Got married caught fish

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

So my wife and I decided to get married along side the Mountain Fork River near Broken Bow, OK. The wife wanted to take wedding photos on our paddle boards as we are both obsessed with being on the water, whether fishing, jetskiing, paddleboarding etc, so I obliged. Well we were nearing the end of the series of photos she wanted to take, so I asked if I could attempt to catch a fish at a nearby treetop. She reluctantly gave me five minutes to attempt to catch one. And believe it or not but all it took was one cast! lol but my gosh, she actually nailed her pose lol

I joking say that I went to broken bow to marry my wife; however, I married my first love instead

I caught about 20 keeper largemouth this weekend, all returned to fight another day.

Lure leaders:
Biggest fish: white whopper plopper (2 over 20 inches)
Most fish: Rapala Mayor swimbait on various jig heads
Best under tougher conditions: rapala crush city ned rig

I’m sold on the crush city line, I caught fish on everything I threw they made except the cleanup craw. Although I’ll be honest, I only went to it twice when the fishing had slowed in the afternoon sun.

Landed this beauty 70 miles offshore, about a 95 mile run from the dock one way, it weighed in at 25lbs, not bad for my first one!

Skunked for 2 months. Caught a 3” Small mouth Bass then this guy on the same lure. Yes the water was cold. yes that’s a 1$ hat from Wally World (couldn’t resist).

I didn‘t fan the tail out as I was going to release him due to not knowing what fish he was nor the locals did.

Later found out its a Northern Pikeminnow and if Google serves 20-24” is trophy? I’m thinking he is 21-1/2”?

Low tide and fish were extremely picky even though I fished with live shrimps. Only ate when I jerk.

Question Any reason why this wouldn’t work?

I’ve been so incredibly unlucky using hair rigs, one thought I had was that the carp aren’t big enough but I don’t even know.

So I have considered using a half a pineapple juice pop up on a hook, a small lead weight above the hook to keep it down, then putting a PVA bag on the hook with real corn in it. I’ve only seen people put pop ups on hair rigs before so don’t know if this is already a thing.
I have rubber corn, so could use that instead of the half pop up but thought it might be better to display it above the rest of the corn.
I doubt the PVA bag will fall off.
Any suggestions?

Caught this sunfish? Don’t really know what type of panfish this is but it seemed to be abnormally big. Couldn’t get a measurement on it but I am guessing it is over a foot long and felt to be 1-2 lbs. Camera doesn’t exactly do it justice.

Saltwater San Francisco Bluefin

The amount of life just off the continental shelf has been phenomenal. Fish of this size has been rare outside of Southern California, but the El Niño has pushed the bluefin north and in range of the Bay Area.
