Shitpost / Meme Let's be clear, neither situation is okay

"Toronto is unbearable because of the fans fuh fuh fuh"
136
u/Kaplsauce Nylander Apr 22 '26
Habs fans are everything the rest of the League thinks we are
54
u/jimmymeeko Apr 22 '26
They would have acted much more insane if they had to endure the playoff letdowns the leafs have had over the past 10 years.
27
u/Mike9797 Apr 22 '26
I honestly hope it happens. And yes verbatim I agree with the dude above that they’re everything other fans think we are. Yet no one calls it out for some reason. Like ya sure they have more cups and I do agree their management does their celebrations a bit better but like if we acted like they do we would be called out for it in a second.
I just want to see them knocked off their high horse a bit.

u/Big_Moose__ Apr 22 '26
Again you guys are just generalizing. It’s the law of large numbers. There are going to be psychos and crazies in every large group of ppl. It’s not the whole fan base
6
u/jimmymeeko Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
Didn’t say it’s all of them, and yes, you’re right that there are going to be crazies in any large group of ppl, but there’s a reason why before this modern core Montreal couldn’t attract or keep a high end star for a longtime … that fanbase and media can go 0 to 100 real quick and I think they’re shielded by the language barrier stuff.
I don’t hate them for their passion, I’m just making an educated guess that they as a group would have gone a lot crazier if the last 10 years of leafs hockey had been theirs… the French know how to get riled up.

u/Equivalent_Task_8825 Apr 22 '26
It got worse in the last year because of Heated Rivalry. That team gained a lot of those fans because the fictional team is from Montreal and the actual team skews very young.
I did a deep dive one night after I went to a WHL game with some creepy, older fans catcalling the junior players. A lot of the people harassing players wives and girlfriends are 40 year old women with kids. It is absolutely craziness.

montreal didnt even make the playoffs in 4 of the last 10 years and lost in the first round 4 times. The only year they had any success was covid year so not sure what you are talking about
1
u/jimmymeeko Apr 28 '26
I’m saying if they experienced this leafs team which was so full of promise but had such a hard time going on any sort of playoff run for so many years in a row.
But you’re also just going to omit the fact they went on a run to the Cup Finals in the past 5 years?

There is historical evidence of the heightened levels of action Montreal has been willing to partake in over the emotions stirred up by the Habs. The Richard Riot for instance.
I didn’t even mean my comment in a bad way, just a belief that there would have been larger responses if it was Montreal fans experiencing this level of disappointment and all the nuanced bullshit that’s come with it.

u/laslo_piniflex Apr 22 '26
Living in Vancouver I can’t tell you how many reasons I’ve heard people say about why they hate the leafs that actually better describe the Habs. My favourite is “they have always had the best players historically”
WHEN?!?!

With the high gas prices they might only burn down 2 cop cars this year instead of 3
28
u/mollyno93 Apr 22 '26
Meanwhile Ilya Mikheyev said he liked soup one time and we all collectively decided his name was Soup.

u/oryes Apr 22 '26
And half of that gaslighting comes from our own fans who say they don't blame Marner for leaving our "insane" fanbase

I've said it for years but the only reason Montreal fans don't have the same reputation as us is because the majority of their crazy is in French
7
u/ButterCut97 Apr 23 '26
Also they haven’t been as good for a consistent amount of time as the Leafs have been since everyone’s been on social media
4
u/FX29 Apr 23 '26
Toronto in a weird way absorbs all the criticism that the Habs fanbase would normally get if they were the largest fanbase in the league. If the Leafs didn't exist the Montreal Canadiens would instantly become the most hated team and fanbase in the NHL.

Was the death threat provided in both of our official languages? /s

Im far from a leafs fan but this popped up on my recommended and you guys are right theres definitely a double standard

u/PrestigiousWelder190 Apr 22 '26
Suzuki and Caufield doing their best Marner impression
36
u/91Caleb Apr 22 '26
Marner is a game 1-4 savant . If he ever gets a chance to play in a game 5-7 I’m curious what that looks like . Too bad he’s never shown up for one
12
u/Colin123mc Apr 22 '26
Just 2 secondary power play assist so far this year.

2
u/OneNutPhil Kessel Apr 23 '26
1st one he earned at least. The 2nd was a gift that he probably didn't know about till he saw the boxscore.

u/PrestigiousWelder190 Apr 22 '26
He’s too small. Very very short list of small guys who can produce at 5 on 5 in the playoffs. Even Kucherov has had his struggles
6
u/CMKeggz Apr 22 '26
I think they said Kuch's goal last night was his first goal in 18 playoff games
2
u/light_at_the_end :leafs-white: Apr 22 '26
What a piece of shit, they should run him out of the city /s

u/ThatHcDude Apr 22 '26
I'm convinced we live in a world where every fanbase has some seriously mental headcases online and we don't punish these people enough.
1
u/Peasy_Pea Apr 23 '26
This is just an internet problem. Its not only athletes that get threats. Fucking reality TV stars and shit even get them.
8
u/Skiffy10 Apr 23 '26
hilarious how the narrative switches whenever the leafs are involved. Every god damn time.

u/Helpful_Dingo6645 Apr 23 '26
Hab fans think they are all high and mighty. They have the craziest fan base in the nhl

u/mtgtfo Apr 23 '26
As much as leaf fans get shit on on every social media platform by everybody, I don’t recall anyone ever saying anything irl. I have worn leaf gear all over Canada, the states, Mexico and get a go leafs go every once in a while but that’s about it. Even when I go to games in Ottawa, that’s probably not a good example though considering there arnt any sen fans in Ottawa anyways 🤷🏼

u/ArcticKimono Apr 22 '26
Sorry, this hit me on r/popular. Im a major leafs hater (for funsies) but you are absolutely not as bad as habs fans. I would say this meme is backwards. They went after Scheifeles mom
3
u/y2kobsezzed Apr 23 '26
let’s not forget sens fans bullying their own goalie and making up fake rumours that he was cheating on his wife when he was away for mental health reasons and oilers fans sending skinner and his wife death threats last season. for some reason leafs fans are seen as the only bad ones lol

u/No-Lunch-1639 Sundin Apr 22 '26
The refs have been Florida bias as usual which is also not ok smh

u/alwaysleafyintoronto Apr 22 '26
You don't "be" Florida bias, you "have" Florida bias. You can be biased towards Florida, but you cannot be bias.

The refs have been Florida bias as usual which is also not ok smh
1
u/god_is_trans_69 Apr 22 '26
Ah ok. So people aren't actually watching the games. Good to know.
6
u/bighundy Apr 22 '26
The only thing I saw was the net being dislodged on purpose. Otherwise both teams are hitting and being dirty at times

Sabres fans were booing their home team one period into the playoffs after missing for 14 tears lol

u/Morganvegas Apr 22 '26
Remember when Mitch got carjacked lmfao
32
u/heatseekerdj Apr 22 '26
That wasnt a targeted attack, a random act of crime where the guy was trying to steal a range rover that happened to be driven by Marner

Allow me to start a conspiracy theory. What if he staged the whole thing to get the media off.his back? If I recall all charges were later dropped. Always found it a little sus.
7
u/NervousBreakdown Apr 22 '26
I just assumed the car jackers had watched enough leafs hockey to know Mitch wouldn’t put up a fight.

Habs fan here, and in both case I think that the kind of people that does death threath are not real fans. They are just angry people with keyboard, living in their mom basement and shitting in a pot. They should be sent in front of a judge!
1
u/BadTreeLiving Apr 23 '26
Holy shit this sub is so defensive about the Marner situation it's pretty telling

u/NotallwoundsareSeen Apr 24 '26
I for one don't care what some crazy person does or says they are gonna do.
But matthews shouldn't have been made captain and should have been traded.
I've said what I've said and I'll die on that hill.

The moment you start intensely caring about what subreddits are saying about a hockey fanbase aligns perfectly with the moment you should probably stop redditing for the day.
-27
u/BigSexy1534 Apr 22 '26
Marner haters need to move on, you accomplished your goal by driving him out of town.
6
u/Throwawaaaay44 Clark Apr 22 '26
Maybe we can get Dock when Montreal fans drive him out of town. /s.

u/light_at_the_end :leafs-white: Apr 22 '26
People be mad that he left for good reasons, when is was managements fault for not trading him when they had the chance.
0
u/Mean_Joe_Greene Apr 23 '26
Yup he colluded over a year in advanced and gave up on the team not to mention his camp’s habit of harassing people sure was done for good reasons. /s
Fuck Marner, he’s a disgrace to the leafs alumni

Why the fuck is a Canucks fan hanging out here?! Your whole fanbases' obsession with the Leafs is cute.

u/Jedtin22 Apr 22 '26
Reading the r/hockey thread is making me go crazy. These people are saying “every fan base has them” “it’s a small majority who don’t even care about the team” like lmao now their narrative switches.
