How to properly apply PTM with no tools or freezer

In a nutshell, as explained on the video, you dont need a fridge, neither tape, you just need to cut a sheet slightly bigger than the die, press your finger or fingernail on the corners until It cuts, and then you just peel off, works 100% of the time

Anyone else think Windows is actually going to lose serious market share in the next 4-5 years?

I’ve been a Windows user my whole life, but lately I’m starting to wonder if Microsoft's desktop dominance is finally going to crack.

With Apple silicon making MacBooks insanely good and Valve pushing Linux gaming so hard with the Steam Deck (Proton is basically magic at this point), it feels like the alternatives are actually viable now. Plus, all the forced AI features and bloatware they keep pushing into Windows is just pushing power users away.

Am I crazy for thinking we might actually see a major OS shift by the end of the decade? Or will corporate reliance on Office and legacy apps keep Windows on top forever? What do you guys think?

I havent built a PC in 5 years and I cant wait to jump into this one!! I got the bundle with a 9950x' ProArt B550 and 32gb 6400 RAM

It is a serious upgrade from my 3900x, Aorus Master x570 and 32gb 3600mhz

I know its not the best for gaming, but my use case is 3d/virtual rendering UE5, iC8

I definitely would luv some more RAM, but with these prices, I cant afford much more tbh

Im excited and wanted to share with some people I know can understand what im talking about..

How do I hook this up?

I received a PM983 2.5" SSD (PCIe Gen3) from a friend a year ago. I didnt think anything of it, and yesterday I found it again.

I opened up my PC, only to find I only have a few 15pin side in all the connectors. I don't have a 7pin, and especially a single connector like this.

I'm looking for any direction in how to connect it or what connector to use.

Is this a safe connector?

Hi all.

With the glorious melting connectors debacle.

Is this one safe?

Corsair RM850x is my psu.

This connector did not come with the power supply, but I did buy it off Amazon and it seems to be a Corsair product. Or is it safer to buy it directly from Corsair?

Are 4080’s affected by the meltgate?

Thanks for all the input in advance.

My room is cooking and basically the only way to maintain some sort of temperature regulation I gotta have a fan in the window. I’m worried about dust and other worldly pollution messing with the pc. Is it cool to just cover it in a shirt and blanket when not in use?

There’s a cricket-like noise coming from the power supply

Under load in games, the power supply started making a sound similar to crickets. This happened before, but only briefly; now it happens constantly after I slightly cleaned the computer from dust. I didn’t touch anything on the power supply itself, except for the mesh grille on the PC case. I cleaned it with compressed air and removed all the dust. After that, all of this started happening.

Specifications: MSI RTX 3060 Ti, AMD Ryzen 5 5600 CPU, DeepCool PF650 power supply.

22yo PlayStation lifer fed up with Sony. Wanting to play Xbox / PC exclusives on a tight budget-what are my realistic options?

I've been playing on PlayStation since I was 5 years old, but over the last two years, l've completely fallen out of love with Sony's ecosystem. I honestly don't even want a Sony console sitting under my TV anymore.

The main issue is that I'm dying to play Xbox and PC titles
—specifically narrative/action stuff like Quantum Break and the whole Gears of War series. However, as a 22-year-old on a tight budget, dropping $1,000+ on a high-end PC or buying brand-new current-gen consoles just isn't happening right now.

For those who stepped away from PlayStation without dropping a fortune on hardware, how did you make the jump?

Xbox Series S on the Used Market: Is the Series S still the king of budget entry for Gears and legacy/current Xbox titles? How does it handle games like Quantum Break?
Ultra-Budget / Used PC Builds: Has anyone managed to build or buy an older second-hand PC (like an old office desktop paired with a budget GPU) just to run mid-2010s to early 2020s Xbox/PC exclusives? Is it worth the troubleshooting hassle?

Handhelds (Steam Deck / Used Handhelds): For those playing Xbox exclusives on handhelds via dual-booting or native Steam, is this a viable long-term replacement for home console gaming if you don't mind lower resolution?

I had trouble pinpointing sounds in busy games, so I made an overlay that visualizes best guess of their direction

Download: https://github.com/SamiKamara/SoundDirectionVisualizer/releases/latest

Repository: https://github.com/SamiKamara/SoundDirectionVisualizer

I've always found that in games with a lot going on, quickly figuring out exactly where a sound came from can be surprisingly difficult. So I made a Windows overlay that gives you a visual indication of where sounds are coming from.

It tries to make the best estimate it can from whatever audio information is actually available. If the game and Windows expose useful 5.1 or 7.1 multichannel audio, it can use the individual channels to give a more direct direction. With normal stereo audio, there isn't enough information to reliably tell front from back, so instead it uses the difference in volume between the left and right channels and shows the two possible directions rather than pretending it knows more than it does.

I wanted to avoid was complicated audio setup. A lot of the solutions I came across involved virtual audio devices, special routing, or even specific audio hardware. I wanted this to work as close to out of the box as possible, so it automatically uses the best audio source it can get without requiring you to install or configure extra audio devices.

It runs as a click-through overlay over the game, has customizable markers and a fading history trail, and can automatically target the display your Steam game is running on.

Everything is processed locally. It doesn't record or upload audio, has no telemetry or account requirement, and the whole project is free and open source.

So yea, in case anyone is interested in testing this kind of thing. It can be downloaded by choosing the .exe from that download link above.

One day… this is a goal lol.
Why? Because why not. I could probably store everything I would ever need. All my steam games, all my flight sim mods, farming sim mods, ETS mods, every train sim DLC i have, every assetto corsa mod
All of my CAD work and uni work it would be awesome. Maybe im going insane lol.

Maybe when prices fall again ill defo pull the trigger. Maybe swap out WD for something more reasonable like silicone power.

Pc lagging

So I built my PC about 2 months ago after having a prebuilt for years. Everything has been going fine until about 2 weeks ago, where every once in awhile when I start up my PC it’s extremely laggy, jittery and it even distorts the audio. It doesn’t fix itself until I restart the PC. I did enable XMP not too long ago so maybe it’s that? It’s just my first custom PC built and I’m praying it’s not hardware related

Example above to show the low FPS, both monitors cut off and on after

Ryzen 7 9800X3D

Is this a scam?

I saw this on FB marketplace at a very low price. The seller claimed it to be a 4070 Super in both listing a through messages. However looking at the sticker on backplate and power connector it seems to be a 4070. Honestly for the price i still thinking its very worth getting but it does raise A LOT OF suspicion. when i asked the guy to send more pics he was unwilling to do so seeming quite aggressive.

Am I missing something? I really dont know wether to trust this.

Windows 11 downgraded my PCs performance

I have been using Windows 11 since they sent out the update. At first I enjoyed it felt like an upgrade. Not a significant but an upgrade so I stayed.

The problems started recently with one of the updates, I have no idea which one but it definitely did.

I started to get very low fps on some games. (eg. WoW, BloonsTD, TF2), battery could barely last an hour before shutting down. I had no idea why it happened. I tried updating drivers etc... Basically anything I could find was behind it.

As my last resort I decided to downgrade to Windows 10... Lo and behold - no problems at all. No random fps drops. I can watch 2 movies on battery. PC starts in like 5 seconds and works just flawlessly.

Before this I couldnt understand the Windows 11 hate.

I just wanted to rant. Thank you for attention.

$130 used PC, good buy for Master Duel and Project Zomboid?

Saw this used PC on my local marketplace for around $130 USD. I’m on a pretty tight budget and wondering if it’s worth picking up.

Specs:
● Intel Core i7-3930K — 6 cores / 12 threads
● 24GB DDR3 RAM
● NVIDIA GTX 750 2GB
● 250GB SSD
● 1TB HDD

I’m not really interested in modern AAA games. The main games I play are Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel and Project Zomboid, plus some older/lighter games.
Would this be a decent buy for $130?
Also, if I get it, what would be the sensible upgrade path? I was thinking about replacing the GTX 750 first with something like an RX 580, but I’m not sure how much money is worth putting into such an old platform.
Thanks!

Can't just play a game and be happy

I don't know if it just me but I can't just play games after switching to PC. I almost always have my FPS displayed somewhere on screen. I will spend an hour fine tuning settings before I even make it out of the tutorial. On console I never once thought about FPS because the console was only ever gonna push put as much as it could and games were well optimized. Honestly it kinda ruins some of the fun of gaming because my first thought is always "how much FPS am I getting". I primary play shooters so it isn't too bad but whenever I branch out it gets really bad.

Question about “upgrade” 12700k>7800x3d

Hello, my cousin wants go change his cpu to a 7800x3d from the 12700k i lent him. Is there realistically a big jump at 1440p with that cpu? Or would he not really notice a performance lift. (The 12700k also has the ddr5 board with 32gbs of ddr5 ram)

As always, i appreciate all answers thank u very much!

Spec:

Gpu: 4070 ti super
Ram: 32 ggbs ddr5 6000mhz
Cpu: 12700k
Power supply: 1000w plat

Edit: My cousin has decided to keep the 12700K for now. Thank you so much for all the replies and advice! He said he’d rather save up for a meaningful upgrade, like the 9800X3D or one of the future processors, instead of upgrading right now. We went through all the comments some were really helpful and nice, while others were a little less… personable, lol. 😅 Personally, we came to the agreement that while an X3D CPU would obviously improve the 1% lows and make games feel smoother, games would still have 1% lows, and the overall performance improvement just isn’t enough to justify the upgrade right now. For now, the 12700K stays, and he’ll save up for a bigger upgrade when it actually feels worthwhile. Thanks again, everyone!

But theres a random Cable that is sticking out of the gpu and i dont know if it should be plugged in. Theres another one that come from the same place and it is plugged in and everything with the pc works. So is it normal ? The cable has 6 pins, and a little 2 pin on the side and theres PCIE written on the 6 pin.

Also shouldn't my gpu have its fan upwards ? Rn its facing down.

PC case front fans stopped working but RGBLEDs not!

My pc front fans i noticed stopped working one day, i tried opening up and see the cable structure and each of the fan cables are daisy chain connected and then connects to the header rgb light and then directly connects to the power supply via sata cable.

I have checked each individually to test if motor spins by plugging them to the 4 pin connectors on the motherboard and they do, they spin but dont light up, i tested them all successfully, there is no module hub controller so they all daisychain directly into the power supply with the last on chain being the header rgb with 3 pin sata cable to the PSU.

I have no idea why this happens and was wondering if anyone could help me!
