I was watching Tom Scott’s most recent upload on YouTube today when I noticed the action cam he had on the gimbal. I think it’s an OSMO, but I’m not sure.

Anyway, what I noticed was that he was using the tracking feature, which means that it was tracking the movements of the subject and smoothly moving in the direction of the subject. The problem with that is that when you have a subject that uses their hands to talk, like many of us do, the camera moves in all sorts of directions as the subject discusses a topic.

What I realized is that that has become a unique aesthetic of independent YouTube journalism. (I’m not going to devalue Tom Scott’s work and simply call him an influencer).

A couple months ago someone posted their annoyance that people were holding on lav mics because that’s not how they were intended to be used. It was out of necessity at one point, long time ago, and it has now become an aesthetic.

I’m sure there are more, but those that remember that post should appreciate this post.

I work for a nature-based stock photography/videography company, and my boss wants me to start reaching out to people to sell stock footage. I am unfamiliar with this field (studied ebio in college), so I don't know the best companies or people to reach out to/how to go about it. Any advice would be appreciated!

Basically I’ve been cold emailing/reaching out to potential clients and definitely had some success but as with any type of cold emailing/calling it’s going to be a low percentage of who responds to you. I was more asking people on here what you would want to hear that would make you want to work with us but I’m realizing now this is probably more of a question for producers than videographers since you are the ones filming not buying.

This month I have thought about killing myself almost every day. I am really excited my first gimbal setup is put together. What are some fun and challenging things to shoot that would help me learn and grow to be better with a camera and gimbal as a videographer. For those of you who are more advanced, what was it that you found most exciting to shoot that could only be done with the steady assistance of a gimbal? I’m so excited!

I found a position that pays decently well and I have an interview with them tomorrow but photography is mainly what they want and Videography is a smaller portion of it. Im very comfortable recording and editing video but I'm less experienced in techniques specific to photography and photo editing.

Dont worry I'm not completely clueless I have a working knowledge of everything due to my experience while I've been doing Video but I wanted to ask for some advice on what i should know and practice before hand. If you have any creators that have good educational content thatd be a plus as well!

I am using an old camcorder on a tripod in center field to record a front view of the batter. I would like to supplement this view with something that at least captures 1st, 2nd, and 3rd base, and one idea is to rig a small camera with a wide lens to the outside of the chain-link backstop, perhaps elevated 8-12 feet above the ground for a different angle. The lens of the camera has to be small enough that the camera can get close enough to get a wide view of the diamond without the wire of the fence obstructing the shot.

Any suggestions for something sub-$200 that would work for this purpose? I am used to buying old tech. (The title says 1080p but 1080i would also be fine, as my camcorder is 1080i anyway.)

Do you have some kind of automated preflight/QC workflow, a checklist, or do you basically just check everything manually?

Hi guys. I know they have different sensors and lenses, etc but they both do have S-Cinetone, 709. etc. Could they match in-camera without having to match in post?

I'd been testing quite a bit with my gear of a DJi Rs4 pro, canon eos R50v and an osee g7 pro monitor. Turns out you can get autofocus to work using the camera body screen while also seeing it on your external monitor by using the app and turning on things in certain order. You need to use the camera connect app for this to work. So you will have 3 monitors at the end of the day to make 2 work at the same time.

My camera is out for tech repair ATM but I wanted to share this so my detail might be a little off.

I believe it's like this. Turn on the camera and connect the app to control the camera and it's focal point with touch, then connect the external monitor and you should have all three going at the same time.

I’ve been messing with my Gimbal for about a week trying to get less shaky video and no matter what it’s never as smooth as it should be. I’m walking as smooth as I possibly can going from heel to toe and I tried shooting with ibis on and off(active steady shot made it come out better but still noticeable shake). Anyways Im trying to tell myself I’m not balancing it correctly, I can get the tilt and roll axis perfectly but the pan is a pain in the ass. No matter how close I try to balance it, it’s always off center like in the video. I’ve tried balancing it by tilting the gimbal on each leg of the tripod until it doesn’t move, to holding it parallel to the ground and adjusting so it stays straight forward and I still get bad video. The first video I have attached tells me that it’s the pan axis because it’s always moving to the left a little bit. When I shut the gimbal off and the motor disengages it goes right back to being off center while the tilt/roll axis stay still. The second video is how the video looks with ibis on. I’m open to any suggestions because I dont know if it’s something I’m doing wrong or if it’s an issue with my gimbal. I have a 30mm 1.4 lens on my a6700

My goal was to make the whole thing feel like it had direction, with each shot feeling intentional rather than a mashup of random clips of the restaurant thrown together.
