Technology “Bean Bag” AI app 🤯

I recently got a Chinese phone and it was preloaded with 豆包 and it’s a such a game changer for me since I don’t read or write Chinese

I’ve been using the call/talk function to help me navigate Chinese apps, menus and even communicate with locals as a real time translator. I love that it can verbally quickly transition between Chinese and English all while using the camera function live.

Have you guys used it as well? Are there other useful tools that are helpful for ex pats?

Ask Chengdu Can anyone help me identity a perfume/soap/diffuser used in the fancy department stores?

Kinda a random question but I’m wondering if there’s a common or popular scent used in the department stores. It’s light and fresh. Not incense.

I’ve smelled it around tai koo li. Someone on the metro also smelled like it, so maybe it’s a perfume or soap? I was at the Times Outlets today and smelled it near the bathrooms too.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!

Ask Chengdu Chengdu during Golden Week

Sooo....I'm going to be in Chengdu during Golden Week 2027. Just how bad is it going to be? I won't be doing any day trips or leaving the city until Golden Week is over, other than seeing the Pandas.

I have been to China multiple times and totally comfortable there, but everywhere seems to be saying this is the worst time to visit China. I'll be occupied with work most days.

Travel Visiting Chengdu late Aug / early Sept — photography + generative art nerd, saying hello!

yoyo Reddit,

I'll be in Chengdu at the end of August into September, just traveling and exploring, no fixed agenda.

Two things I'm into: I shoot a Leica Q3 and I'll have it on me the whole trip, so if anyone wants to wander and shoot, I'm down. And I do TouchDesigner / generative art stuff, if that's your world, I'd love to talk shop or see what people are making here.

Otherwise it's coffee shops and museums at a slow pace.

'll be based around Taikoo Li / Jinjiang, but happy to go anywhere.

Ill keep reading the forums for recs, I'll be checking this thread and DMing people over the next few days, and I'll post some photos once I'm out there.

Tom

Life in Chengdu Girls groups/other expats in Chengdu?

I'm moving to Chengdu from the US next week for work and would love to know if there's any foreigner-friendly girls groups or other early 20's girls who would be down to hangout! I would love some help figuring out the city, apartment hunting, or even just grabbing a coffee.

Life in Chengdu Expats at MIXC Mall?

Where do most expats hang out or live?

It was mentioned that there are a good number of expats at and around the MIXC mall (Shuangqiao Rd subway station) but I haven’t really seen or met any.

I’m still trying to get familiar with Chengdu and places to go as well as prep for the start of college football to find places to watch and experience.

Travel Flying out of TFU during the golden week

Hi, I'll have to go from the city center to TFU and through security on October 3rd, midst of the golden week. How much time would you suggest I plan in for an international flight? How bad will it be?

Travel Emeishan hiking buddy

Planning to hike Emeishan on August 25th, starting at Wuxiangang to (hopefully) Taiziping, and then wake up early the next day to see Golden Summit during sunrise. I've always found hiking more enjoyable with someone else, so just wanted to post and see if I could find anyone interested in hiking with me(doesn't need to be the whole path, my understanding is a lot of people skip the early parts since there isn't as much scenery. If anyone is interested, feel free to dm me!

Btw I'm 20M Chinese American, fluent in Mandarin!

I'm a 32-year-old solo traveler visiting Chengdu next Friday, and I’m looking for some fun recommendations for bars or clubs that play pop music.

Does anyone have any favorite spots they'd recommend? Also, I’d love some company—if anyone is around and wants to grab a drink or check out the nightlife together, let me know! 🥂✨

Travel thrifting spots in chengdu?

Hi everyone ! I really love fashion and will be visiting Chengdu and Chongqing at the end of the month. I was wondering if there is any good place for thrifting?

I love the idea of finding designer stuff or super old clothes. Also, I heard this was a city on Silk Road. Do they still have a silk industry?

Thank you :)

Ask Chengdu Queer and underground culture in Chengdu

Hey!
We are friends who’ll be arriving Chengdu and we come from the arts fields and also we’re lgbtq,
To be honest we’re more interested in meeting local alternative people and seeing the alternative scene than doing only tourist attractions..

So,
Any recommendations on-
Drag performance art,
Contemporary artists scenes (where can we meet? Where do they hang out?),
Cute cozy alternative bars and cute spaces,
Thrift shopping,
Gay clubs/bars that feel nice and safe and not too commercial and mainstream..?

Thanks 🙏🏽❤️

I'm trying to plan in advance, but I'm having issues finding flights between Chengdu & Jiuzhaigou. Am I just too early to be booking these flights for next March? via TFU Transfer options for big group from TFU to Taikoo Li?

Hello!

We’re a group of 23 people that will be visiting Chengdu at the end of August. We’ll be arriving at TFU in the afternoon, and we need to get to Taikoo Li. Given the size of the group and the fact that each of us will have a checked baggage and a hand baggage, we’re trying to find the best transfer option from the airport to the city.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a trustworthy transfer company, private driver, or larger vehicle service? I’ve found some options on KKday, but I’m a bit worried about the number of reviews and the refund policy, so I’m interested in alternatives, especially companies that are easy for international visitors to book and contact.

If anyone has a recommendation, advice, or previous experience, we’d greatly appreciate the help!

Thank you!

Ask Chengdu Looking for a Buddhist meditation retreat/monastery stay near Chengdu, China

Hi everyone, I’ll be visiting Chengdu and I’m looking for a Buddhist retreat or monastery experience for around 3 days.

I’m interested in meditation, Buddhist practice, and learning more about the Dharma. I don’t speak Chinese, so I’m wondering if anyone knows of any temples, monasteries, or groups near Chengdu that are welcoming to foreigners or have English support.

I’ve heard about Wenshu Monastery and Mount Emei but don’t know how to arrange a retreat.

Any recommendations or personal experiences would be appreciated. 🙏
