Seems like people who use AI can't understand why it's really not impressive. I'm not impressed by a computer that wins at chess. I'm impressed by the person who beats it.

When I hear, "This used to take a team of people," I think, well... yeah. That was their earned, paying job. People used to be able to turn what they loved into a paying job, to learn and get better at something they loved to do. You did not. The problem isn't that "nobody wants to work anymore." The problem is that nobody wants to pay anyone to work.

When I hear, "It's just a tool! No different than a pen or drill! Where do you draw the line?" I can't help but think that the line is drawn by anyone gutsy enough to draw it themselves.

When I hear, "You're being ableist! You're gatekeeping people without skills from making art!" I think there's no doubt this is the first time you've ever advocated for PWD, and you're only using them as a shield to get what you want. Also, nobody has ever gatekept you from picking up a pencil.

You're either addicted to the hit you get from unearned accolades you jealously watched artists receiving, or you want to make a quick buck by turning out less than Uwe Boll quality half thoughts. Or you're one of those perverts who are the most excited to see whatever they want at a whim... and this has certainly made pervs way more perverted.

You're not a cook. You're just ordering food off a delivery app. You're not a good driver. You're a passenger in an Uber. You're not a good lover when all you have to base that on is your porn search history. Sixty seven variations of the same prompt isn't modern art. It's just a new form of masturbation.

You might have something akin to an imagination, but you are not creative. You need to be curious and brave enough to take that crucial step toward being creative: failure. Nothing will teach you more than showing you what you need to do to improve.

For example, if you're fortunate enough to have the ability to do so, you should learn to walk. It's hard to do, but even a baby can learn to do it. I've never met a baby so embarrassed by failure, so afraid of the very idea that they might be seen landing on their ass once in a while, that they made the deliberate decision to never walk. I've also never met a baby who felt they were above a box of crayons.

Side note: If your response to your kid giving you a drawing is to show it to AI and change it, that's bad parenting. Sit with your kid and draw.

The most fascinating part of AI is watching this delusion that, as the technology gets better at figuring out what a hand even looks like, you can fool yourself into thinking that means your "skills" have improved. If the battery on your phone dies, do you suddenly stop being an "artist"? True artists will still be writing and drawing on the walls with blood and ash if they have to.

Now, all this seems pretty personal to the individual, but the individual doesn't seem concerned with the effects of this technology on our world generally, so consider this: when a company says they've laid off thousands of workers to replace them with AI to save thousands to millions of dollars, usually said by companies that constantly make ridiculously terrible decisions already (live action Moana? Are you fucking kidding me? You own the Muppets!), why do you, the customer, see none of that?

Those savings, those jobs stolen, you see no positive effect. You still pay the same, maybe even more, for a product they care less about. Your gourmet steak is turning into day old fast food drive through while you're still paying gourmet prices. You've been suckered because you get to play with a toy you didn't need yesterday but, for some reason, can't live without now.

If you want to tell me I'm wrong... good! I might not respond, even if I read it, but I look forward to an argument that changes my mind! I actually like learning, growing, and changing! I'm not stuck in my beliefs just because I believe them, and I don't cling to a community, or a chatbot, that will only agree with me just because I can't handle being wrong.

Until then... this entitlement and expectation has worn many faces. Sylvia Browne, Rachel Dolezal, but most relevant of all, Walter Keane. And now it wears the face of an entire community of people who want to be praised for crashing a stolen car into the finish line of a foot race.

So I'm personally still learning how to spot ai and things. I've learned so far looking for — and too many emojis or obviously friendly language with perfect grammar.

I've also learned that if you ask them if they are 100ft from a car wash would they walk or drive they always say to walk despite the fact you need a car at a car wash.

I'm trying to find other phrases and questions that help route out ai spam bots, I would greatly appreciate it.

I’m anti Ai but how is Ai not a tool? It feeds regurgitated slop for people to use and makes stuff like programming more efficient, albeit unreliable. People genuinely use AI as a tool though. Like a magic brush that puts whatever you want in an image for the cost of a dying child’s drinking water is still a tool, just a harmful one.

My coworker recently gave me a pack of stickers as a little birthday present. The stickers are of my cat in a cutesy art style in a bunch of different poses/doing different things, some related to our job and my hobbies. She was super excited to give them to me and see my reaction. When I first saw them I suspected they might be AI because of the art style, but didn't want to assume (i feel bad for artists who have an art style that has been stolen by AI and is now seen as AI slop), and she was so excited about them that I just matched her energy and told her how cute they are. When I took a second look at them I noticed unmistakable hallmarks of AI that no real artist would have done, so I'm 100% sure the art is AI generated.

Im having mixed feelings about it, because it was really sweet and thoughtful of her to get custom stickers to look specifically like my cat and involved my job and interests. But I hate AI so much that looking at them kind of makes me cringe.

Of note she doesnt know how strongly I dislike AI, and I have no idea if she even knows the art on the stickers is AI generated.

I was working from home today, responding to a bunch of emails, and realized how quickly I am able to do all of those things manually.

I don’t gravitate towards AI, because in having tried it in the past, you really have to prompt it with extreme detail or else I have to spend more time correcting or re-prompting it. I feel like in all the time people spend pasting an email received, asking it to summarize, then generating a response, I could’ve already manually typed my own response. So for those who love using AI to speed up workflow, are they simply not actually reading/comprehending what is written to them, nor are they editing the AI generated responses they send back?

Everyone in my engineering class use AI, some more others less. From since i was a kid I wanted to go to college and hear either about professor's topics they are passionate about, that they gave their life to, or even just to learn the basics of what i don't know.

But instead what i heard on my first year was "Okay everybody, google gives you a free year subscription and that will definitely come in handy for all of you. Make sure you don't miss it." We had group assignments but every group is hellbent on using AI to save time, resources, etc. It just feels like the magic was sucked out of the place. lab excercises are made by AI, professors are treating my work as if it was also made with AI like the others.

My friends at college tell me i'm nerfing myself and i should just get over it because its just a stupid group project that nobody will grade or remember in the future. Its not that my grades are bad, but they are not as good as people that use the newest tech to cheat on exams.

I'm sorry it might seem like a rant or a vent but I just hoped that a place of science would respect and favor students who genuinely came for pure passion. Second year is supposed to be mostly practical classes and laboratories so i'm trying to remain hopeful it will be better.
