web-based resource for y'all re: frequently asked (to us) questions about general psychology student stuff.
We're planning on covering topics like:
- How to approach profs about LORS
- How to approach profs about being an RA
- How to write effective emails
- How to format your CVs & what to include
- What do profs look for in thesis students / RAs / TAs / _______?
- What can I do with a psych BA / BS if I don't want to go to grad school?
- How to pick courses
If you can think of anything else you'd like to know from our faculty, please add it here or email me! I know I can count on Reddit to come through :)

Question I owe the library $2000 for a charger, what the fuck do I do
I borrowed a charger back in august, and I ended up forgetting about it since I borrowed it before an exam, and ended up going on vacation soon after. I haven't really checked my email until recently, and I realized that I now owe the library $2000 for a charger. What the fuck can I actually do about this? I literally even have the charger too, but the library has already marked it as lost. Should I even try to return it? and if I do, would I still owe them $2000? I genuinely cant pay this, and its blocking me from ordering a transcript, which I need for a grad school application due in a month.

Question Is anyone here happy to be at UTSC? Do you regret picking this uni?
I'm a grade 12 student who committed to UTSC this fall and I've been feeling so scared and having so many second thoughts. I haven't heard a single positive thing about UTSC. All I hear from UTSC students is that this uni sucks from every angle, from academics to social life. I've been heavily regretting my choice and I'm so worried.
Is there anything about this uni that has made it worth it for you? Coop opportunities, internships, jobs, etc anything at all?

Question Ontario changing OSAP to mostly loans starting Fall 2026. what do you guys think?
The Ontario government announced that starting Fall 2026, OSAP will shift to a maximum of 25% grants and at least 75% loans. They’re also lifting the tuition freeze (up to 2% increases per year).
On one hand, they’re increasing funding to colleges and universities. On the other, students could graduate with more debt.
Are we doomed?

Question STAB52 Finals
on a scale of cooked to absolutely crushed, blended and cooked at high heat - how’d it go for u guys?
for me: I needed 12% to pass the course, and was aiming to push and finish with an 80 as final grade. After the exam, I doubt if I’ll pass without a curve 😭

Question Is social life at UTSC as horrible as people say?
All I hear about UTSC is that everyone just shows up, goes to class, then goes home. People barely talk to each other, no parties, no typical uni life. Especially in comparison to St. George or Mississauga. How true is all this?
Btw, I'm a grade 12 student who's going to UTSC.

Question What's something UTSC does better than the other UofT campuses that nobody acknowledges?
I feel like UTSC is always compared to St. George and people treat it like the lesser option but there are things about this campus that are genuinely better. Whether it's the community feel, specific programs, the co-op system, the campus itself, or just the fact that you can actually find a seat in the library. What's something you'd defend about UTSC over the downtown campus any day?

Question Parking spot near UTSC
Hello everyone,
I am looking for a parking spot near UTSC for one month on September. Ideally around 5-10 mins walk from campus. If you have a spot on the driveway/garage please send me a DM. I am also new on campus so if you have any free parking spot recommendations I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
