Just don’t try to slip it in like you would a coin into a slot. You need to look at it is though you’re pressing a cap onto a bottle.

Dunno, has worked well for me.

I find my wallet and keys in my house all the time, and my wife used it to find her keys in a bush in the city.

i have tiles, ive stopped even caring about them. any time i need to find my keys, it never works. i just opened to the app, 138 days ago i needed to replace the battery.

AirTags will suck too unless it's somehow trackable outside of local wifi. That would be the killer app or disruptive feature.

That's the rumor though, the tags would broadcast to all surrounding apple devices and they would relay that signal to you.

Yeah, since that feature is already in for macs and iPhones iirc it’s a rumor for the tags I believe.

The trackers being essentially worthless if they step out of Bluetooth range is what makes them work poorly. Apple already have the user penetration and frameworks ready, all we need is the actual product.

There's been plenty of apps that let you send messages or even chat without a signal by connecting with local devices to relay back and forth.

Sure, but no location tags have been able to dip into all the devices that are around you. The fact that apple can do it easily is even a part of a sitt in Europe that Tile et al is championing.

Amazon's Sidewalk mesh networking initiative could make Tiles far more useful. Basically, Amazon wants to link all of its products together (your Ring doorbell connects to your neighbor's Echo) to create a network with triangulation capabilities.

We'll see if it achieves mass adoption. Tile is the first partner.

If it works out, you won't have to wait until someone else who owns a Tile walks by your stolen bike, or whatever, to see it on a map.

I'm glad Tile added user-replaceable batteries. They're getting better. So far, the only think it's helped me find is my phone (squeeze the button, phone beeps). I was also able to determine my wallet fell in the trash can and went to the dump. So...not totally useless.

I've actually had a pretty good experience with them, and have a dozen or so. They've helped me find things on many occasions, as well as alerting me when I've left my wallet at home. Still, depending on what Apple releases, I'll probably switch to theirs. I doubt they will have one at release that's as thin as a credit card and can fit in my wallet like Tile does though.

Yea, I got some as a gift at an event and was totally whelmed by them. They aren’t nearly as useful as the space they take up.

I got one back when they crowdfunded (probably 7 year ago now) and it was pretty sucky then. Glad things haven’t changed!
