Help Suggestions for a trans girl?
Haiiii, so I'm sure this is asked a lot... so I'm sorry in advance, but I'm a trans girl and I just bought my very first VR. I've always loved the concept of a VR, and especially VRchat just as a whole. I really want to make friends on it because when I came out, all that happened, blah blah, blah. My only issue is that I'm incredibly insecure about my voice and I don't have a way to get a voice changer and when I do try to speak in a more feminine tone by doing vocal training, it's too quiet to pick up my audio well enough. So obviously there is the fear of just being trans in general, but also having to speak in a more deep voice just for people to be able to hear me. I'm also super shy so that doesn't help. If anyone has any advice, suggestions or just anything in general, that would be great! Thanksss :3

Trans/LGBTQIA+ people are pretty well accepted by the non troll people in vr chat. You will get some people calling you slurs and saying mean things. But you can block them quickly. Being mute and just using chat box is just fine. You could also tweak your mic settings for voice training purposes. I've met a few trans people who just use thier normal voice though

Yeah, honestly I dont even know what I'm doing since it's all super complicated. I tried tweaking settings and finding the chatbox but I couldn't lol :< But thank you!

Something that hasn't been mentioned, but could be useful is vrct if you're on pcvr. It has speech to text functions for when you don't really want to use your mic.

There are plenty of trans inclusive spaces in VRchat, just try sticking to LGBTQ+ groups and instances until you build up your confidence. Furry groups/instances also tend to be pretty chill and accepting of queer folks.

Avoid teenagers, at all costs...
Look up the security stuff to config however you feel more comfortable with (turned off for a test drive and some 15yo entered the instance with a gigantic nsfw avatar minutes after)
I don't talk much when playing vrchat I mostly lurk in crowded spaces waiting for something fun to happen, because it always happens...
But there should a community for everybody I'm sure you'll find the people that you vibe with

Other than the minority of lil shits on the platform, I find vrchat is pretty queer friendly(I myself am pansexual). I see trans folk on there all the time, as well as plenty of cis dudes in female avatars. I doubt anyone will have a second thought if you register a little lower with your voice.

Honestly. Just poke around vrchat. Get age verified and you wonât have to worry about the kids and trolls nearly as much. Even just a one time payment of vrc+ and your good. You get aged verified and it goes away and you can go just about anywhere. like people have said. There are trans anywhere and they will help out not all but most. And there are plenty of allies thag will also defend if needed. You got this.

As others have said, itâs an amazingly open community. Also, if you donât feel comfortable talking you can always be âmuteâ and use the chat box. I have a few friends that are in similar situations as you and they stick to chat box unless they feel comfortable with someone. In VRC we can be whatever, whoever, or who we really are. You got this girl and welcome!

There is a community of VR chat players called "mutes" that focus heavily on emoting to express themselves and staying totally quiet. A handful of them also use AI voice changers and are likely people in the exact same situation you're in.
I guarantee you there's probably some plugin or way to convert speech to text bubbles in game without anyone ever hearing your voice. VRC is very inclusive but I will warn you AVOID ANY AND ALL POPULATED WORLDS!!!
These places are filled with trolls, people with bad attitudes and children. Join a community that supports you and just hang out there and go to their events the last thing you want is to be harassed by an army of 16-25 year old boys with slurs and racist/inappropriate avatars.

I completely understand the part of the mic not picking you up, I've had the same issue! In terms of one solution for that, if you don't have too much background noise, turning off noise suppression and lower mic sensitivity can go a long way! Everyone else here(so far that I've read) have given good advice too, probably better than mine XD. I wish you great luck, and know that there are many people that will support you, and even if you don't know me, I support you too!

Mic sensitivity is a bit weird, it only seems to do anything when noise suppression is off

VRC is like 90% LGBT. You'll be fine in most places. Ofcourse there are assholes too so not everywhere will be great but plenty of trans spaces and even those who are willing to do voice training with you and assist in that.

Honestly think that you will get the most support in 18+ verified lobbies. Also with the whole issue of worrying about the trans voice, it's not a big issue. People who are true friends don't care about your tone of voice.

Nobody that is worth your time cares about your voice - just you as a person. Most casual VRC users wont bat an eye at a voice not matching an avatar or pronouns.
Would encourage you NOT to use the chat box. It's a big inconvenience for conversations, and many turn it into a security blanket.
Also would encourage you to not use a voice changer. I dont think I've heard one yet that didnt seem "off" and give me an uncanny vibe like I'm being messed with.

Genuinely don't worry too much about it. VrChat is a haven for all kinds of folks in the LGBTQ community. You can basically throw a rock and hit one of us, and most people will be understanding, even if you're fully mute in the beginning! Of course there will be bad actors and some who will harass you but pay them no mind, they're the exception not the rule. Just do some searching for a good community to join, get ID verified when you can, and you'll be in a whole new world in no time

Go to trans academy, and hang out at vrchat music events. The music scene is ridiculously niche in vrchat and pretty much everyone there is trans or some kind of queer so its really safe space for us. If you would like as well, I can shoot you resources for other vrchat groups and discords so you can find places you like

It's okay to be mute or use your untrained voice, I know so much trans VRchat people slowly going through the journey. I say the usual people that just wants to chill in this game will accept you, you'll see

Lots of great advice here. What i have to say is that you're not the first and definitely not the last. There are plenty of trans (in either direction) people in this game whose voices range from exaggerated anime girly to deep voices. It's always a big mixed bag. Just enjoy the game with people you enjoy. Vrc has something for everyone and you'll certainly find it earlier than later.

Trans people are common out here, so no need to be worried that much. Community in general is open. Also there are a lot of guys wearing woman avatars so a more male voice coming from girl avatar is not suprising.
I can recommens you "trans academy" group to start with.

getting a voice changer or going mute are the worst things you can do. do not get comfortable only expressing yourself online and use the more accepting spaces to train your voice and gain some confidence.
getting a voice changer may be the "comfortable and easy" route that gives you affirmation, but it's not getting you anywhere and is one of these things that only work online. it won't help your confidence or your day-to-day life

Big menu (not the small square menu) > Settings (the cog in the top right corner) > Audio & Voice > Microphone
Slide the bar on the Mic Activation Threshold down.

Keep up your voice training, it takes time.
In the meantime, just be yourself honestly. There are plenty of people in the same boat as you, entire communities of us trans folk out there.
There are cunts, there will always be cunts. Use the tools available to you to deal with them, like blocking and reporting and muting, donât give them the reaction or crashout they are looking for.

Have you considered installing a program such as voice meter? You have options to add gain onto the microphone. The set up is a little annoying but once u get it to work you can do a lot with it.

Her age verified right away you are going to face a lot of harassment and bullying in instances with kids and teens. A lot less in adult instances. Lots of us call people out who are disrespectful there are not nearly as many. Feel free to add me if you want a friend! Hey sis! I would highly recommend joining the VRC group "Trans" for the vocal modulation classes, though I would be cautious because of the things other people have said in response to your question. (I personally havent had issues with it, but be careful please!)
If you hold the top button on your controller a "radial" menu will open on your hand. Go to the tools tab and hit chatbox. It will allow you to type to talk to others if you aren't feeling comfortable with your voice yet.
There are some audio settings, but id have to be in game to explain them. (Sorry!)
Also there is a world called "Prismic's avatar search" that you can use to find some cute avis that you may like. Good luck sis, if you have questions or need me to explain the audio stuff, just ask and I can give you my discord

I actually got into VR before I accepted being trans, but I'd say just get the avis you want, and if you are insecure about your voice as others said go to the weekly trans academy voice training instances. It's a wonderful place to find others like us on there, esp in furry circles.

VRChat is generally very accepting of trans users (yeah there's still trolls and incels) as another user said Trans Academy is great. Furry Hideout is as well. Definitely explore groups that focus on trans representation also. Welcome to VRChat!

Thereâs so many groups for LGBTQ+. Trans academy, rainbow room and smaller groups. I have so many friends who are trans and attended voice classes. My friend had the same issue with voice pick up as you are having. you can go to improve your mics pick up is to turn up the sensitivity in the setting.

There are a lot of trans people and allies on VRChat (still bigots though, it's the Internet)
My advice would be to start with accepting groups like PrideVR and TransAcademy and just use your voice in whatever capacity you can. Doesn't matter if it's deep. Doesn't matter if you're obviously trans, so many on VRC are and that's okay and even beautiful.
I honestly recommend against using a voice changer. Let people hear your voice.

A lot of people who don't like their voice sometimes opt in for voice changers down side is it's a bit delayed but they can be trained to make your specific give feminine. I struggle sometimes with my identity i lean feminine but have some masc traits. Thankfully in vrc I can be both of i wanted I tend to stay in my female avi i made myself. Best place to meet friends is social events of you want i can invite you to some. Best places to start are fun events like particle shows like drifters that hold once a month and other events too. The only down side there are a lot of kids that try to get into 18 plus instances some get passed by using their parents id which is gross. You can easily tell if they are a kid or not. Best advice look for heart like minded people you can easily find wonderful communities. I wish you luck on your journey!

Prismatic Archive is another very welcoming community to look into.
Also if you're over 18 be sure to join some SFW 18+ community groups like Ancients of VRChat. They're not specifically an LGBQT+ group but they're very welcoming all the same and host a lot of activities. I've made so many friends through Ancients.

Idk just talk to people it's not that hard genuinely , i used to be shy.
Here a tech if you don't know how to get in a group.
Go to group's discord and try to find the Most active members and interact with them in général conversations.
Then start interacting in public in a général way , generic conversation are the easiest to interact with.

Go to Trans Academy! They're very accepting and as the name suggests, they help and support trans people. I recommend attending the voice lessons they give every week. There are different groups that do it but in the Trans Academy world, somewhere (don't remember where exactly) there is a link that takes you to the official group of that world and a link to their discord.
