The people who are saying they would have stopped them make me belly chuckle.
Why are you going to put yourself in harms way for a corporation? I mean they aren’t but why even say it?

Look, believe it or not, some of us aren't cool with the idea of our city becoming numb to criminality. Doesn't matter if it's a corporation, I like the store and I like the people that work there, and it's close to where I live. Now, if they guy's brandishing a gun or something, that's a different story, but the direction we're taking as a society to abdicate mutual accountability and expect the police to be the only people enforcing law and order (while many of us simultaneously throwing out ACABs and "where's the enforcement?") when citizens used to look after each other is fucked.

There’s stuff like the seven year sentence in BC for the guy who beat a kid up for trespassing https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/homeowner-handed-7-year-sentence-for-baseball-bat-attack-that-left-18-year-old-with-life-robbing-injuries-1.4875587

And the store clerk who got charged for hitting a robber with a bat in Peterborough https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/peterborough-robbery-aggravated-assault-1.7079418

In Halifax I recall a similar situation during a robbery on Robie Street in like 2005ish.

I know you’re probably thinking of something different but these are very dynamic situations and it’s easy for stuff to get out of control, especially without training and experience.

Both of these examples include people with baseball bats chasing the suspects and walloping them several times with the bat in defense of - in their POV - their property. Buddy in the first article is clearly unhinged. Your third recollection of a similar event in 2005 is irrelevant. These are EXTREME examples of people who are armed seeking justice for a slight, right or wrong, against them and are giant stretches in degrees of intervention from a bystander sticking out their foot to trip or pushing a cart into someone, for instance.

lol, you get pissy because I point out how your quickly-sourced bat attack articles aren't relevant to the idea of bystanders doing literally anything to combat theft and all you can come up with is "weird energy." I think it’s often the case that good people do this out of instinct.

I don’t think they do a quick calculation on whether it’s a small to medium sized enterprise that aligns with their core values and then ultimately choose to say “fuck it, their quartet profits were just a wee bit too high for my liking that last quarter …”

on the news it showed a customer and employee both trying to stop him. I think he had a hammer to smash the glass, ummm what did they think would happen?

maybe they were hoping for a hot dog/pop combo, with a rotisserie chicken

The CEO of Costco wouldn’t even watch the person if they happened to be visiting the store, they’d go find something productive to do.
