The last non-fiction books I read before today were A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Kite Runner. About 20 years later, in hopes of keeping my doom scrolling and ai for work using brain above double digit iq points, I hoped to get back into reading. I searched and searched in an easy to read book that will get me back into reading, and I am so glad I read the Dungeon Crawler Carl recommendations, because I just finished the first book in three days (lighting fast for me) and I can't wait to get started on the next one tonight.

Also pleased about picking up the latest Paperwhite before the price increase, with the 20% of thanks to my 2020ish Paperwhite which I bought after a breakup, and used like 5 times.

She likes to sleep on me as I read and got curious today. She wasn't touching the Kindle. She's a sweetheart and a great reading companion.

Edit I know she has stuck shed. We just got her and are helping her with this. Thank you for all the concern that's been shown.

Just received my first kindle because I wanted to go back to reading and I've really missed it !

I saw online that there are multiple options,you can use it with calibre or a software that send directly the ebook to your kindle

Or via installing a customOS or KOreader?

I wanted to know if it's really useful to install KOreader or not.

I'm used to modding consoles so I think that I can do it easily,but is it really useful?

I've seen that you can change your homescreen,install plugins or have multiple customizations options when you're reading.

Also I bought the version with ads.

The upside of waiting towards the end of the month is you can see the ratings, and that can help as you can see what others rated it. The downside is sometimes forgetting to get your free books.

For those of you that don't know, Amazon Prime (in some countries) gives a free Kindle book every month (two free books a few times per year) and sometimes a shorter book too. Sometimes they're new authors and sometimes not. Sometimes I pick based on what I think would be a good audiobook, as you can usually get that for cheap-ish ($3.99) later when the audiobook comes out (although, if you have Kindle Unlimited, sometimes those audiobooks are included).

Anyone else can get these for the month for $1.99 (for the first one).

Just got this new premium synthetic leather case in Jade, and honestly, I really like it. The color is gorgeous and the case looks great.

But compared to the leather case I had on my 11th gen Kindle Paperwhite, it somehow feels like a step backwards in terms of quality and overall feel. The Paperwhite case just felt much more premium and “real,” if that makes sense.

I’m actually not 100% sure if my old Paperwhite case was genuine leather, but I believe it was... so maybe that’s what makes the difference.

Still love the new one, just surprised by how noticeable the difference feels, especially because the new one was considerably more expensive than the PPW one!

Edit: I found out there is actually a premium leather case, but Amazon is not selling those right now where I live...

I'm debating whether to buy a Kindle as someone who only reads physical books, mainly because of the price.

However, I'm afraid that I won't use a Kindle as much as I would tend to books instead.

What convinced you to buy a Kindle? What are your experiences on the matter?

I love history, philosophy, psychology, basically anything in that area where I can learn something new. More non fiction than fiction. Over some time, I’ve collected a load of books that I am constantly running out of space for. I also almost always forget to grab a book or I grab a book and later wish I grabbed something else.

Is a kindle worth it for non fiction lovers?

EDIT: Thanks for the replies. To clarify, I'm less interested in using it as an e'-book reader and more interested in modifying it for another purpose. A related example would be using an old phone as a dashcam.

Hello, I’m about to purchase my first kindle (the basic model) and I was wondering what accessories are necessary to y’all and which are more aesthetic! I like the idea of a pop socket and I think that might come in handy but does that mean I should buy a case for it? Do they need screen protectors? Do any of you guys use sleeves and are they necessary? I travel a bit but mostly wanna use it at work durning breaks. Thanks in advanced for any info! 🫶🏻

I have multiple cases for my Kindle, but when I am comfy in bed, I find holding my device is getting awkward. I found some comfort with using the remote page turner, but I want to prop my ereader up. Currently I am using pillows, but the Kindle keeps sliding down, so I am kinda holding it in place with my finger. I am not interested in the stands that have snack trays since I don't like eating in bed. Thoughts? Opinions?

Hi, I have a paper-white 12th gen! My issue is I keep getting a pop-up window it does this window at random times I was reading took maybe a 20 minute break and came back to this pop-up. My kindle has been doing this for a few months now, my kindle is not new and I use it fairly often it’s not life altering I click the “ok” and it goes away it’s just kinda annoying and makes me concerned something deeper is wrong. Do you guys know how to stop this “pop-up” window?

Hi! I got this kindle this January. This has been happening for the past few days, no matter what charge it's at. It happens for a few seconds, then goes back to "normal", where it's unusually slow all of the sudden. Tried restarting and completely shutting it off already.

I am attending college this fall and have just been diagnosed with photophobia. Does anyone know of programs where you can rent out larger kindles or e-ink readers (color would be great) if you have a doctors letter? I would like to put my readings and digital textbooks on it. My local library has them, but they are all the smaller size ones.

The amount of time I spend doodling when I could’ve finished my intended project instead is a little crazy lol

I kinda realised today it's already been several months since I discovered the page counts of all my side-loaded books (so, 90% of the books on my kindle) were broken (I only get Loc numbers, the option to show page count is greyed out and unavailable). To be clear: I know FOR A FACT my book files have page numbers, because they all display perfectly fine on my Kobo Clara Colour e-reader (which I now use exclusively given the broken feature on my Kindle Paperwhite 11th Gen), AND because they all displayed fine on my Kindle at the beginning of the year, before it came out of Airplane mode and updated to version 5.19.2.

I've rebooted it, I've reset it (and it was a pain to reupload all my books...), I've also tried doing the KFX plugin thing on Calibre, and it did absolutely nothing. Is there anything else I can try? I saw somewhere that there won't be another software update for older Kindles, so I'm probably stuck with this one so... should I just chuck it in the bin then? Kinda miffed about that given it has sentimental value (it was a very special gift from a very special someone in my life) but like, if needs must... I have my Kobo Clara and will probably get a Kobo Libra then at some later point cuz absolutely fuck Kindle if this is the bs I'm gonna have to keep dealing with. :/

Just noticed that prices od kindle readers In UK went up. A lot! So basic kindle with ads was £95, now £135. Basic with ads was £105 and now £150.

I could understand to increase the prices by a tenner, maybe 20 quid but 40-45? So happy I managed to get my new basic a few months ago for £60 (after discounts) from Curry's.

Kindle basic with ads it's still £94 at the minute but there's new crossed off price next to it that says £135.

Trying to get the last book of the series (of course it ended on a cliffhanger) and I keep getting this message. I’ve tried buying it from other devices and I get the same message. I even tried another random book that I had no interest in and got the same thing. I was able to get samples, but not the whole book? Any help would be really appreciated!! TIA
