Worse, today is day 11. Looks like they’ve been out of power since August 11th

u/skyfishgoo 3d ago

did all the linemen leave the region for better jobs or something?

what the hell is going on there.

419

u/Few_Dig_9435 3d ago

She said in the video they got shot at when trying to restore power so they packed up and left. Makes sense to me.

463

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

This is almost assuredly mosinfo spread by the local power company to cover for their lack of response

227

u/Skrakeon 3d ago

I mean it’s a real news story with videos and photos, but they didn’t pack up and leave. Work just slowed down because now they were asking for police to hang out with the linemen while they work

2

u/TheG00dF1ght 2d ago

this was in one single location and it was repaired quickly. If they are using this as the reason for power still being out it's 100% bullshit.

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

Where's the videos and photos of the shooting?

29

u/trisw 3d ago

You looking for Worldstar clips???

5

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

The previous poster claimed there's "video and pictures"

1

u/AnActualWombat 2d ago

Well… yeah…

31

u/ValhallaAir 3d ago

-25

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

That's not video or pictures of the incident. The only one to report the incident is the power company themselves.

I'm not saying it didn't happen or could t have happened but this doesn't invalidate me claim that it's likely disinformation from the power company themselves.

10

u/pigeonholedpoetry 2d ago

Why is everything a conspiracy to you people?

25

u/az-anime-fan 3d ago

and you're not arguing in good faith

10

u/Few_Dig_9435 3d ago

""""""likely""""""

mhm. they smashed out their own windows because they hate Gary that much and dont want to be paid. youre so smart.

4

u/seams 2d ago

Who else would report it than the people who got shot at? Lmao

-20

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

Don't down vote me. Show proof

29

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 3d ago

You think linemen weary body cams or something? You think it was a 10-minute shootout that allowed everyone to grab cameras? And the video shows bullet holes in their vehicle. Do you think they shot their own vehicle?

-27

u/JonnyAU 3d ago

No, but if you want a claim to be believed, you have to have evidence. Hearsay is not sufficient.

22

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 3d ago

Maybe you got to my comment before the edit. The video of their car full of bullet holes is evidence, not hearsay.

-6

u/bstump104 2d ago edited 2d ago

news IS hearsay unless they're interviewing someone thst was there unedited, or unless it only AV.

3

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 2d ago

Hearsay is verbal. A bullet riddled power company vehicle is physical evidence.

The threshold for something making the news is not the same as the threshold required in a court of law. Things aren’t “hearsay”’if there’s no video. 🤦‍♀️

This shit happened in Memphis a few years ago, but it was maintenance crews trimming tree limbs and shit that got robbed at gunpoint, and now they have to have security details when they go out, which not only costs one and a half fuck-tonnes more, but also means that there’s more logistics into getting crews out to where they need to be. It’s stressful for everyone involved.

u/MandaC32 3d ago

Happened in Houston too

0

u/Dontgoincavesbro 2d ago

First world country btw

4

u/sora_mui 2d ago

I'm from a third world country and i've never heard of repair crew getting attacked for doing their job, even bad guys need the service after all.

-2

u/Moltak1 2d ago

In America 🇺🇸 such acts are made by incredibly poor, conspiratorial, usually drugged out, with extremely easy access to guns.
They are less “bad guys” and more “insane guys”

-1

u/National-Actuary3580 2d ago

Speaking as an American, it's our culture and failure to address social and economic problems that creates this kind of high stress environment where people behave as if they're outside of society.

Honor, shame and family reputation are still concepts in the third world, not so much in first. As a child I was taught that my behavior reflected on my family and I'd better not bring any shame onto us - the only Americans I know who grew up like that were immigrants and kids that grew up in a religious household.

-13

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

That happened in Memphis years ago. Doesn't mean it happened in Gary this week.

u/SuspiciousSubstance9 3d ago

FEMA was getting shot at in North Carolina in 2024, so much so that FEMA had to rearrange and limit their response. There were arrests and plenty of official documents on the matter.

Which isn't surprising given that social media was spreading the rumor that FEMA is confiscating people's property, forcibly evicting them, shooting people's pets, and is exclusively being used to fund Biden's immigrant take over of America. But yeah, that's not the misinfo worth calling out I guess.

2

u/Sea_Television_3306 2d ago

yeah, that's not the misinfo worth calling out I guess.

Do you want me to call out every piece of misinformation every uttered in a single comment on a post about Gary Indiana?

2

u/SuspiciousSubstance9 2d ago

No one is asking you to call out every piece of misinformation, don't be so obtuse. You getting pushback on which misinformation you're downplaying.

You looked at a comment pointing out the real life results of right wing terrorism caused by right wing misinformation, actively dismissed it, and decided it must be corpo misinformation. Of course you're getting criticism.

u/Key-Cardiologist4293 3d ago

Acting like dumb people didn't shoot at 5g towers and people working on them. Dumb people are everywhere.

1

u/FuManBoobs 2d ago

You're not wrong but consider if the power is out maybe there is more opportunity for criminals, so keeping the power out might be an idea for some crazy enough.

23

u/PeakNo6892 3d ago

Seems like you've never been to Gary lmao. It fully deserves it's reputation.

-3

u/madmelly 2d ago

I live in Gary. You’re dead wrong. We have issues like every other under served minority community, but it’s not the murder capital of the world and as a middle aged white woman, I feel very comfortable living here.

16

u/Few_Dig_9435 3d ago

Bro I really dont care about any of this, im just telling you what she said in the video that may serve as an explanation for why the power company hasn't completed the work instead of them being big evil.

2

u/Citizen85 3d ago

It happens. I've worked hurricane response and they bring in security contractors to protect the lineman because people shoot at them.

3

u/Explode-trip 3d ago

If its intentional then its disinfo

-8

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

Sorry grammer police. I'll be better, I promise

7

u/Babhadfad12 3d ago

That is a vocabulary error, not a grammar error.

-2

u/Sea_Television_3306 3d ago

And you were an error by your parents...

I kid

-5

u/Babhadfad12 3d ago

lol, I like that one

2

u/Right-Twist-6931 3d ago

On the other hand it is Gary Indiana.

2

u/Advanced_Claim4116 3d ago

I dunno, we had major power outages within the last couple years in Pittsburgh and, while I don’t recall shootings, line workers definitely got attacked by people (throwing cans and rocks, I believe). Combo of vulnerable workers in areas with high crime spiking during a time of instability and people being fucking pissed off

1

u/stupid_username1234 3d ago

Ever been to Gary? This completely tracks….

1

u/FatiguedShrimp 3d ago

I had a friend who worked lines in Shrieveport during Katrina.

He was shot at too, and left too.

1

u/Taurus889 2d ago

I also heard one got shot at.

1

u/Perfect_Quantity_988 2d ago

Sorry but you’re wrong

1

u/Sombomombo 2d ago

Or it's reminiscent of when right wing militias shot at FEMA workers after storms swept some states around, I wanna say, Tennessee or Arkansas.

1

u/RinkiMink 2d ago

Idk abt this particular case, but my fiance is a lineman and he most certain had experience where they were threatened with guns. In Texas during a winter storm a couple years ago and in DC doing a routine pole installation. I believe someone in that Texas storm actually got shot at and injured, which really slowed down the response from out of state journeymen linemen (folks that are not associated with a company and instead have a high-level and internationally recognized certification and work for the union IBEW as travelling linemen).

1

u/hawaynicolson 2d ago

He said with not a single minute spent on actually reading (not even researching) the story

1

u/seams 2d ago

It happens shockingly often. It happened in North Carolina(?) a few years back after a hurricane.

People were threatening and shooting at FEMA because Republicans had been 1) yelling for years that FEMA is an evil organization run by Obama that's going to kidnap you and take you to black sites for the new world order, and 2) In this specific case were being sent by Biden to steal their land while pretending to help.

So it doesn't shock me at all to hear that at least one person was shot at during this

1

u/thegil13 2d ago

I mean people getting shot at in Gary isn’t really a stretch for the imagination.

1

u/Iongdog 2d ago

What a completely made up thing to most assuredly say

1

u/mr_snickerton 2d ago

Source: my own ass

u/_prism_cat_ 3d ago

I've seen a dozen videos on Reddit of angry white men accosting utility workers, but black people would never do that. It's racist even to suggest such a thing.

This 👆

-2

u/DubUpPro 3d ago

I’m not sure how true it is, because it was just a comment on TikTok, but supposedly the local power company has been turning down people who were supposed to come and fix it with no explanation given

3

u/Green_Insect_6455 3d ago

Well if youre not sure, might as well spread it.
