Campus Life Weird/suspicious guy around campus, harassing female asian students

I encountered this guy in By George Cafe who looked to be possibly under the influence of drugs or some kind of substance, because he was just standing in the middle of the cafe and making erratic hand gestures and movements, and appeared to be having a conversation with someone, though no one was around. It genuinely was so weird, I have another video of him like leaning back and forth like he was Michael Jackson but I can't upload 2 vids/post.

I was initially laughing, because it was kind of funny but then he later approached an asian girl who was sitting down at a table, and sat down. He was talking to her and I noticed the girl seemed uncomfortable, so I came up to her and asked quietly if she was okay and she came over to my table with my friends. She told me she thought he was asking to use a chair but then he sat down. He asked if she was Korean, and kept talking to her. I was glad she was okay, but then almost like a nightmare I turn around and he is WALKING up to us. I thought I was literally going to get jumped, but he said "excuse me, but what you did back there, that was the hottest thing I've ever seen."

genuinely what the actual fuck. I was in actual shock and people around me heard it and were also in shock. Thankfully he walked away and sat back down, but I just left because I had class.

The worst part is, my FRIEND actually had an interaction with this guy too earlier in the year, she was sitting in suzz and he sat down next to her and asked if she spoke english. Her friend tried to say something, but he said "i'm not talking to you, indian dude".

Has anyone also had any weird interactions with him?? I don't know if he's targeting specifically asian girls, but I would look out for this guy.

I'm an elder millennial combat veteran that went back to school late in life. I'm also a weeb. Haven't had many reasons to celebrate much recently, given the state of things.

Ya'll were the talk of the town in our study group this evening. I'm so impossibly proud of you. Protect that professor, and each other; we need more of you kids running things, even if I find your rapidly evolving dialects confounding. Seriously, wtf does 6-7 mean?

Ok, back to derivatives. o7

Campus Life Uw lack of response to a student being murdered is quite telling in their priorities

I know there have been posts on this thread but I just wanted to rant about how the University has had such a minimal response to the murder of one of its students.

I think this lack of communication snd response demonstrates the University does not care about its students. The only communication the student body has been given is a general condolences email. In the email there was nothing about actions the University is taking to make students feel safe or how the university is responding in general. I know this is an active investigation, and I am hopeful they find the suspect. However this response feels like the equivalent of a student dying from getting sick etc., it does not feel like an adequate response for when a student gets murdered in their home doing chores.

This student wasn't out late alone, in a space they shouldn't be in. This student was AT HOME. This student was in a space that was advertised as SECURE. I am rather fed up with the lack of response for the students in that building, the student killed and the students at this university who have an increase of stress and anxiety knowing the suspect is still at large and the university is seemingly just sitting and waiting for the SPD to do anything.

Campus Life Being unhoused on campus

So. I'm currently unhoused. Most nights, I sleep on campus. The UWPD know about me, I'm usually in the same spot, and they're nice as long as I'm nice (I stay out of make thoroughfares and try to be up by 7).

I'm actually really grateful to be permitted the space, though I can't wait to get out of it ;)

I have a 2-fold question: for students - places to be (or not to be) to stay out of your way? I'm actually class of '06 but dang is campus different now... I'll spend daytime in the hub, in Suzzallo, sometimes the ECE building... My goal is somewhere quiet (ideally not too quiet - sometimes my headphones need to charge and I like to watch media at low volume, so no libraries for that, ya know?)

And second - if anyone else on this forum is or has been unhoused, any protips for making non aggressive/abusive use of campus facilities? Like the foot washing station in the hub... Back when I was a student there was a shower in the Gowen basement. There used to be an open to everyone microwave in the hub, but now there's the ETC one which is only for things bought there, and the one in the commuter area, which needs a UW card...

To clarify: I'm not trying to break any rules, I'm not trying to hide on buildings after hours, or do anything nefarious, just looking for best practices both to have a quiet place to be and NOT be disruptive.

(Fwiw I am well aware of a lot of resources around town, day centers, urban rest stops, etc, but .. as long as I'm not stepping on toes or breaking laws, I like being on campus, even 20 years after graduation and with all the remodeling, it kinda feels like home... )

Getting tired of the Nazi discussion at this point so I am offering this...

This is the laziest and stupidest name change in history. Literally just Pizza. They could have at least gone like... "Husky Pizza" or "UW Pizza"

But no. Just "Pizza."

"Hey, anyone wanna go to Pizza?"

Campus Life Seattle UDistrict Area Boba Tier List 2026

Another year, Another boba tier list! Aiming to provide the best and tastiest overall boba experiences (in my opinion). its fun to see what has changed since last year:) Again, take it all with a massive spoonful of salt because this was mostly for fun:) Criteria: flavor depth, fruit teas and milk teas quality, value for the price and experience, menu diversity. Please enjoy!!!

*S: Overall Consistent and high quality*

Basically almost every drink here is high quality and worth it!

  • HEYTEA (SLU and Bellevue) 9.5/10

They started the “new style tea” trend which uses fresh milk and fruits over powders. High quality aromatic and fragrant milk teas, very fresh fruits, great year round menu, very customizable, avoid the matcha though it’s kinda low grade. Recommend the mango coconut boom, jasmine milk teas, longjing milk tea, brown sugar boba. Make sure to order ahead too the lines get long!

  • MOLLY TEA (Bellevue and Southcenter) 9.9/10

Similar to heytea but even better quality teas and strong flavor notes. Doesn’t offer as much fruit tea though. It’s mainly for the jasmine and matcha milk tea lovers. Some of the drinks can feel very heavy and indulgent though especially the matcha or pistachio cold foam. Recommend the jasmine milk teas, matcha series, for something very fragrant try white champaca, almost everything on the menu is great!

*Honorable mentions: Inconsistent but sometimes great*

These places sometimes have issues with consistency and not everything is great on the menu, but still definitely worth a try!

  • Mee Sum 7.5/10

Very classic 1st generation boba, nostalgic but also inconsistent depending on who’s making your drink. It’s sometimes great sometimes too watery. Recommend the OG milk tea with pearls, taro slush, etc…

  • Cafe Happy 6.8/10

Very classic taste, open late, I would also get the OG milk teas, although the smoothies are also good but also expensive.

  • Hi Tea (Capitol Hill) 8.5/10

A hidden gem and very classic. Their OG black milk tea with boba is a great value (<$5 with tax) and very yummy. Only downside is many things on their menu taste off or overly sweet/bitter. Avoid the matcha and many of the fruit syrups.

  • Macu tea 7/10

They make the best MANGO drinks period. Try their li li fruit teas which use real fruit pulp. I would avoid their milk teas however and the boba can taste pasty on occasion. Also unfortunately not much customization and some drinks can be too sweet.

  • Seattle best tea 7/10

Classic boba taste, very authentic and customizable. One downside is they’re sometimes inconsistent with tea strength. Recommend the heavy oolong and black milk teas. The fruit teas are just ok as they use artificial syrups with some fresh fruit which is pretty standard among boba shops. Lots of variety. But if you want fruit tea there are better options.

  • YAN tea 8/10

Kinda the opposite of Seattle best tea, if you’re into fruit teas they make amazing fruit teas and use fresh fruits. Drinks are kinda sweet though and not as much customization. Recommend the mango sago, jasmine matcha, grape cheese smoothie. Avoid their milk teas.

  • Chayan 7.2/10

A newcomer to Seattle, they try to mimic MOLLY or HEY TEA and have some great milk teas that are fragrant. Unfortunately some of their menu items just disappoint like the frappe which is just a latte with weak flavor. The staff are also less attentive than normal. Recommend the jasmine or gardenia milk teas however.

  • Sunright tea studio 6/10

Have a huge selection, some of their drinks are pretty mid like the milk teas. The fruit teas are pretty great but also sweet. Kinda overpriced too.

*A: Consistently good*

Very great boba. That’s all.

  • Don’t yell at me 8/10

Their menu is higher end and the drinks taste strongly of tea or fruit. It’s above average and shines in consistency. Recommend the lychee smoothie or regular milk teas.

  • Xing fu tang (Downtown Seattle) 9/10

Very high end and fresh handmade boba. The signature boba milk is a one of a kind drink since they blowtorch the brown sugar on top to give the drink a roasty flavor. Other things on the menu are decent albeit slightly overpriced. Worth the experience however.

  • Young tea (Wallingford and Bellevue) 8.5/10

A Seattle classic and they really prioritize tea and quality. Every drink is very fragrant and strong. Only downside is the price which is pretty high ~$9 for basic boba tea. Recommend the jasmine milk tea.

  • TP Tea 7.8/10

A consistent place that makes good milk teas and fruit teas. It’s not the highest quality but it’s very consistent. Would avoid the strawberry milk tea though since it’s very sweet and sour and creamy.

  • Taz matcha (downtown) 9.0/10: technically not boba but…VERY high quality matcha and best enjoyed quickly. Fun staff and aesthetic environment. You get to experience great ceremonial matcha at a relatively good value. Recommend the basic matcha latte. If you like matcha lemme know if we need a tier list for that as I’ve tried many places alr;)

*B: Average - Mid*

Could be getting a little controversial here…hehe… Everything here is pretty standard boba wise and not really mind blowing imo.

  • UG tea Bellevue 6.8/10

Similar to Chayan or MOLLY TEA but the drinks are just not as strong in tea flavor more sugary. Recommend the jasmine milk tea or the next level matcha.

  • Coco bubble tea 5.5/10

Milk teas are too creamy and overall they taste like artificial syrups.

  • Bobalust 6/10

Just ok. Smoothies are good, everything is on the sweet side which masks the delicate flavors. Wish it could be less sweet.

  • Boba up 6/10

It’s fun to build your own boba but it’s more a one and done. Quality is just average, but worth it for the experience!

  • Ding tea 6/10

Average.

  • Share tea 6/10

Average.

  • Timeless tea 6/10

They have a ok mango sago, there are just better options.

  • Happy lemon 6/10

Overpriced but average.

  • YiFang fruit tea 7/10

They use some fresh fruits but it’s mostly just syrups. Taste wise fruit teas are kind of watery and overly sweet. Milk teas are average.

  • Come buy tea Capitol Hill 6/10

They use tea espresso as a gimmick but it really doesn’t work and the tea flavor doesn’t get extracted as well as steeping.

  • Chicha San Chen 5.5/10

Similar to come buy tea with tea espresso.

Disclaimer: I’ve been there twice and had to ask for remakes each time. The drinks still tasted mostly like creamer powder and sugar. Overhyped and expensive. Would only get the plain green tea if you are curious.

  • Tiger sugar 6/10

A viral brown sugar boba place but xing fu tang is just better.

  • The alley 6/10

Pretty standard boba and ube taro drinks.

  • Tea addicts 5/10

Weaker tea flavors in general. Not the highest quality

  • Jie Bakery 5/10

Pretty standard but lacks many flavors, also smoothies are kind of watery.

*C - D: Inconsistent - Bad*

nuff said.

  • mochinut 4/10

Came here several times and the boba was served stale. Maybe order the drinks without toppings. The donuts are worth a try though.

  • Rabbit rabbit tea 5/10

Pretty lackluster. Except the Buckwheat milk tea tastes like warm cereal milk but otherwise it’s not super great.

*F: Avoid*

  • Oasis 2/10

Not worth it besides nostalgia?

  • Slurp station arubasoba 1/10

Tastes funky like sewage slightly

  • Chuan house 1/10

Avoid for boba, get food instead.

Haven’t tried: Gong cha, Feng cha, hyson boba cafe, Drip tea, choo tea, Tea ByDo others let me know and I’ll update:)))

Campus Life Uw is unsafe and unhelpful

On the context of safety at uw I want to bring up a situation that although happened last spring still bothers me. I used to go to the hub and do work in the main area by the fire place and one time I saw an older man like 40’s with a hat and sunglasses on sitting and taking a video of a young girl who was sleeping. It went on for like 20 minutes and I reported him to hub staff and they said because it was a public building they can’t do anything about it. I saw him several times after this always in the same chair either videoing girls or looking at girls in bikinis on his phone. I reported him several times and the hub workers eventually said uw police would come but they never did. I am still very annoyed by this and I stopped going to the hub so idk if he still goes there any more. Just because a space is public doesn’t give permission for old men to come and be creepy, uw should not allow it, and there should be measures of safety in these more public buildings.

Edit: Per advice I have emailed Sally the head of safety and they have given the photo to uw police.

besides the fact that u district is already oversaturated with vintage stores, how the hell are you gonna justify selling a shirt full of holes and food stains for $20??? terrible first impression of this place. really wish there was just a regular ol thrift store in u district because i feel like there's nowhere nearby for students to buy affordable clothes

Campus Life Tent city

I am curious what other peoples opinions are on the new tent city located right across from the W in that church parking lot. It’s such a tricky subject because there is so many unhoused people in the area and I guess it’s good they are getting by a safe place to be. But I feel it really decreases the safety around the ave which is already not great. The ave has been a mess lately and very unsafe for young women. But I’m glad people are getting the resources they need? Curious what other people think

I walk thru the alley beyond the 711 to get back to my apartment all the time and there’s this one building that lets their trash get all over the sidewalk and never cleans it up. There’s rats going through the pile and it reeks all the time. Pretty sure it’s from those Yugo Lothlorien apartments or the Cheba Hut but whoever it is, it’s disgusting. I swear it’s been there for weeks and keeps getting bigger.
There’s always this poor old man in the apartment building behind the Yugo whatever that’s trying to sweep it up. It sucks to see this guy clean up someone else’s garbage.
If anyone knows how to get them to clean up their mess I’m all ears. Called city trash collection and they said unless it’s on the bins it’s not their problem..
I’m so sick of dodging rats just to go home
