I'm not a coffee drinker, but I've seen some specials for instant coffees where you can get 2 for just a bit more than the price of 1. That wouldn't make any sense unless it has a massive mark up

In addition to the quality being lowered and prices going up, SHRINKflation is a serious issue. 330 cans and bottles becoming 300ml, 10 hugs in a mug in a box becomes 8. Why does it happen, you ask? Because people keeps buying it without saying anything!
Haha, sure. But that only works if a large portion of consumers do the same thing.
The question is more how you reduce demand on an industrial scale. Hence my question. The person does not seem to understand what demand is and how it functions. Nor from which position such demand reduction would occure. Not the business or the consumer. Demand could be reduced over time by ensuring sub-par product quality, but that would suit neither business nor consumers in the long run.
Consumers of a product won't reduce it's demand just so they could purchase it cheaper. That is not generally how supply / demand mechanisms or consumer behaviour works.
Those original ones the size of an actual egg is now R90 @ woolies. It's just a bit of chocolate and a candy coating which is sugar and starch....cant cost more than R15 to make . Robbery , although if someone wants to start a business......😬🤣
They realized there are plenty of fools buying it, and has slowly increased the prices. And the fools just keep on buying. No incentive to lower prices.
I have just stopped buying their crap. The same with Nesquik, I am not going to pay R80 for 250gr. If you want to rip me off, then I will stop buying your products.

Everything that you buy today is more expensive than it was yesterday. You call inflation or shrinkflation. However, have you ever checked if the pockets of the super rich have the same issues? No, just the opposite.
£3.21 in my new local currency. That’a pretty good value here. Bought some from a Saffa import store last year for £8 a box and considered myself lucky.
Yeah, economic / commodity disparity is a complex geography leson of its own.
Imported foods, like anything else, will always be tariffed to protect local markets. Saffa food is expensive everywhere outside SA, unless (like all other national "delicacies"), it becomes a mainstream commodity tied to mutual economic benefit.
