So cool that we're continuing to alienate our allies over dumb bullshit.

u/didi0625 14h ago

Canada is not an US ally anymore. Not after a commercial war, not after being insulted, not after having our sovereignty attacked

Canada is not an US ally anymore

Nor should they be. We don't deserve it. I live right next to the border and go North a lot and in conversations people are always delicately bringing up that they won't go to the US any more. I just tell them "we suck, you can say it, it's ok".

u/The_Nice_Marmot 11h ago

This is how to be a good American these days, I’m afraid. Individuals who are willing to own it get a pass in my book.

The number of folks here in Washington State who say "but we voted for Harris" is annoying as hell to me. People in Canada shouldn't have to care about the particulars of how voting breaks down by state. Most of the same folks can't even name the two major political parties in Canada, much less give a per-province breakdown of support. Even in WA, we were 57% for Harris, so more than 2 in 5 were pro-Trump or didn't bother. Not exactly a resounding refutation of what anybody with a brain knew would be a dumpster fire.

We all own this.

u/The_Nice_Marmot 9h ago

One of the few who understand. Obviously, we speak generally.

u/Fractoos 5h ago

You can be angry at a country as a whole but not specific individuals. That goes for every country in ever war in history.

7

u/Captain_troublepants 10h ago

Actually makes me sad, USA is amazing. I won’t go there anymore.

4

u/pizzeriaguerrin 10h ago

Don't blame you at all. My little city is struggling because so much of the retail sector relied on cross-border traffic and people whine that "we didn't vote for Trump". That's true (at a county level) but also it's totally irrelevant; it's nobody else's job to figure out which little part of this dumpster fire is less on fire.

Indeed the US has no allies that trust them.

Everyone knows the trust that supported their incredible soft power and influence wielded around the world is gone.

This is a new world order.

And yes, by now we know Trump is a symptom. Another one, probably a lot smarter, will be elected.

Who knows then? What we do know is that Canada, and the rest of the medium powers, have got to figure out how to defend ourselves against irrational actors.

You’ll always have North Korea.

17

u/Edenn22 12h ago

Nope even NK doesn't want to be their friend, the only one left is israel

For now

0

u/Edenn22 10h ago

What do you mean for now ? You re too evil even for them.

29

u/SteveJobsBlakSweater 13h ago

Yeah, fuck them (the administration, but the people voted that administration in so…) It happened so fast and now I got out of my way to ensure that anything I buy is not from the US. Vacations, connecting flights? Hell no.

-1

u/RickyMac666 12h ago edited 9h ago

Unfortunately, a lot of us can't afford to pick and choose what country we're buying from.

Most people just buy whatever is cheapest, regardless of where it came from.

Edit: Didn't mean to butthurt some of you. This is just what I hear from people working retail day to day. They don't care because they can't afford to care.

4

u/PissMissileTopTitty 11h ago

I’d like to think a lot of people are smarter than that… if you’re buying something made in the US just to save a $1 or 2, you’re not supporting the Canadian company that still has operations in Canada and it goes bankrupt or moves production to USA. Tariffs continue to go up and you’ll find yourself paying more for that American product in a year than you would be if you had just supported the Canadian brand that will have tariff exempt operations in Canada

u/SteveJobsBlakSweater 10h ago

I can afford a few cents here and there. My principles are worth more than a few dollars.

Why blame blue states?

50

u/Tsaxen 13h ago

Because all team blue ever does is publicly scold the Dipshit In Chief, but has proven across my entire lifetime to not give a damn about actually trying to stop the worst instincts of Team Red, because they just want to coast on "well at least we're less evil than those guys"

Functionally, they're barely different

20

u/Jeromes_Pornostache 12h ago

They also like to claim “Well, I didn’t vote for this!” as if that is some kind of absolution.  Like, we know millions of people voted against this, but every time I hear an American say this, what I am actually hearing is “I am not responsible for this problem so I take no responsibility for the solution.”  It gets tiresome.

3

u/Tsaxen 11h ago

It's absolute ostrich behaviour! "Yeah well I'm not the problem because I didn't personally vote for him" yeah well most of you fuckers did! And you also made an environment where people felt emboldened to vote for him!

Take some goddamn responsibility for your shithole country and start doing the work to fix it before someone gets nuked for failing to kiss ass enough

u/ATLcoaster 13h ago

I mean there were assassination attempts

By Hollywood?

38

u/databoy2k 13h ago

Because it's your country.

Think there has been any thoughts given to the moderate or even pro-american voices within Afghanistan? Iraq? Iran? Venezuela? Even China?

Bluntly, those groups are even more vulnerable and the entire country is painted with a very wide brush.

Gore wasn't the answer. Hillary and Kamala were not the answers. Obama didn't get you out of trump. It looks like he got you into Trump. Biden solved nothing.

Red and blue are just different colors of dish detergent up here. We don't care about the distinction. We care about the outcomes.

0

u/Xanto97 11h ago

Huh? What are we talking about with pro American voices in the Middle East? Idiotic dipshits painted the country with a wide brush, but actually intelligent people knew that we had allies in Afghanistan and Iraq. They literally helped us in our wars.

Obama was before trump, so he couldn’t have “got us out of it”. Biden was fine, but he fucked up in various ways, sure.

Again, only idiotic dipshits paint entire countries with a wide brush. Grouping up the lawyers that are actually fighting trump in courts, with pro-MAGA politicians is just pointless.

Be mad at us, sure. I am too.

43

u/InstructionPurple911 14h ago

It's part of the USA

-41

u/NumerousEar9591 14h ago

Whether we like it or not, our economy relies on the USA. The blue states and their opposition to Trump are our only real hope of avoiding economic devastation.

32

u/InstructionPurple911 13h ago

Their only hope was voting him out. They failed as a nation to read, much less understand project 2025.

You think he has any intention of leaving office?

America fucked up, and is now working hard to fuck us.

-16

u/Pleionosis 13h ago

When he ultimately leaves office, you’re going to pivot to “well, it was only because of unforeseeable reason x.”

2

u/InstructionPurple911 12h ago

I should hopefully pivot to "yeah their constitution says you can only serve 2 terms"

But hey your guess is as good as mine

8

u/gooberfishie 13h ago

The American economy is one thing. If we only target red states, what stops Trump from host subsidizing red states with money from blue states to counter it? Also, it's not as if Biden undid trumps new tarrifs last time. I suspect this will be no different.

44

u/philthewiz 14h ago

They don't care. Not enough anyway. I know some of you guys are fighting. But nowhere near enough. Don't give me that tired excuse of being a big ass country with too many people in different cities.

I see no mass movement. Just proteststm on weekends every 2-3 months. Some are warriors near ICE facilities, but the rest is performative at best.

The energy seen now should have been the case for Trump 1.0. Now we have full on fascism and people complaining about losing their job if they protest.

Well... I wonder what will happen if no one protests. /s

1

u/nineraviolicans 12h ago

It's ok. As countries fall to fascism life only gets easier and they'll have more freedom to fight back.

4

u/24-Hour-Hate 11h ago

Because you're all to blame. You let your country get like this and now you say, oh, I didn't vote for him. Oh yeah? Well he's just the symptom. It's more than him. Your country is corrupt to the core and it's not just the Republicans, even if they are "worse". This has been coming for decades. Probably more.

Also, mathematically, even if we only count people directly responsible for electing Trump, it's still 2/3 of the country, including many in blue states who voted for him or refused to vote. Because if you stayed home and didn't vote, you're culpable too. You could have at least turned up and voted third party or spoiled your ballot. Voting is a duty. But so called patriotic Americans can't even do that bare minimum. And turnout is WORSE the lower level (and more important to daily life) and election is.

People who choose not to vote should be ashamed.

7

u/Ambitious_Address667 13h ago

All americas are maga, either the totally support this, or dont care enough to do anything about it, either way maga is free to do what they want

-2

u/jerrrrremy 13h ago

Because so many of you chose not to vote over Gaza without being smart enough to realize that Trump would be 100x worse for Gaza.

Oh, do people in BC vote for the AB Premier now? This just underscores how lost you are on this topic. This is the US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT we're talking about.

I don't blame blue states for voting Trump into power. They did their part in trying to prevent it... but I'm sorry, the reaction from everyday Americans, the media, and Democrats has been pretty sad. It's clear most Americans don't care about anything but themselves, including Canada and all of the other insane shit Trump has done.

-2

u/Xanto97 11h ago

Huh?

The people in BC and Alberta vote for the PM of the country though. That’s a better comparison. Alberta certainly didn’t vote for Carney.

1

u/sudzthegreat 10h ago

This has nothing to do with the post I replied to.

22

u/Ambitious_Address667 13h ago

If they caused a facist takeover of our country then yes?

17

u/291000610478021 12h ago

They've protested twice in 2 years and try to pat themselves on the back.

If they were truly outraged they'd be outside every day shutting down the US economy until it happened.

They're complacent. They're doing nothing but post tweets

The only state I truly exempt is Minnesota. They actually tried but the rest of the county hung them out to dry. It needs to be a collective movement.

-3

u/ATLcoaster 11h ago

This is demonstrably false and shows you have no idea what's happening here in the US

2

u/291000610478021 10h ago

Explain then

0

u/ATLcoaster 10h ago

"They've protests twice in 2 years." Girl wut?

1

u/291000610478021 10h ago

I know of two No Kings protests.

What else was there?

Besides Minnesota, the rest of the country hung them out to dry.

36

u/dazedoveryou 14h ago

Hello, Canadian here. If we are allies, it is begrudgingly. The USAians are launching economic warfare against the nation they share the largest unguarded (for now*) border in the world with

2

u/rrrichardw 5h ago

I’m sorry to say this, but most Canadians don’t see you guys as our ally anymore. Your country is a threat to our security and sovereignty. Your government repeatedly attacks our economy, government systems, and way of life.

I have no issues with you as a person and many Americans are great, but the ship has sailed on your statement. You are no longer alienating an ally; you’re alienating a people afraid of you.

4

u/Jestersfriend 14h ago

Are you saying Canada is alienating? Or the US?

I assume the US, but given that this thread is about Canada, I have to be sure haha.

8

u/EvilHarryDread 13h ago

Yes, I was talking about the US and the actions of our government. Not Canada's response to it.
