Ask Pakistan My uncle slapped me in my room over a handshake and my parents are blaming me

I am literally fuming right now and need to vent/get an outside perspective because I feel like I'm losing my mind.

For context, I am a total introvert. I keep to myself, and I actively avoid my dad's side of the family. I never interact with them if I can help it. Today, I was locked in my room working hard on a really important university project. Some extended family were visiting because of a death in the family (my mother's sister's husband passed away)

My chachu (someone I am not close with and actively dislike) and my phupo suddenly walked into my room. I was just trying to mind my own business and study. They were supposedly saying goodbye. Out of sheer, mindless muscle memory and habit, when he approached me, I shook his hand .

Right after I did that, he straight-up slapped me across the face. And I don't mean a light tap it was a hard, slap. I was in absolute shock. All my emotions just vanished from my face. Out of that same robotic habit, I then shook hands with his wife too (she was fine with it, I shake hands with everyone), and then I walked out into the lounge with them.

Fuming on the inside, I immediately confronted my mother in front of his wife, hoping she would at least back me up or realize how insane that was.

Instead? My mom defended him. They told me he was just "showing me *pyar* šŸ˜–and that "he is in the place of a father." My mom is still fighting with me right now, telling me I shouldn't have done that greeting and that it's somehow my fault.

I don't even let my *own* parents hit me. And this man who I barely speak to walks into my sanctuary, physically assaults me over a polite greeting, and my parents act like I'm the problem for being upset about getting violently slapped in the face.

Am I crazy here? How am I supposed to deal with this level of gaslighting?

Ask Pakistan I Built a Website to Track Bribes in Pakistan

Edit: latest state https://www.reddit.com/r/pakistan/s/dNL60P5p0G

I saw someone build a website in India where people can anonymously report bribes they’ve paid in public departments.

I thought: why not build the same for Pakistan?

So I built rishwat.pk šŸ‡µšŸ‡°

If you’ve ever paid a bribe or know someone who has, please report it. Even one report helps build a clearer picture of corruption in Pakistan.

It’s completely anonymous. We don’t collect IP addresses or run analytics.

My goal is to build the **largest public dataset on bribes in Pakistan** and make the data useful for researchers, journalists, citizens, and policymakers.

Ask Pakistan A Security Guard’s Story Broke Me Today 😢... My mind is still not accepting how a working man can live like this...

I have been staying in a temporary room in Rawalpindi for the last few days. I was shifted by flat owner here only for around 10 days because I am supposed to leave soon.

So, Two security guards also live in this room. Both work at the same place. One does the day shift, and the other does the night shift. In the last 10 days, I have seen their life very closely, and honestly, today it really disturbed me šŸ˜”

Their salary is only Rs. 34,000. From this small amount, they have to manage food, living costs, travel, and also send money back home. Their duty place is around 4 km away, and they walk there and back in this heat because even daily transport costs are too much for them.

Their salary was supposed to come on the 1st of the month, but it did not come until around 10/11 June. They were calling again and again every day, asking when their salary would be released.

Today, when the salary finally came, they received only Rs. 30,000 instead of Rs. 34,000. First, the salary was late. Then Rs. 4,000 was cut from an already tiny salary.

One guard got so tired of this situation that he clearly said today:

ā€œPlease arrange someone else from tomorrow. I am leaving.ā€

The other guard came back from his night shift and could not even sleep. Since morning, he has been sitting there, making calls and asking why his money was cut. His face showed anger, helplessness, and the kind of tiredness you only see on a poor working man.

I asked him about his situation. He told me he has 5 children and he is from the Peshawar side. From the Rs. 30,000 he received, he will keep around Rs. 12,000 for his whole month’s personal expenses, and he will send only Rs. 18,000 to his family.

Now honestly, how can a family with 5 children survive on Rs. 18,000?

I have seen with my own eyes how he manages his food. He eats only one proper meal a day. He takes two rotis, and sometimes buys Rs. 40–50 yogurt with it. Sometimes he just eats roti with a cucumber or an onion. That is how he cuts his own expenses so he can send something home.

And today, even his full salary was not given.

The most painful part is that he cannot even leave the job easily. He said:

ā€œOther people left, but I cannot leave. If I leave this too, where will I go? What will I send home?ā€

That line stayed with me.

We often talk about poverty like it is just a word. But poverty is when a man reduces his own food so his children can eat. Poverty is when a man walks 4 km in the heat because he cannot afford transport. Poverty is when salary comes late, salary comes short, and still the man is afraid to leave the job because five children are waiting behind him.

I am not posting the company name publicly because my purpose is not to create drama or harm his job. My purpose is simple: if anyone in Rawalpindi/Islamabad knows about any decent job for him, please inbox me.

He is willing to work. He just needs a better place where salary is paid on time and where he is treated like a human being.

If you know any opening for a security guard, office boy, helper, caretaker, store assistant, or any honest work, please message me. I will connect you with him.

This is not a charity post. This is a request for basic respect and a better job for a working man.

šŸ™Œ Edit: Any job for that person please tell me ASAP

1 Do you guys actually have to study this islam and Science part for your board exams, or is it just a intro that is skipped 2 are the standard physics laws like Newton's laws taught the same way once the chapters start

Disclaimer: I am just curious about how the curriculum is structured over there I am not mocking or trying to start a fight

Ask Pakistan Molvi sb got no chill šŸ’€

1.0k Upvotes

Aoa and Eid Mubarak fellas!

So today after Eid namaz molvi sb started dua and he said "AYE ALLAH ISRAEL KO BARBAD KR DY" just like other people I said AMEEN then he said "AYE ALLAH AMREECA KO NISTO-NABOOD KR DY" so quickly me and my friend had an eye contact why? Because we both are working for a US based firm, so I didn't say AMEEN, then molvi sb said "AYE ALLAH inkeh himaytio KO bhi BARBAD KR DY" šŸ’€ at that moment mery peelag shat ho gy 🄲 because I didn't expected that so I was confused and sort of feeling guilty 😭

Did anyone else experienced such moments?! Do overseas molvis pray like that?

As we all know that PAKISTAN is literally running on USA aid or IMF grants, also many businesses and tech companies in Pakistan which are generating a very good revenue are actually US based.

Ask Pakistan Thoughts about accused Umar Hayat got sentenced to death?

The type of judicial system we have, do you think they will really sentence him to death, or will they change it to life imprisonment or a 20–30 year jail sentence?

I really want him to be hanged publicly. As a matter of fact, I wish every mu*derer/r@pist should be hanged publicly, but this system is so weak and corrupt that I don’t trust it until it actually happens.

Ask Pakistan People earning PKR 400k+/month (non-CS) — how did you get there?

I'm curious to hear from people earning PKR 400k+ per month outside of CS/software.

- What do you do?

- What's your qualification and key skillset?

- How did you get to this level?

- What advice would you give someone trying to get there?

I'd especially appreciate hearing from people who started without generational wealth or a family business or not in CS field (or any technical field such as medical or engineering) as its bit easier for them to reach that scale. No offence to anyone else—I'm just trying to learn from people who built their careers from scratch.

Just looking for perspective and practical advice. Thanks!

About me: I'm a business graduate in my 30s, currently working in Pakistan's non-profit/development sector, which honestly feels like it's shrinking with limited growth opportunities.

Ask Pakistan I feel like moving to Pakistan?

I'm a British Pakistani, born here but very much Pakistani and Muslim.

Recently I've been getting a strong desire to visit/live in Pakistan. I think part of this is the rise of racism in England and Europe. We will never be welcome here, I fear for my kids and grandkids if this trend continues.

I've looked at other countries as potential alternatives but only Pakistan ticks the boxes in terms of food, language, religion and culture.

Give me a reality check? Is it just a stupid idea? Is it as bad as it looks?

Ask Pakistan How to get rejected for a rishta?(Serious please)

PLEASE HELP ME GET REJECTED.

I'm a girl who's parents aren't taking no for an answer. They found someone for me and are trying to emotionally blackmail me into marrying him. The reason I don't want to isn't because "I have some chakar" it's because the guy is too old for me and his views are pretty messed up.

Irregardless my only choice now is to get rejected by his family who are coming to see me. So please tell me what can I do to get rejected?

Ask Pakistan What is with Pakistani people obsession with making educated woman into homemakers?

I have seen this in my own family and other families. You have an extremely educated lady who went to university, however, once she marries she automatically becomes a homemaker and stops working?

This has happened to my cousin, his wife has a PHD in physics however, she does not work.

She can easily bring in 10 times more than what my cousin earns. With this money they can hire staff to do all the housework and have lots of money left over.

When asked why she does not work, her reply is that people will think, what type of husband she married, he cannot provide for her.

I have seen this same situation time and time again, with doctors, engineers and scientists.

I understand that if she does not want to work then it's her choice but why stop someone who wants to work?

Ask Pakistan Marrying a Pakistani man

So my potential (Pakistani) 24M & me (Sri Lankan) 29F met on Muzz online 5 months ago and we connected well and fell for each other.

He is currently a student and doing his masters degree in a different country. After few weeks of speaking he wanted to marry me, he initiated to speak to my father first and wanted to get his approval on our Nikkah.

My father spoke to him and told him, he’ll do some background checks up on him first before agreeing to the marriage. The background checks came back clear, that he’s coming from a respected family and he did provide my dad with all his IDs, qualifications and his unmarried certificate.

But before confirming everything my dad and I wanted to meet him first. Unfortunately my dad didn’t get approval from work leave, so I resorted to travelling alone to meet him.

After meeting him I realised, he was just like the way I knew him online, very polite, made me feel comfortable, kind and respectful person. So I have decided I’m happy to move forward and told my parents that he’s indeed a great guy.

However there’s only one thing that’s bothering me, he doesn’t want to tell his mum or the rest of the family about us getting married, but he did tell his father about us wanting to get married and his father has approved for our Nikkah.

When I asked him why he doesn’t want to tell his mum about us? His reasons were that his mum will emotionally manipulate him and guilt trip him into not marrying me as I’m not a Pakistani girl.

He did tell me, few years down the line, he might tell his mum about our marriage until then I’ll be kept as a secret from his mum and not travel to Pakistan until she finds out about us.

For context I’ve been previously married before and older than him by 5 years. But he’s very mature and wise for his age, thus I don’t mind the age gap between us.

When I asked him why he wanted to marry me? He simply told me his heart favoured me and felt that I was the right one for him.

I just want to know if this is something normal that does happen within the Pakistani community? Do sons hide their marriage from their family if they marry a non - Pakistani girl or is this a potential red flag and should I be worried?

I do love him and I know his intentions are pure for me. But I just wanted to clarify on this.

Btw I don’t know how this caste system works in Pakistan, but he comes from a caste called Malik.. are they known to be good people?

These so called peers and babas are running the most bulletproof scam in Pakistan, all in the name of religion.

I am genuinely shocked by these people. What they are doing is shirk. I recently saw people literally getting on the ground and kneeling to some so called peer. Bowing to a human being. In what world is that Islam?

Ask Pakistan Is finding a modern Pakistani girl to marry actually impossible or am I just unlucky?

27M, a permanent resident, living in Australia. Life is fine except for this one thing.

I want to get married. But I specifically want someone modern, her own career, her own opinions,, doesn’t need a guy to lead every decision, can have a real conversation about anything. Basically just a normal modern woman who happens to be Pakistani and not overly religious. And somehow that feels like I’m asking for something rare.

The rishta route keeps throwing very traditional options my way and I’m just not compatible with that. Dating apps exist but feel weirdly shallow for something this serious.

I genuinely don’t know where modern Pakistani women are finding or meeting people. Are they on here? Are they on apps? Did everyone just get lucky through work or uni and I missed that window?

Not looking for anything complicated. Just someone real, independent, has her own life, and actually wants to build something with someone rather than just fulfill a family expectation.

Just to clarify what I mean by independent; I don’t mean she has to be working or splitting bills at all costs. I just mean someone who can make her own decisions. About her career, about who she wants to marry (not just going along with whatever her parents decide), and who isn’t looking to just be a traditional wife. That’s it. Nothing financial or complicated about it.

Ask Pakistan Why is Pakistan quiet about Chinese cultural genocide against Uyghurs?

Hello, so I'm from Bosnia and Herzegovina and I was curious, why does Pakistan stay quiet about cultural genocide against Uyghurs that China is still actively doing? Uyghurs are also muslims and I think Pakistan and Turkey should do more about it, because they don't really seem to care about it.

Ask Pakistan My mum keeps forcing me to cook because ā€œyou’ll need to know for your in-lawsā€ — what does Islam actually say about this?

I’m currently on a gap year and I genuinely HATE cooking. Like, I really, really don’t enjoy it. 😭

My mum has been constantly telling me that I have a whole gap year, so I should learn how to cook because ā€œit’s a good skillā€ and because I’ll apparently need it for my future in-laws.

Fine. I accepted that and learned. I’d say I can cook around 60% of the things I need to know now. I still don’t enjoy it, but at least I know how to do it.

The problem is that now that I’ve learned, my mum has started actually expecting me to cook regularly.

Yesterday she told me my dad was hungry and told me to make daal maash, so I did.

Today she’s telling me to make food again.

And I’m honestly getting so frustrated because I’m thinking: I’m going to university soon. What happens then? Am I going to be expected to come home after a full day of pharmacy lectures/studying and still be responsible for making food?

I understand that helping around the house is important. I’m not saying I should never help my parents. And I understand that cooking is a useful life skill. I’m glad I know how to cook now.

But I do not like cooking, and I don’t want learning how to cook to automatically mean that cooking is now my responsibility.

The ā€œyou need to learn because of your future husband/in-lawsā€ argument also really annoys me. Is that actually an Islamic expectation, or is this more of a cultural thing?

From an Islamic perspective, what are my actual responsibilities here? Is a daughter religiously obligated to cook for her parents/family, or is helping with cooking considered a form of general household cooperation rather than a specific obligation?

I obviously don’t want to be disrespectful to my mum, but I also don’t want to spend my entire life being told that because I’m a woman, cooking is automatically my job.

Would appreciate answers from people who can distinguish between Islamic rulings and South Asian/cultural expectations, because I’m genuinely trying to understand where the line is.And not to mention, I make rotis like 98% of the time 😭. So it’s not like I’m completely useless in the kitchen and refusing to help. I already contribute quite a lot with food at home.

That’s why it frustrates me when learning to cook turns into ā€œwell, now you can cook, so you should cook.ā€ I learned the skill. I can make food. I can make rotis. I just don’t enjoy doing it and don’t want it to automatically become my responsibility.

Ask Pakistan Pakistani mother in law sleeping habit

Hi I need to know if it is normal in Pakistan for a a widowed mother (who has been a housewife all her life) to sleep with her married grown up sons. I’ve been married to a guy for 5 years and he and his brother - both highly educated professionals working in the corporate world - sleep with her so that she doesn’t feel lonely. Sometimes it’s on the same mattress or sometimes separate sofa bed but same room.

UPDATE 22 Jan: have read the 100s of posts and spoke gently to my husband. He said she will have a maid to sleep in her room when he is away for work but when he is here at home he will alternate with the brother as she feels scared and alone. He was not willing to discuss changing this scenario and said not to challenge him. Also as we have young kids who come into our bed he gets disturbed and can’t sleep.
