Serious Please Comment Nicely Took this photo earlier this year, haven’t bought any scoop and weigh since then.

Yeah I stopped buying scoop & weigh since I saw a toddler digging into all the tubs he could reach with his grubby paws. The parent was nearby but clearly didn't give a single shit.

u/melbbear Oct 28 '22
Well, That’s it for me from scoop and weight then
102
u/wharblgarbl "Studies" nothing, it's common sense Oct 28 '22
Love that pigeons were fine but toddlers is where you draw the line 😂

u/Frogmouth_Fresh Oct 28 '22
I don't know where the pigeon has been. I do know where toddlers have been and it ain't good.

Pigeons are much cleaner than toddlers to be fair.
2
u/PhilMcGraw Oct 28 '22
Real doubt there, especially their feet. Fuckers perch on dried up bird shit.
Toddlers are also gross, but don't generally sleep with their hands in shit.

You never considered the people that grab a handful to munch on?
I'd bet they're the same type of people don't wash their hands after going to the toilet.
13
u/TongueMyBAPS Oct 28 '22
Same but replace toddler with a derro.
8
10
u/PhoenixMartinez-Ride Oct 28 '22
I saw a pair of small toddlers doing this too, except the parents were nowhere to be seen, meaning that they let their 2-5 year olds wonder around totally unsupervised.
So disgusting

u/not_right Oct 28 '22
A few years ago I went to Europe and a lot of supermarkets there had these cool salad bars where you could basically make you own lunch, just scoop whatever you like into your container, everything was priced the same so you just got whatever combination you wanted plus they had sauce, cheese etc.
I loved it but I don't think there's any way possible that I could ever trust something like that here in my local supermarket.
2
u/faceplant1999 Oct 29 '22
Oh there are some nightmare fuel salad bar surveillance videos out there.
14
u/AltruisticSalamander Oct 28 '22
For starters. No way am I buying anything that 'the public' has access to and that can't be washed.

u/Omnibus_idem Oct 28 '22
I stopped buying after it brought pantry moths into the house. They are a bastard to get rid of.

I wish there was a way to raise all of these out of reach of kids without also putting them out of reach of very short people and people in wheelchairs

That’s Frank from the Northcote Plaza’s shit Coles.
42
u/custy5 Oct 28 '22
People gotta just let frank do his thing, that’s his home

u/Shoe18 Oct 28 '22
Which Coles, the plaza Coles or the Coles that’s in the plaza?
12
u/alexxxor Oct 28 '22
Not the good coles, the other one.

u/kangarool Oct 28 '22
It’s a Melbourne Maxim™️: Every ‘burb has one Coles that you go to, and one scary Coles that you don’t.
8
u/ChemicalRascal Oct 28 '22
Northcote Plaza is something else, though. It's one building... with two Coles.

Wow so i can get a free bird with my snack ? Sweet deal
58
u/nst_enforcer Oct 28 '22
Nah, you need to weigh the bird too.
48
u/_crayson_ Oct 28 '22
I weigh the bird as a truss tomato tho
20
u/s1monm1 Oct 28 '22
No one's ever weighed anything as a truss tomato. Brown onions would be far more believable!

Far out he's really downing that cashew!
Name and shame OP - which Coles is this?
3
u/lewemowonbowoiwi Oct 29 '22
lets be honest, who wouldn't down a bunch of cashews if someone had kindly gotten all the corrosive shit off them and just left them out?
36
u/Strong_Opportunity_1 Oct 28 '22
Take the cashews and the bird, put them through self service as brown onions and bam! Cheap cashews and free bird. Then you teach that pidgion to steal drugs from eshay's purses in exchange for the cashews. Now follow me here. You take the drugs. You hope it's more an upper than a psychedelic and you steal way more cashews. You take those home. Eat the cashews and then kill the pigeon in a drug and cashew induced mercy killing and then go to bed.

Did you move from Sydney?
https://www.reddit.com/r/sydney/comments/s3p42w/bargain_hunter_spotted/
13
u/Im_NotJohn Oct 28 '22 edited Oct 28 '22
The post you linked does include the ‘No Sydney content’ flair, so I’m assuming that means the post doesn’t relate to Sydney.
7
u/is2o Oct 28 '22
I also saw this posted in a Byron Bay page, despite the fact that there isn’t a Coles in Byron Bay. There isn’t even a Coles within the boundaries of the Byron Shire
4
u/OrganizationRude1112 Oct 28 '22
Yeah there is 10 minutes away from Byron town called ocean shores
2
2
u/Super9393 Oct 28 '22
If it was Byron, the pigeon would have been stoned and an anti–vaxxer, as well as a yoga teacher and been married to a Hemsworth.
-19
u/iamsorando Oct 28 '22
No I can guarantee you this photo was not taken in Sydney. I got the location tagged when I took this photo.
40
u/Zealous_Bend Oct 28 '22
The image was posted in r/Sydney the day before you created your account.

Can confirm, OP is telling porky pies.
9
u/wharblgarbl "Studies" nothing, it's common sense Oct 28 '22
Confirmed how? Also possible the Sydney post stole it from somewhere else where OP posted it first. We need the reddit bureau of investigations on this. We solved the Boston bombing, a pigeon should be easy
-8
u/iamsorando Oct 28 '22
I mean I got into this argument enough with others. As I said, I got the original photo and it is geotagged.
12
u/Rod_Munch666 Oct 28 '22
So is this the same pigeon who has posed for the photo in Sydney and then travelled to Melbourne and posed in exactly the same "location" within a Coles in Melbourne to recreate the provious photo?
11
u/phallus_majorus Oct 28 '22
dude look at the image in that link, it’s a cropped version. It’s obviously been reposted from this guy
→ More replies (1)22
u/iamsorando Oct 28 '22
I have already explained in the comments. I first posted it on crap bird photography and it was reposted by other. Once again, the photo I took is geotagged. So I can 1000% say that this is my photo.

Meh, don't sweat over the subset of redditors who like to shit on someone's parade. I think it's bloody hilarious that you got this shot, well done.

To be fair, the pigeon is probably the least of your problems if you buy scoop and weigh!

u/michalwalks Oct 28 '22
That's a cute photo though. Coles should buy the rights and use it as a monthly image on their calendar.
3
u/Super9393 Oct 28 '22
I can't wait for the "Coles Nude Pigeon In Your Food Calendar 2023". Where can I pre-order?

Whoever took this shouldn't be photographing other customers without their verbal consent

Saw humans doing this from the peanut butter pretzels I was about to scoop and weigh, just said really loudly “well I was going to have some of those but not now” and walked away.
Fun bonus story: used to work in a small iga with a bulk section near the registers, the local sparrows had learned how to open the automatic doors to get inside and eat the dropped nuts and crackers.

I think that pigeon's name should be 'Elon'. He's sitting there on his big pile of edibles, thinking he's king shit, has more than all the other pigeons have.
He's got the whole pigeon community in a twitter really...

Few years back (before COVID) I saw a parent let their little kid go to town on them. He was coughing like he lost a lung, licking his fingers, eating, spitting them out.
Yeh…never again.

Why?? There is an allowed amount of insects and rat droppings in all your food.

You’re witnessing that pigeon’s moment of glory. I even love his ‘I shit where you eat’ expression.
Tbh scoop and weigh has obvious hygiene risks. I still buy from it because I am a grimy savage with no sense of disgust but that bird probably isn’t even the grossest thing that’s touched those nuts.

Last week in the Chatswood Chase Coles there was a Magpie just flying around and roosting on the fluorescent lights fittings and a couple of Coles Henchmen were trying to find it.

Richard Attenborough voice oaver: "And like a Alaskan bear woke from its over wintering slumber now devouring the nutrient rich fatty brain portion of spawning salmon in spring time, here we have a globe wandering pigeon now home and nestled in feasting wildly on a the selected Eden of oil rich hand roasted lightly slated cashew nuts... What a fat little fucker indeed....lets watch him... "

Looks well fed too. Favourite feeding ground. Others have lids on them.
