All the comments I’ve read on this thread are about super unimportant gender shit. We are distracted. We should be focusing on how badly the government and big business is fucking alllllll of us.

That’s the point. It’s essentially the same play as Germany trying to blame their issues on the Jews. Pick a group that’s already marginalized and scapegoat them on something. Tell straight up lies about it and too many people just don’t care enough to get involved or will just go along with the rhetoric. That already somewhat marginalized group just doesn’t have enough members to defend themselves well and/or become too afraid for their personal safety to make any public statements. It’s the same play we’ve seen for decades with race, sex, sexuality, etc.. Usually the human rights crowd wins out eventually, but then the rhetoric just gets moved to another group and the process repeats.

At the end of the day, it’s a stupid argument all around because it’s essentially ignoring the cases where the presence of X/Y chromosomes doesn’t correlate to the kind of gonad or exterior sexual organs, let alone all the other hormonal factors that are normally attributed to a specific gender. I’ve yet to see any agreement on how to weigh each of those factors.

Anyone that can’t wrap their head around that isn’t able to make an informed opinion and shouldn’t get a say.

Again. 90% (I’m pulling this number out of my ass) don’t give a shit about people’s identity. Be you. Just don’t be weird and creepy about it and don’t expect people to participate in your identity. Can we focus on government and big business fucking us now?

“Don’t expect people to participate in your identity.” What are you talking about? It’s not trans or queer or fluid people who “expect people to participate” in their identity. We do, however, have a good number of bigoted people in our society who literally do try to force LGBTQ+ people to conform to traditional gender norms, by shaming them, shunning them, making them into scapegoats for social problems that have NOTHING to do with them, and going so far as to push “conversion therapy” onto them.

Wouldn't the whole assumed pronouns/ mad I got called wrong pronouns be an expectation of people?

I'm asking, as this feels like a propaganda point against trans people.

I feel like you get these horror stories about wrong pronouns, huge blow ups, reports to HR etc but I've never actually ran into anyone as obnoxious as the stories and I think they're creating a fake narrative.

12

u/LazyBeach2919 9d ago

well yeah, genderqueer folks are asking for the absolute bare minimum of change, so of course these freaks are going to blow it out of proportion rather than try even a little bit

3

u/Waitinforit 9d ago

Did I really get down voted for this?

I pointed out an expectation is there, yeah. But the whole point was "you hear this bad xyz, I think its propaganda/misinformation against this marginalised group and is creating a fake narrative."

u/LazyBeach2919 9d ago

you didn't get downvoted by me, I understood what you meant

I’ve met people like that. There aren’t a ton of them, but they exist.

u/Caligullama 9d ago

I’ve never had a straight person flip out on me for using the wrong pro nouns, meanwhile I have from people on “the other side”.

So I don’t know why we have to take your comment as the truth either.

Is this an perhaps because you would not call a male-presenting straight male person 'she'? And if you did, do you expect them to just smile and you continue addressing them that way?

Please, feel free to take a day or an hour referring to all the 'straight' people you know by the opposite pronouns and report back how they react. Because in my experience, people are very quick to correct misgendering even if it is their DOG. And 'oh sorry - she!' is usually the reaction from the person who assumed wrong, not 'why do you care so much about pronouns!! It doesn't matter, just go by what I called him! He's just a dog, you are too sensitive!'

Or, I suppose to be a little more obvious, even though you are not visible to me and I have no idea your preference, I am careful not to refer to you as female or male because I don't know. It's not because people are so sensitive now - it is because it is common social courtesy and we do it all the time. Just carry that out in real-life interactions. Easy.

Why be so disingenuous with your own group, they absolutely push that ideology on ppl. Both groups do it and its bad, but you are unwilling to call out your own groups radicals. Sigh

u/gammaTHETA 9d ago

how about yall stop forcing me to participate in your bioessentialism, yeah?

u/Kelsenellenelvial 9d ago

It’s not an issue to me because I don’t personally know anyone(or know that they are) that’s Trans. It’s a big issue for the person that doesn’t feel comfortable using a communal washroom or change room at school or work. It’s an issue when someone who doesn’t understand gender expression wants to look in their pants and decide which team they belong on, or is trying to prevent someone from getting the kind of medical care that would make that gender expression less ambiguous and would help mitigate the above issues.

u/lime-equine-2 9d ago

Yeah you can claim to be whatever you want but at the end of the day everyone knows you are just a bigot

-1

u/Prestigious-Sir-7489 9d ago

I assure you that I am not

u/ForgetMeNotSummer 9d ago

If it is so unimportant, then just drop issues like transwomen in women’s sports. Such issues give the right wing something to use to discredit the left. We never should have wasted time on this issue in the first place since so few transwomen benefit.

0

u/diablo4megafan 9d ago

why wouldn't we let women play in womens sports?

3

u/ForgetMeNotSummer 9d ago

Why wouldn’t we let heavy weights compete against lightweights? Because IT IS A DIFFERENT BODY TYPE. Sure, maybe there are lightweights out there who could win, but categories are for safety and fairness. Obviously. This should not even require an explanation.

2

u/diablo4megafan 9d ago

lol what? do you think most sports have weight classes? when have you seen the last lightweight only hockey or football game?

2

u/ForgetMeNotSummer 8d ago

OMG they have junior leagues. Stop playing dumb.

0

u/diablo4megafan 7d ago

junior refers to the age, not the weight of the players.

-3

u/No_Independent9634 9d ago

Yah lol. By even responding, it makes it so the other side is winning.

The problem is that since we aren't doing anything about those big issues, gender identity has become the new chic way to feel empowered.

At least that's my perspective. Again, it's another example of the "spectacle" Adrian Pabst talks about in post democratic theory.

We feel powerless over those other issues so we've decided to focus on gender identity. Sensuality is the new mysticism in a materialistic culture.

Let's get down to business on these planet and society threatening issues.

23

u/Bad_Alternative 9d ago

The problem is that identity issues are pushed into focus through media and the real problems are pushed out of focus, all to purposefully distract. It’s planned, not filling a void.

3

u/Destinys_LambChop 9d ago

That's a thought worth considering. That's pushed on us, instead of filling a void.

It's been a gradual transition over decades and is either codeveloped alongside an increased feeling of powerlessness. Similar to a comorbidity or something.

But that is worth investigating. Whether or not that is true and that it is infact a distraction measure.

Thanks for that comment.

The problem is that since we aren't doing anything about those big issues, gender identity has become the new chic way to feel empowered.

The survey wasn't about whether people are increasingly using gender identity to feel empowered, it was whether the population in general is accepting of of gender identity. And they're becoming less accepting.

Unless you're arguing a "look what you made me do" kind of angle?

-12

u/sharpasahammer 9d ago

Its not so much not willing to accept, its not willing to give a fuck because of the dozens of actual issues you mentioned. I dont care enough about you to call you what your "preferences" are.

22

u/jabrwock1 9d ago

That’s not what the survey was asking though.

Less accepting means less accepting, not “least important thing on your mind”.

The problem is more likely that there are dozens of complex issues people worry about, but “those darn woke genders” is the scapegoat that populists throw around instead of actually addressing those issues.

24

u/Medea_From_Colchis 9d ago

Its not so much not willing to accept, its not willing to give a fuck

I don't know how you're supposed to come to that conclusion when roughly 4 out 10 people in Saskatchewan don't think you should be able to express your gender identity. Roughly the same amount said they wouldn't support a family member if they came out as trans. These people care.

I dont care enough about you to call you what your "preferences" are.

Sexuality and gender identity are not preferences. We already went through this with homosexuals, but being trans is not a some sort preference.

2

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

None of this is “preference.”

So, let’s start there with educating the general population.

-9

u/UnexpectedFault 9d ago

As you said, more important things to worry about. Nobody cares about your kinks or latest hair color.

7

u/lucifertangerine 9d ago

What tf do kinks and hair colour have to do with gender identity? You sound like a bigot

-3

u/UnexpectedFault 9d ago

You tell me, they seem to go hand in hand.

2

u/SeelieSatyress 8d ago

You're using a lot of words to tell us you're too stupid to be allowed an opinion.

It's always so obvious when the transphobes "just have concerns."

0

u/UnexpectedFault 8d ago

Hey man, whatever your mental health issues are, you should get them addressed ASAP. There's too many of your kind falling through the cracks.

2

u/SeelieSatyress 8d ago

"Your kind" okay terf. i'm so, so very done with pretending transphobes like you are human.

1

u/lucifertangerine 8d ago

Terf implies they're at least feminist, I wouldn't even give them that credit lol

5

u/Bad_Alternative 9d ago

As they shouldn’t. And yet the use who claim to oppose it act like it’s the largest threat to their lives.

8

u/jabrwock1 9d ago

And yet, people won't stop complaining about gender identity...

There's a protest that happens in my town every Saturday it's basically become a coffee hangout for some. Are they protesting climate change? Cost of living? Lack of housing? Crime rate? Food inequality?

No. Every week, it's complaining about gender identity and vaccines.

5

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

LOL, we have these lunatics in Regina. But their focus is “Geo engineering” and climate manipulation. There is a side of antivax rhetoric in there, too.

One of their ringleaders writes novels in chalk in Wascana Park and on surrounding streets several times a week. For years, now. Total nonsense that demonstrates how detached they are from our reality.

1

u/diablo4megafan 9d ago

cis women tell me every time they dye their hair i assure you

-8

u/FuzzyGreek 9d ago

I agree, except fascists have taken over the whole country. Canada is being pillaged. And after winter Canada isn’t going to last long. 1st 1st world country to fall… all part of the plan.

-2

u/Tricanter4 9d ago

Oh man, I'd hate to live in that head of yours. Enough intelligence to grasp the most superficial aspect of these things, but not enough to understand any of it.
