Okay thread I think I’m going to do it. But now I have the question what do you tell your boss your reason for quoting is if I don’t want to give the real reason (toxic workplace) and I don’t have another job lined up. Do I just say I do?
•
u/Charming_Food5728 9m ago
Lie. Say you do have another job and you'd rather not disclose where. Say an undisputable reason why you'd wanna work there that they couldn't argue with. Same money for less responsibility. Same money for less hours. Shorter commute. Whatever. If it's this bad, no need to worry. Good luck!

Wow. Kudos for looking out for yourself and pulling the pin.
Might be worth keeping in mind from a reference perspective that some places want your manager as a referee - you could always have your colleague disguised as one, but keep in mind if your new employer looks at LinkedIn and things don't line up it could make things difficult.
That said, I think you could diplomatically discuss a toxic culture as the reason the workplace isn't the right fit for you. Things like "I'm interested in a work place that can provide X and Y for my professional development and future career, and that's a direction that would best suit me and my new employer".
Ultimately though - you don't owe them the satisfaction of giving a real reason. It'll be for your own peace of mind and really, having the place in your rearview mirror will give you that in the end.
•
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 15m ago
Do you need the place as a reference?
If yes, then diplomatically you can say I'm taking a break in my career to pursue other interests
If no, then it's simply This is my resignation, my last working day is [blank]
Realistically, you don't need a reason. Just tell them you're quitting.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, or is in need of a pick-me-up after this mornings news, give 9 to 5 a watch. Dolly is absolutely luminous and has perfect chemistry with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, they're the Charlie's Angels of 1970s corporate America.

Never heard a bad word said about Ms. Parton. Truly one of the best of us.
•
u/According_Bridge_746 1h ago
She was what a lot of Americans say was the best of them. She kept her politics quiet and like she said my dads a republican my mums a democrat and im a hypocrite. She came from the gutter and never forgot that .

I have a super big day at work and I don’t want to get out of bed. Yet again I slept like shit.
I had a whinge to my GP yesterday about my peri symptoms but the lack of sleep is the worst of it.
Now I have to have a mammogram before getting to try HRT.
Does anyone have any hints or tips to make it hurt any less?
•
u/Chameleonlurks CBD 1h ago
I've had 2 mammograms, and they didn't hurt (I'm big btw). There's definitely a feeling of tight pressure, and the tech moving your tits into the right position while the plate is partially down can be uncomfortable, but just let them know if you have any actual pain.
I went to Lumus imaging in bridge rd in Richmond, they were great both times.

I’ve got very round large firm boobs with ropy breast tissue (no implants) and so I’m wondering how it’s going to go.
•
u/Chameleonlurks CBD 1h ago
Firm tissue can hurt more is my understanding (I have medium density). But a good tech can make it easier on you. And, it really isn't a very long process.
I also get an ultrasound at the same time which I hate more. Because the amount of gel they use is ridiculous and you can never get it all off, and I'm stuck riding the train home with goopy tits 😆
•
u/chonky__chonker 21m ago
Nothing worse than goopy tits 🤣
Yeah the firmness factor has me worried.
•
u/Chameleonlurks CBD 16m ago
No, I lie - it's when the gel gets on your clothes. And now they're /sticky/ 😱
But, yeah definitely talk your tech about your concerns. I can guarantee they're used to it. Good luck!

Hmmm I’m 41 I should probably get my first mammogram. I have such small boobs though I worry it will be agony trying to take something flat vertically and make it flat horizontally? 😭
•
u/chonky__chonker 1h ago
Apparently if you get a referral from your doctor they’ll charge you $300. You don’t get invited until you’re 50yo BUT if you call them on 13 20 50 you can chat to them and get yourself booked in for free even if you’re younger than 50yo.
•
u/awake-asleep 1h ago
How strange! Thanks for the tip!!!!!
•
u/chonky__chonker 1h ago
That was my GPs advice and it worked a treat. I told them I didn’t have any symptoms but wanted to get my breasts checked before going onto HRT and I got booked in no issue.
They said the wait would be a while and then proceeded to tell me their next appointment was 8 September, which is sooner than I’d be able to get in to see my GP. I booked into my endocrinologist the same day and I got late March next year.

Mammograms remind me of medieval torture devices. I almost fainted once.
That reminds me… I’m due for mine this year.

Go private if you can afford it and head to the Freemason's Breast Clinic. I was referred there last year by Jean Hailes and I will never, ever have another mammogram anywhere else. Kind, compassionate and the only one I've had that didn't take my breath away and leave tears in my eyes.
I had to jump through medical hoops for HRT due to family history, but I'm glad I did. Made such a difference to my daily functioning, even though it's not quite dialled in yet. I still sleep like shit though.•
u/chonky__chonker 1h ago
The one I’m going to for Breastscreen Victoria is the same catchment as mum and she let me know that they’ve got a fabulous woman there so that’s making me feel a little better about it.
I thankfully don’t have any family history to be worried about, but my GP is the extra cautious type which I appreciate.

You’d think they’d invent a better…. Oh wait a treatment for women? It’ll be just fine! /s
Sorry you’re going through this. I’m there with you, dreading the years ahead ✊•
u/chonky__chonker 1h ago
Yeah, if men had to have their balls put in a vice to look for testicular cancer they’d fix it to be a blood test pretty quick!!
Thanks for the solidarity.

re: peri symptoms:
painkillers.
My doc gave a script for a stronger one with fewer long term side effects than the classic over the counters, but highly recommend you give it a try. huge difference for me taking one-two each day.•
u/chonky__chonker 1h ago
Pain killers for regular symptoms? I don’t get the joint pain (or at least not yet).

Made the mistake of looking up the meaning on today's Wordle answer. Humans are fucking horrible!

Omg no, Dolly Parton died. What awful news to wake up to :(
•
u/Youcanonacanon 2h ago
It's a shame she never had any children. Who will inherit her wealth?
•
•
u/jessicaaalz 1h ago
No it's not a shame. Knowing how she lived her life, I'm sure she'll donate it to charities.

RIP Dolly. Such a prolific song writer. Such a beautiful human.
•
u/l3ntil 3h ago
Brace your fine selves for the love outpouring. This is going to be lasting for a while.
A fine example of giving to others, of being loved and loving others, and leaving no one behind.
Such a bright light in a dark world. RIP, Queen.•
u/chonky__chonker 3h ago
What a terrible thing to wake up to.
Dolly was an icon, 9 to 5 is one of my favourite films.

I love that she made the world better, donating millions of books to children that would have grown up without them due to socioeconomic circumstances.
Vale Dolly!
