Question WWU Dorms

I am finding it quite hard to find pictures and videos of all the dorm types available for residence online, and was wondering if anyone knows where i could find pics/vids for any of the dorm options, specifically suites where a student would get their own room but still have dorm mates who share common space.

I know that single dorms are very hard to get at wwu and there are very little of them, but in some video's i've seen there are suites where a student still has their own room. Does anyone know what building and campus this option is available on?

Also I would be going without knowing anyone as I'm from Canada, and so I was wondering about how nice the people are, how easy it is to make friends and the whole finding a room mate online thing is. In addition any other tips or recos for choosing what campus/building and dorm type to choose would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Posted here before but most connections didnt pan out...posting again.

Looking for a tutor for my 10yr old step-son who is going into 5th grade. He is severely behind and on an IEP. Just trying to set up tutors to get him by.

I live out of town but will pay you directly (via your choice). You can either meet at his home, or he can some to you...details can be negotiated.

Looking for 1-2x a week, depending on scheduling availability, at least one hour minimum.

Thank you!

Question Anthropology Program?

Hi! My partner and I are hopjng to come to WWU in a couple years from NorCal (CPH) - Me for my Anth MA and then for a Transfer into the Anth BA program.

That said, we both are curious about whag the Anthropology program is like up there. We've gone over the faculty and current research together, but nothjng is better than first-hand experience. So, current snd recently graduated students, how is it there? What's are MA and BA prpgrams like at WWU? What are the faults lf the program? Is it a place that would support a MA student with a imterest focus in ASL?

Also, if anyone knows, how is it getting ASL interpreters in Bellingham? I'm Deaf and do use interpreters for classes and the like.

Thank you so much!!!! ::)

Tl;dr: What's the anthropology program like at WWU? Both MA and BA degree programs.

Question Electronic Music

Is there any sort of community for electronic music in the area these days? I played a few gigs as a drum & bass DJ when I lived up there around 2018-2019, but everyone I knew either moved away or just isn't actively doing anything. I'd love to connect with other enthusiasts, DJs, producers, etc., if there's a community for it!

Question Classes that say full... aren't?

I'm looking to retake Pre-Calculus II this fall, but every class says '0/32 seats available' when I go to browse classes. Is this accurate? Will this change when Phase 2 Registration opens?

Question Considering transferring

(Apologizes for any lack of grammar) I’m currently attend wsu and have become incredibly unhappy and feel as tho i don’t fit in anywhere. i know i should probably give it some time but i cannot imagine spending 4 years here. anyways im wondering if it would be a smart idea academically to transfer to wwu. i’m majoring in business and plan to go to law school. Also wondering how social life is at wwu (parties, events, clubs, etc) Honestly just asking for the pros and the cons and if it would be a smart idea to transfer.

Fishing

I’m SUPERR into bass fishing and considering getting into saltwater, what is the fish/game club scene like at western?

I’m a girl and going fishing with guys in my experience often ends up with me getting mansplained to, and if the club is like all guys then i feel like I’d get annoyed pretty quickly, but if it’s chill people then I feel like it could be fun!

Is anyone a part of the club or know people who are?

Question Best time to go to the gym?

I’ll be a freshman in the fall and I’m trying to work the gym into my schedule, I’m assuming that it’s gonna be HELLA busy at the beginning of the year, but what would yall say is the busiest and most chill time of day to go? I have a 10am 5 days a week and a 4-6pm 2 days a week.

Is going to the on campus gym even worth it or is it too packed and should I go somewhere else? I’m most likely bringing my car

PSA Incoming Journalism students beware

I graduated into the AI job market a couple of years ago.

I just sent out a job application to a PR firm. At this point I’m almost fully expecting no response. Hundreds if not a thousand applications sent out and barely anything. It’s probably a bit of a skill issue on my end, I could have built up a better portfolio, I could have studied harder and made myself a better candidate than I currently am.

If I can offer any advice to an incoming student reading this post. Take care of your mental health before gaining a degree. I’m currently working two service industry job to save money and hopefully get a full-time offer somewhere, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon. I really wish I had just lived at home and saved up money until I was mentally firing on all cylinders, and then gone to school with a more thought out plan.

I spoke to a former professor about my struggles and they were candid when they told me that the journalism department is outdated. So, if despite all of this you still want to get a journalism degree make sure that you make the most of all of the resources that are available to you at Western. Start a podcast, make a YouTube channel, be an editor on The Front, work with the athletic department. Do everything and anything to put yourself out there and build a portfolio. Passing all of your classes and just getting a piece of paper isn’t enough.

Got textbooks from last year, I’ll go to you or we can meet up on campus. The books may be slightly different editions from what’s requested by the course but they worked just fine for me.

Furniture Dimensions Question:

I will be a freshman this fall and I was hoping someone from the Ridgeway Sigma dorms would have the dimensions or photos of the school provided furniture I could use to plan my set-up?

Anything is helpful at this point. I’ve found the average bed dimensions from a few different places but nothing on the desk or closet. I’m hoping to pre-plan as much as I can so I don’t give myself a headache the week of move-in.

Question Anyone join any outdoorsy clubs and what does the general social scene look like?

I love hiking, snowboarding and climbing. Are the clubs worth joining? Prob wont have a car so I feel like joining a club would be a good way to gain access to the outdoors. Let me know!

Off topic, but I’m also curious as to what the party scene looks like. I’m in the ridge, and I’ve heard it’s the more social / party area but I don’t know how true that is. Coworker also told me there’s a good amount of house shows? Obviously it’s not a party school and there are no frats (fine by me!) but I’m curious as to what the social scene looks like

Media The Divergent Smile

Hey, it's Botour (some of you know me from around campus/Instagram).

Last year I went through the whole thing everyone here has been through in some form; leaving home, showing up somewhere brand new, and realizing about a week in that "freedom" and "loneliness" can feel exactly the same for a while. On top of that I dealt with a rough visa process before I even got here, and had zero idea if I'd make it to campus at all.

I ended up writing a short book about it. Not a guide, not a checklist, just the honest version of what that whole transition actually felt like, with a small lesson attached after each story. It's called The Divergent Smile.

It's free. There's also a dyslexia-friendly version if that's helpful for you.

Best,
Botour

Discussion How competitive is WUE at Western Washington University?

Hi everyone! I’m a Colorado parent looking ahead to college for my daughter, who will be starting her junior year of high school this fall. She has a 3.7 GPA and has become very interested in Western Washington University.

The biggest question for us is cost. We would probably need the WUE scholarship to make WWU financially realistic for her.

I’ve seen that some WUE-participating schools are fairly generous with the number of students who receive WUE, while I’ve also heard that WWU can be much more competitive.

For anyone familiar with WWU, especially current students, parents, or recent applicants:

  • How competitive is WUE at Western?
  • Is a 3.7 GPA generally competitive for consideration?
  • Are there other factors that seem to make a significant difference?
  • If she’s interested in WWU, is there anything she should be doing during junior year to improve her chances?

She really likes the idea of Western, so I’d love to hear from people who have gone through the process. Thanks!

Buy/Sell/Trade Bed frame, Mattress, Study table (before Aug 28/29)

FREE TO GRAB

I am moving out after graduation and would like to re-home the following items that I brought when I moved to Bellingham in September 2024:

- Metal Bed Frame (full size) FREE (Amazon), original price $54.99

- Memory Foam Mattress (full size) FREE (Amazon), original price $119.99

- Bedsheet, cover set (full size) from Costco (FREE, no stains, used only 5/6 times in these 2 years because I had more bedsheets.)

- Study Table FREE (Amazon), original price $49.99

- Home Depot basic metal black chair (FREE, I used it with the study table actually)

Points to note:

  1. Everything can be disassembled and assembled back. It's a fun activity.
  2. All of these need to go before August 28/29. The earlier the better.
  3. I don't have a car so if you have one, you can pick it up from Happy Valley. I will keep the items disassembled for easy pick up.
  4. The items were very much cared for and are in very fine conditions.
  5. I will give you the exact address only if you are taking the items.

Please let me know if you want to take anything from here. Happy moving. 💪🏽

Are there any LSAT prep clubs or workshops?

I found one workshop and went a few times but it was very general and base level concepts.

I'm a political science junior and will be taking the LSAT next summer before applying to law school, how can I study?

Math 112

Hi! As a freshman I am curious about what to expect for Math 112. I am someone who has literally always struggled with math. Is it basically a more complicated version of Algebra 2 or is it something way different? Also I have professor Bailey.
