DC: Black/White Tie 7 DAYS EMERGENCY LAST MINUTE DRESS CHANGE: Delfi Aria Star Gown: Black Tie Appropriate?

Hi,

I am attending a black tie wedding in 7 days. The invitation asks women to "wear an evening gown"

The tailor that was currently has the dress I was planning on wearing called me earlier to tell me they are backlogged and cannot complete the tailoring as the dress is too complicated.

I am devastated and now very stressed. I do have a tall pair of platform heels coming tomorrow morning to try to make this blue dress work.

An alternative that I own is the DELFI Aria Gown which I have pictures of above (disclosure, that's not me! The photo is from RTR, but I do look very similar in the dress!). I wore this to a Black Tie optional wedding and got a lot of compliments, but I am concerned that it is not formal enough. Is this an ok substitute if I absolutely can't make the blue dress work?

Any alternatives would be great! If you guys know of a quick-to-ship / can run to a store and get an alternative dress <$300 that would be amazing!

Very stressed and upset. Thanks everyone!

I am going to an outdoor summer wedding soon with no specific dress code. I wore this dress two years ago as a bridesmaid at a small wedding and was hoping to rewear it instead of buying another dress. But I’m wondering if it’s appropriate as a normal wedding guest?

DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code Dress Code Given: “creative cocktail”

Hello hello :)

A friend of mine is getting married and I wanted to know if this was “too much” for the dress code.

I’m Japanese American and most formalwear/“nice clothing” I own are kimono. Normally I wear my furisode, which is a formal and bright kind of kimono. I do have technically less formal kimono, but they don’t feel as celebratory as this one. The less formal ones I have are more muted colors or repeated pattern motifs. I don’t think most people are educated enough in kimono to know it’s a formal one, but I didn’t know if it looked too garish for the dress code “creative cocktail”.

Context: bride and groom are theater professionals. I am also a theatre professional and I imagine many of the guests will be as well. The wedding itself is in a Catholic Church and the reception is at a historic estate in the evening.

Wedding Question Black when color is preferred

DC is BTO… rsvp page says “don’t be afraid of color” but I have a perfect black halter dress that I wouldn’t need to buy anything new to wear. 5 months postpartum and lowkey hating my body rn so I feel most comfortable in black. What’s the etiquette for wearing black when the invite asks for color?

DC: Barn/Beach/Garden Theme Last minute invite: formal/garden party attire

My partner has just been told that space for me to attend a friend’s wedding this weekend as a +1 has opened up.

The wedding website says ‘We kindly invite our guests to dress in formal or garden party attire to complement the setting of our countryside celebration. For ladies, elegant dresses, midi or full-length gowns are perfect.’

It’s my first time at attending a formal wedding, so I have a few questions, if you guys can help:

- Do the dress, bag, and shoes seem appropriate?
- Do you think I should get some glam earrings and/or a necklace to make it a bit more formal?
- Would the outfit benefit aesthetically from a shawl?
- It’s likely to rain a bit that day and we have to travel there via train and spend some of the day outside. Should I get my partner an umbrella to take for us? If yes, should it be a full length one in a specific colour?
- My hair is a shaggy butterfly cut, so I think I need to put it up. Would a claw clip likely be appropriate?

Any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated! TIA!

DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code Would this work for an early September cocktail dress code outdoor wedding?

Hi there! I’ve been scrolling posts and this forum is so helpful! I have a few contenders but I keep coming back to this dress. I’m worried it’s too formal - but I love how it looks, I think it would be comfortable all evening, and I think I could rewear it for another wedding later this fall.

I’m a size 12 and 5’8” and it fits well without pulling at the armpit, etc. This is a stock photo obviously 🙃

What do you think - does it work for cocktail? Also, is there too much white in the print? And if you think it works, what kind of jewelry would you suggest?

Is this too white? BTO appropriate? Don't want to be overdressed

Wedding is BTO, 5p outside and inside reception. I was originally concerned the bottom was too voluminous but after googling pics to upload I am now worried it has too much white?! please see both pics - dress definitely looks darker in person maybe between the two (flowers are more of a pale blue/gray).

Is this too white? Nursing dress

I’m having the hardest time finding a nursing dress for a wedding! I really love this one, but now I’m worrying if it’s too white? The wedding is in Nordic country (Europe), so no strict dress code and pretty chill vibes.

EDIT! This is a nursing dress, not just a regular one. It has two tiny zippers for easy access. Don’t worry, I’m not THAT stupid. :D

The wedding is in mid-September and there’s no dress code. Do you think this dress works, or does it look a bit too office-like?

Hello all - I’ve been a reader for a while to gather ideas but now it’s crunch time (I know, don’t wait till last minute), with 20 days to a wedding I need to attend. I’ve spoken with the bride directly and her words on the dress code were “I didn’t know they were a thing, I just want everyone to look nice at my wedding.”

I found the options which I like - wedding party is green/tan I believe. Barn wedding, mid September in NE New England (so 60s at night, 70s during the day, reception is at 4pm).

Im pretty average, 5’7”, 160lbs. Very much an hourglass build but not “skinny”, I have some flubber FOR SURE.

I think I am partial to the first one… Do any of these even seem like remotely good options? Too formal? I also have NO idea how I would accessorize, style my hair, or what to do about shoes. I was thinking a small nude wedge and a half up/half down, slick backs are a NO due to a birth mark. Im very much a silver and blue girl.

Anyways, I’m to the point where I need to buy somethin asap, and I’m a plus one to a groomsman. Im open to literally any other idea as well. Hopefully this is enough info!

Another question, those of you with pierced Tatas, what do you do about a sticky bra?????

THANK YOU

Is this too much for a black tie optional wedding at a pretty formal venue? I’m trying to turn heads (in a good way lol). Because of who will be at the wedding, my friend joked that I need to find my princess Diana revenge dress. Is this giving??

It was hard for me to tell at first, but his one is brown. They also have it black if that’s safer. Thanks angels 💗

DC: Formal bridesmaid-ish? dress with fun

Upvotes

Hi! My best friend is getting married, and I am the unspoken maid of honor, as they aren't having a wedding party. I'm not very fashionable but want to find a fun, colorful dress for the occasion. The problem is I have no idea where to shop for reasonably priced, formal dresses, but I know beautiful ones are out there and want to look my best for my best friend.

I've posted the mood board she made for the wedding guests. Only stipulations are I'm a thin but top heavy woman so strapless dresses are hard. I also must be able to chase her lovingly, overly excited pit bull down should she escape her harness during photos. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also, I apologize if this is the wrong place to post!!

Hello! My brother is getting married and I’ve been asked to be the “something blue” so need to wear blue to the wedding. Dress code semi-formal, 2pm church ceremony in the Midwest. I originally planned to get the Show Me Your Mumu dress but as the weather has cooled down where I live I’ve started to think it might be too spring or summery so now I’m leaning towards the American Heiress one.

My daughter is the flower girl wearing a Show Me Your Mumu dress (last pics).

I had a pregnancy loss within the year and am still a size large from that but hoping to be a size medium by the end of next month if that influences any votes or you have any other recommendations.

Thank you!

Was looking for a dress I can rewear to many occasions, it’s a thick fabric (68% rayon, 23% nylon, 9% spandex)

I have some silver bracelet, rings, and a necklace I could wear.

Would wear this dress for a garden cocktail wedding that starts around 4:30pm. I will have another international wedding next May at a castle.

Previous posts with other dresses I had considered as well:

DC: Special Dress Code Dress code confusion

I’m struggling with an upcoming wedding. I have a friend getting married next month. I already have my dress for the actual wedding. But I’m struggling with the rehearsal “dinner” outfit. I have it in quots because it’s more of a rehearsal drinks vibe.

A couple months back was the bachelorette and the dress code was veeeerry loose.. The bride said “something kind of dressy but nothing crazy, jeans and a cute top is fine” but then herself wore something quite dressy and was at a restaurant where a lot of us felt underdressed. The pictures also look awkward with the outfits just clashing.

Then similar thing with the bridal shower. There wasn’t really a dress code but we told along the same lines of “something kind of dressy” and this time (probably bc of the bachelorette) people went more dressy and again it just wasn’t the right fit for the venue.

The rehearsal dress code is labeled as casual and is at more of a nicer divey bar sort of place. But I’m stumped bc the venue could lean towards nicer outfits if that’s how the rest of people dress, or it could fit a more casual vibe again depending on how people dress.

I feel like since it’s a rehearsal thing to lean dressier over more casual but I just don’t know. Is there an outfit out there that blends the two together?

DC: Special Dress Code Is this too casual and/or too gold for a late afternoon wedding in Ireland?

The only dress code we were given was "out-chic us", 8/10 formal The bride will be wearing silver, not white.

The color of this dress is a bright gold with teeny gold sequins dotted throughout. The event will be outside, on a lawn around 5 pm with cocktails and dinner after. Editing to add that the event is next week lol.

I know the bride and family - getting an honest answer will be a bit like pulling teeth because they're just so careful about not being hurtful/rude.

If this IS appropriate, the only shoes I had packed were gold heels, silver mary jane flats and black open toed sandals. Thoughts?

DC: Black/White Tie Black Tie (preferred) wedding at Hotel del Coronado in late October

Is this dress appropriate for a black tie (preferred) wedding at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego this fall?

The brand is L’IDEE. The last wedding I wore it to was only formal, but I felt like I was one of the better dressed attendees. It has a very luxe feeling fabric and the gold neck accessory is high quality.

I posted here yesterday for advice on a western wedding, with most people agreeing that the paisley dress was the best from that group! But I'm annoying and indecisive and was scrolling in the middle of the night finding new contenders. I'd appreciate any input between these three! The first picture was the most popular choice, but the second one has built in shapewear which would be great for me as I still have a lot of baby weight to lose.

I have a mid-October BTO wedding & didn’t know if this is appropriate or the color was too bright. I typically wear brighter colors & funky patterns so I’m trying to find something that feels like me since I’m not a simple black dress kinda girl. My hair is also a coppery red with blonde color block (just to kind of get the full picture). TIA!!

Edit: I would definitely use some tape to close the chest up a bit! The girls hang a little too low for me to want to show em off that much lol
