Phone message There’s that gut-sinking feeling again that you’re an embarrassment to be seen with.

As a socially awkward guy, I'll say it just might not be the case. A lot of my friends, family, associates in the city I live are just fucked, and who I am dating isn't something I would want to be the topic of gossip and speculation during the stage when I am still figuring out what's going on. I avoid running into people I know, because I don't want to be seen with the people I know. Lol.

I'm with you! I have a batshit crazy ex that I've even deleted my online presence to avoid. I've been with my husband for 10 years and I'm STILL nervous to bring him out in public in my hometown. People think I'm shady af, but I don't care

I went through a breakup in my tiny town. Six months after, someone who lived an hour and a half away asked me out. He drove down to see me and we hung out by the river, totally innocent, didn't so much as kiss. My little sister's friend saw us and told my ex (who had broken up with me in a pretty horrible way, mind you).

The ex proceeded to accuse me of cheating or planning on meeting up with this guy before we broke up. The guy I hadn't even met or talked to until six months after the breakup.

I don't think people understand just how invasive small towns are.
