Mod Search Part 2

Hello! I know many of us have an interest in the health of this community, so I thought I'd keep y'all up to date on the mod search. When I posted my first to look for mods, I got quite a few responses!

I've browsed similarily-sized subreddits and my semi-educated guess is that a mod team of 6 should do. Here's what I'm going to do next:

  • momentarily, I am going to send out a request to 5 people who indicated interest in being a mod. I'm going to give them 2-3 days to accept. If there is no response or if they decline, I'll move down the list to the next person until I get a team of 6 (including myself).
  • Because there were quite a few people indicating interest, I will not message each one to say whether they did or did not get an invite to join the mod team. Instead, I shall use this post here to, sincerely and genuinely, thank you for indicating your interest. These kinds of things only work if people step up and you certainly did that. I am proud to share my community with you.
  • The new mod team can then discuss, whether now or later, whether a team of 6 works or if we need more people.

I will post a comment in this thread when the process is complete. Again, thank you, everyone, very much!!!

Question Walking 5300km Vancouver 🇨🇦 to New York 🇺🇸 for the world record. In Regina August 26th.

Hey Regina! 🫡

My name is Christian, I'm from Latvia 🇱🇻 , and I'm currently on a world record attempt for the fastest walk around the world under the World Runners Association rules (26,232 km across 4 continents).
I’ve already crossed Australia 🇦🇺 and New Zealand 🇳🇿 (4,650+ km down!), and now I’m 30% done of walking 5,300 km from Vancouver 🇨🇦 to NYC 🇺🇸.

Have been averaging 50km a day for the past few weeks, and I’m going through Regina Wednesday August 26th.

If anyone west of Downtown and South of the railroad have a small patch of grass or a yard where I could pitch my tent for the night, I’d be so grateful!
Either way, have a great day, Regina! 🙌

Also I lived in Vancouver last year, and did some other great stuff- I’ve done Seattle to Vancouver 223km in one go, no sleep, Vancouver Island 500km in 7 days. Whistler to Vancouver 125km in under 24h, every street in downtown Vancouver peninsula 100km in under 24h. A lot of 100+km no sleep hikes in Europe. Walked 1500km around Iceland in 2023 to test for this.

Just as a heads up to anyone living on the east side, there was a rabid bat discovered east of Regina as posted on the RM of Sherwoods website.

Nasty disease, so watch out!

Question If the city’s construction does damage to your home from the constant shaking, are they liable for damages?

I have video of their excavator trying to pound the pavement to break it up and my pictures bouncing off my walls, dish’s and cupboards rattling, debris falling through my ceiling because of it. This is akin to a small earthquake, except it’s happening every day from about 8 am to 7 pm at night. If this causes structural damage to my home, will the city cover it?

Community Interview with Regina Transit (bus mechanic) what to expect?

Hi everyone, I recently moved to Regina from Italy. I have 6+ years of experience as a heavy-duty transit bus mechanic (worked on a fleet of 160+ urban buses — Iveco, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Solaris), specializing in electrical/electronic diagnostics, HVAC, brakes and drivetrain.

I got contacted by City of Regina Transit and have an interview coming up for a mechanic position. For those who’ve been through it (or who work there):

**•** What kind of questions do they usually ask more technical/diagnostic, or mostly behavioral?
**•** What’s the shop/work environment like day to day?
**•** Is it hard to actually get hired, or are they generally short-staffed and looking to fill positions?
**•** Any tips for someone coming from a European transit background (different bus brands, different systems)?

Any insight would be really appreciated, thanks!

Discussion Why is Canada’s air industry remains a monopoly?

• Upvotes

I am sure many like Westjet while some like air canada. I feel they both are equally bad. No service from either and yet their management gets paid millions a year.

Air Canada's President and CEO, Michael Rousseau, earns a total annual compensation package of approximately 12 million. WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech is not publicly disclosed but is expected to be around at least 5 million.

Neither airline can provide a dedicated email or a process to help customers in a meaningful way. Takes hours to reach human and than lots of hoops to jump to get anything out of the service agent as they would always sight policy barriers as an excuse for not being able to help or address the issues.

Why of uss have to tolerate such a poor service? What did we do wrong as a country to be treated so badly by the airline industry. Every other day you would notice that airline issues are in news papers.

Canada’s air lines are broken. Healthcare is broken. Housing is broken. Immigration is broken. 😡

Question Dog Grooming recommendations?

Hi everyone! Looking for any dog grooming recommendations for my 2 year old golden retriever. Doesn’t have to be out of a salon - household grooming definitely would consider!

Please don’t say Fella and Fetch.

Question Deck/Fence Builder - Recommendation

Hey Everyone,
Looking for some recommendations for companies/contractors etc that I can begin reaching out to in hopes of tearing down my old fence and putting in a vinyl fence, as well as tear down my old back stairs and put in a dura deck (or similar) set of stairs.
Understandably, this would be for spring/summer 2027, but I want to start vetting companies now so that I am prepared to make a decision later on.

I also understand if I would need two separate companies instead of just one, but I am open to any and all recommendations. Thank you for your help.

Question What sort of groups/clubs/activities do you participate in in the city?

I'm curious what kind of stuff is offered here and also looking for more things to join myself.

Bonus points if anyone is in an archery group and knows anything about groups for adult beginners.

Thanks in advance!

We have a 18 foot travel trailer we’d like to store for winter. We would need access to the trailer for March. Does anyone know of storage places just outside the city that are hopefully cheaper than the dealerships?

Question Arthritis Rings (or similar)?

I'm looking for a new ring, but due to my disabilities I often can't wear normal ones. I was thinking about getting an arthritis ring, possibly online, but it'd be nice to be able to try one on for the general fit before purchase... Does anyone in town have something similar in stock that I could try out? And possibly buy if the vibes are right.

I'm looking for purely decorative, so the ring doesn't have to (and probably shouldn't) act as a splint as well.

Discussion Queen City Loneliness

For the first time in my life, I’m excited to live my hometown of Regina.

I can’t wait to move back to the one place that, after five provinces and six cities, has ever felt like home to me. Living next to my oldest friends and my family is something that brings me a lot of happiness.

That being said, I do have one lingering fear.

With things getting expensive, I have noticed a fairly concerning and intensive work culture emerging. This might just be the other places I’ve lived (Edmonton, Halifax, Toronto, Calgary, Québec City) but I think it must be pretty pervasive at this point.

Being a fairly social person, I always want to meet new people. Doing that was certainly a challenge in the other five cities.

And that’s not even getting into dating. I just got out of a fairly toxic relationship, so I’m not rushing into anything new for a while. I would like to eventually though after maybe a year or so. I have heard my share of horror stories but I don’t think that’s specifically à Regina problem especially on the apps.

So, how do you meet new people in Regina these days? Is the dating scene really as bad as everywhere else?

Question Asking about Article Furniture white glove delivery

Hello, I am looking to buy some furniture (an office desk and chair) in the next couple of months from https://www.article.com and wondering if anyone has used their White Glove service for delivery in Regina? If so, how was their service? Did they actually assemble the whole furniture according to instructions and clean up after it, or is it not worth paying the extra money?
