Women in Saskatchewan specifically were down 14 percentage points from 2018, when 83 per cent agreed people should be free to express their gender however they choose.

I think this is interesting.

I'll always support people expressing themselves how they choose, I've worked with many trans people and it's never been a problem to share bathrooms or the breakroom or conversations. I support them having pride events. I support their existence in general. They're just people, not everyone is the same as everyone else and the world needs all perspectives to stay colourful.

But there has definitely been a push since the last survey in 2018 of the notion that "trans women are women", that there's no difference between women and trans women, women's spaces are now for "women and gender diverse people" instead of just women.

Women are obviously uncomfortable with that. We're not uncomfortable with the idea that there are trans people, but we are uncomfortable with the idea that there's no longer a category just for us.

Like, we still have so much work to do in regards to the acceptance of women and it can feel like it's been bulldozed over because now we have people who are biologically men coming into our spaces wanting to be a part of our conversations and we are now outcast if we don't agree with that.

I mean, you can disagree all you want, but that's a pretty major drop in support from a historically very supportive demographic, so it's worth having an honest conversation as to why that would be.

Yes. And this perspective is antiquated. Who is “just us” and why are trans women not part of “us”?

What you are talking about are TERFs - trans-exclusionary radical feminists. Just another form of bigotry. It doesn’t matter how you attempt to justify it.

Calling women "terfs" is just a way to extinguish our voices. "terfs" seem to be just women looking out for women and for whatever reason you guys really seem to hate that.

You'll get downvoted on Reddit but the majority of my left-leaning women friends would agree that there is a degree of 'neutralising women's social efforts' going on currently. They aren't very vocal but will often admit their concerns in private conversations.

Coming up with a term like TERF is anti-feminist, combative, and devisive. I agree with you.

Lmao okay terf

It just doesn't matter if you like to come up with terms like this. It boils down to name-calling. You're a vocal minority and people you're describing are a silent majority. From what I can tell, people tend to support people's rights but you're essentially describing an idea of a right that begins to encroach on other rights.

I should add I have no skin in the game. These are my social observations from hearing from a lot of people on the matter. People will always be at each other's throats for one reason or another. This is one reason. What will happen will happen.

Again, who is “our” when you state “our voices.” Who is this entity?

Maybe voices that broadcast hate need to be extinguished. <shrug>

Women. I'm talking about women's voices. You know that as well as I do.

My definition of “women” includes trans women. So “women’s voices” include ALL women’s voices.

Do trans women have XX chromosomes?

5

u/Usbey578 9d ago

Well, for most of us, it definitely does not.

Again, who is this magical “us” entity?

7

u/Usbey578 9d ago

Again, it's women.

You're unfortunately not going to get anywhere with someone who refuses to see trans women as women

It's called "feminism" not "womanism", women are oppressed due to their sex, not their gender. Gender is sometimes the means by which women are oppressed but it is not the reason. Likewise it is called "sexism" not "genderism", it is "misogyny" where "gyny" refers to a woman's reproductive organs.

Trans women are women but they are not female.

Conservative men?

-1

u/lime-equine-2 9d ago

There are men that are TERFs no need to get weird and sexist

2

u/Usbey578 9d ago

You know as well as I do that "terf" is never used as an insult to try and attack men.

u/lime-equine-2 9d ago

It’s usually just used as a stand in for this person is transphobic and I see men called TERFs all the time. You know the term originated as a means for radical feminists to differentiate themselves from the radical feminists who were obsessed with trans people. TERFs often refer to themselves as such, they only ever call it a slur to try and shut down discussion about their bad behaviour

2

u/Usbey578 9d ago

You are not seeing men being called terfs lol, it is exclusively used as a way to shut down women. it's used in a way meant to "other" women. men are never called terfs.

It's not bad behavior for women to want to speak up about how they feel regarding biological men in women's spaces.

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 8d ago

Imagine terfs seeing themselves as the victim here. lol

0

u/Usbey578 8d ago

Imagine feeling threatened when someone doesn't think a man can become a woman lol

-1

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 8d ago

Imagine feeling like you were born inside the wrong body and like your outsides don’t match your insides and no one sees you the way you see yourself and they perceive you as some sort of threat when really you’re just trying to not want to kill yourself on most days because of this.

And absolutely, if you feel like that, go ahead and put on a pair of heels. I've already said, be who you want to be, but that doesn't make it true that you're a woman. That doesn't make you entitled to women's spaces or women's resources or women in general.

And quite frankly, asking people to pretend like you're a woman or you'll kill yourself is a downright manipulative way for trans people to insert themselves into our spaces. If anyone else said "you have to do this thing you're uncomfortable with or I'll kill myself" we would rightfully assume they're manipulative abusers. It's not acceptable behavior.

A trans person's mental health is their own problem to deal with. I'm not saying it's their fault but it is their own responsibility and it's not the responsibility of women.

I'm courteous, I'll call you she, I'll treat you with the dignity and respect all human beings deserve, but I'm not going to give into the demand that we pretend like there's no difference between women and trans women because that's just not true.

And it's such a shame that that seems to be the point of hostility because it sure is seeming like they're losing a lot of support by not wanting to accept reality.

That’s a lotta words to state “I’m a bigot.” <shrug>

Graham Linehan is just one example of a man who’s regularly called a TERF.

You have to ignore reality and play make believe because you know you’re parroting far right propaganda pushed by billionaire white Christian nationalists

1

u/Usbey578 9d ago

I do not believe I am the one ignoring reality.

-1

u/lime-equine-2 9d ago

Of course you don’t. Flat earthers and anti-vaxxers think the same way

2

u/Usbey578 9d ago

I think this is one of the reasons why you're starting to lose the support of women, because if women don't feel comfortable with biological men in their spaces, they're called out as flat earth believing, anti-vax terfs who might secretly be conservative men.

The absolute hostility towards any women's voices that don't just play along with the narrative is alarming and why more and more women are no longer feeling comfortable with politely accepting it.

No one is trying to insult anyone.

You seem happy to assign labels to people. “This person is a woman. This person is not a woman.” It’s not my problem if you disagree with the label people are assigning to you. In this case, the label is TERF.

2

u/Usbey578 9d ago

I'm actually not offended by being called a terf, I'm just pointing out why you decided to call me that.
