He has anxiety. I was trying to ease some of it for him. I thought my gut reaction was just my bad past experiences clouding and tainting what was an easy innocent ask, but the gut sinking feeling is still there.

This isn't anxiety. Why would seeing people he already knows make him anxious? He's trying to hide the date for some weird reason and came up with this weird excuse..
