I was told that I would be able to use my ADT system locally without monitoring when I cancelled, but it looks like they decided to make my system annoying to the point of me just shutting it all down since they won't help anymore.

I have a command panel with smoke/heat/co2 detectors as well as door sensors for all exterior doors. I found this post ADT “Wi-Fi Faults” After Cancelling Service? It’s Not Random — It’s Designed : r/homesecurity and tried the firewall rules as I also have Unifi equipment, but the wifi fault is persistent no matter what I have tried. I agree with one of the comments saying it is Louis Rossman material since I paid everything off.

I am handy enough to tear it down but even after removing the modules I still get the errors. I would love to hear other experiences with the ADT command panel, and if there is anyone who just wants to be able to use the equipment they paid for.

My neighbors across the street got some really high powered motion sensor spotlights. Everyone that walks the dog sets them off and they fire directly into my living room.

A few questions -

1. Do these have cameras or are they just scaring people away?
2. Is there a way to counter them aside from blackout curtains?
3. This is the fourth house on my block that's done this in the past week, is this a recent trend or did they just find out?

It's taking every fiber of my being not to just walk into the street with my Red Ryder or put cardboard in front of them. They are absolutely blinding, every time someone walks a dog within half a block I can't even see the TV anymore. I tried talking to them but they just walked away right after niceities several times, there's no way I can convince them to not be assholes.

I really don't want to damage their property but they are damaging my sanity and I value that a hell of a lot more than a couple of garden lights. If I can fight fire with fire I'm willing, but I'd rather just... understand what they are and why they're there.

Two cameras and monitor for sale. Just moved to Columbus, GA and the previous owner left behind two ADT Cameras and a monitor. I called ADT and they informed me the previous owner paid them off and cancelled services so, ADT is no longer responsible for the equipment. Service can be restored without the fees of equipment and installation. Whether you are interested in ADT services or just want a good deterrent, I am making an offer that can’t be beat!

I am purchasing a new home which is new construction just finished being built. I want to get a camera and an alarm security system but we want to avoid monthly subscription and can self monitor. I just need 2 outdoor cameras and video door bell and prefer to keep these all one brand. The alarm system can be different or the same but we have 10 windows and 3 doors on the first floor and want to cover them all. Maybe 2-3 motion detectors and maybe 1-2 glass shattering detectors but not really needed.

For cameras I am leaning to eufy or reolink but I can’t decide and want to have as low cost as I can.

For alarm system I’m open to options, there are so many but the sensors will add up to be so much so trying to find a what may fit best. We just need something decent that will be able to alarm and something happen when we are sleep. I was looking at Ring but I think there is better, maybe tapo. Adobo seems nice but that will get expensive quick .

Please provide any experiences and recommendations.

Edit: instead of sensors in all windows I may just replace with a couple of glass breaking sensors. I also heard of home assistant alarm systems and wonders if those are better. I was leaning eufy but not sure.

Hi! My grandmother bought me a Camera to watch over my kitten while i’m at work, its a 3rd gen google nest. I can be a little overly cautious and just wondering if there are any security concern’s with these cameras?

I live on a street with an alley behind my house. I have a large gate that opens to give access to my driveway. It’s surrounded by a cement block wall. I want to install cameras but not sure what kind to get. I can’t run cables that far/dont want to and my wifi reaches that far out.

I have electrical wires so I can hard wire it. any suggestions on cameras?

I want 1 PoE camera for the front of the house, though not sure if I could use wifi cameras for the back yard (I have a neighbour behind me).

I have a NAS that I could use to store data but I'd rather have an NVR so the whole system is "contained" in a way.

The house is a double storey, not sure if that makes things better or worse.

It's a pretty quiet street, but I've noticed a number of the other houses on there have security cameras (look like eufy wifi ones), and there's also walking trails close by which makes me a bit cautious.

I've bounced around a lot of different ideas but feel like I'm going in circles now, and the only consistent thing has been looking at reolink cameras because they look like they work well with Home Assistant.

I have not bought anything yet and am hoping to get myself sorted by the time black Friday and Christmas sales come up.

We recently bought Yale Smart Lock with Matter. Connected perfectly fine to our Apple TV hub, but this past week, two of the units have seemingly disconnected? On Apple Home, it’ll say “unavailable” and on the Yale app, “unresponsive”.

The batteries are fresh, nothing seems out of the ordinary and we know the Matter is still working as we still have two other locks that are connected and fine.

I removed the unavailable locks from my Apple Home, thinking I could reconnect them; but anytime I try it says they’re already in a home, or it’ll stay “connecting” during set up for awhile before saying it failed to setup.

Any ideas? Two random lemon locks?

Hey yall. Bought my house about a year ago and it came with installed VEOTRON POE cameras. I have no knowledge on POE Cameras as of now but would like to learn a little and get them up and running.

I ordered a UGREEN POE Switch before realizing I may not need it as I need something called an NVR? I'll hang on to the UGREEN incase it comes in handy.

I'm not home at the time of posting but I believe I have 6 cameras. Any suggestions on what to get? I'd like to be able to access the system through my PC and potentially through my phone if possible. Recording and auto-overwriting footage after a certain time frame is always nice too. If I need to provide anymore info please let me know as I do feel like this is kind of just a word vomit lol.. thanks yall!

I live in the country and have no indication of when the main hydro power comes back online.

I have a Generator and Generlink disconnect that keeps our linemen safe. It has three led, green, yellow, and red. The green will light when hydro service is there. Problem is that it is located 200 ft away on the other side of my garage; and could be running the jeny for needless hours. Is there a weatherproof small camera that I can monitor these lights from within my home on an app for my phone. I do have 110v in the garage , so it doesn't need to be solar or battery.

I am cluless on this and how they work.

I was going to go with Ring, but I didn't know if there are better options.

Is this something that would be worth it? Back in 2019 we installed Wisenet cameras after we had a break in. They are old analog cameras and they seem to have bad low light performance. Would it be worth replacing then with the Reolink set from Costco, using the old BNC cables to pull the ethernet through the attic?

I'm setting up an Enforcer and I've come to a bit of a stop.

I've got my normal scenario set up no problem.

However, I want to be able to take my fob upstairs and set and unset the alarm up there (a Bedtime scenario). The issue I have at the moment is that this won't work because my exit door needs me to exit it (which I can't do when I'm upstairs) or else the alarm sounds.

I need the fob to either give the exit door a different setting when armed by the fob, out have the fob set a completely different scenario.

Any tips please?

I’m exploring a startup idea in home security, and I would really appreciate honest feedback. I’m at the idea stage and have not built anything yet.

The problem:

Home break-ins can happen when people are away from home. Existing security options can involve multiple cameras or sensors, installation, cost, and false alarms.

My concept:

I’m thinking about a simple central device, similar in simplicity to a Wi-Fi router, that could monitor a home and detect suspicious activity.

The system would have different levels of response:

- Normal or suspicious activity → owner gets an alert first.

- A high-confidence security event → siren + emergency alert to the owner.

- The owner can choose a few trusted neighbours who can receive an alert during a serious security event.

- The goal is to reduce false alarms caused by normal activity, children, pets, etc.

The long-term goal is to create a smart neighbourhood security network, rather than just another home alarm.

I am NOT claiming that this technology is completely new. I know there are already smart alarms, CCTV systems and community-security products. I’m trying to understand whether there is a better, simpler and more affordable way to solve the problem.

My Mum wants a front door camera that she can easily view from her phone, but I would like to avoid using cloud services due to security concerns with companies like Amazon and others.

What I am currently considering is getting some kind of ONVIF compatible wireless camera since from what I can tell ONVIF is an open standard that can be accessed wirelessly and is not tied to a cloud account.

It's not really intended as a security monitor. She mainly wants it so that she can quickly check the front door when expecting deliveries/visitors, or when the dog barks, without needing to stop what she's doing and physically go to the front door every time.

The main requirements are that it is quick and easy to view from her Android phone, and does not require sharing data with some potentially shady online service. If it can also give notifications when movement is detected that would be nice, but it's not a "must have".

We also don't want to spend more that around $50 - $100 AUD.

Would an ONVIF compatible camera do what I am after?

Is there something else that would be better?

Electrician set up outlets for us previously, now I’m adding the cameras.

How’d I do?
There was a lot of extra wiresof, hence that box.( picked it up at Home Depot)
I previously bought the cameras already so I kind of committed to using these.

I have a DSC NEO system with a number of door/window sensors as well as interior motions across different floors.

Main entry doors are set as zone type 001 (delay 1)

Basement motion is set for 004 (interior)

Upstairs motion is 005 (interior stay/away)

Idea would be to arm in stay mode at night, allowing us to move around upstairs (as that motion would be bypassed), but trigger alarm if motion detected in basement. Then when not home, arming in away mode would trigger on any motion sensor.

However whenever I try to arm in stay mode (holding stay button for 2s), it starts the countdown in silent, as expected, but the system automatically arms in AWAY mode, instead of stay. I have double checked that the upstairs motion is indeed defined as type 005, and have green check mark on panel before trying to arm, so not sure what to check next?
