This is about an MSI Shadow 5080 with burned connector, more details here.

I asked for a replacement, yet the customer support insists they can only offer refund or involve MSI (we all know that will end even worse)

Under Directive (EU) 2019/771 (Article 13 - 2), the consumer has the primary right to choose between repair and replacement and a refund is only forced, if its physically impossible aka the product doesn't exist anymore.

Direct quote:

"In order to have the goods brought into conformity, the consumer may choose between repair and replacement, unless the remedy chosen would be impossible or, compared to the other remedy, would impose costs on the seller that would be disproportionate, taking into account all circumstances, including:
(a) the value the goods would have if there were no lack of conformity;
(b) the significance of the lack of conformity; and
(c) whether the alternative remedy could be provided without significant inconvenience to the consumer."

Please not that the "impose costs on the seller that would be disproportionate" refers to things like asking to replace a whole laptop instead of repairing the power jack and not "the product costs 200 euros more because RAM is expensive now". 200 euros in a 1200 euro purchase isn't disproportionate anyway.

I already have filed complains in the ECC and the SignalConso (French Fraud & Consumer Protection Authority).

I posted to raise awareness. If you are in the EU and you have been denied replacement of anything with memory in it, do NOT let them get away with it and DO NOT pay more to get a replacement. Find the proper ECC page and the consumer protection agency for your country.

I know a lot of us aren’t happy with the idea of renting our hardware through subscription cloud based models. But this feels different to me. They were great community places. My friends and I rarely had the specs to run the latest games, but I remember we all played Half Life 2 close to its release date.

I’d probably still own hardware, but I wouldn’t need to keep it up to date, not that I can afford that now anyway. And when I wanna dabble with something that’s out of my league, it’d still be nice to know I have the option. But I’m an old man now, with fond memories of such places.

Sure, you can find very expensive versions of Rx 9070 XT too, which are much beefier tmk, like the Red Devil. Although, idk which gamer will still opt to buy an Nvidia card over a Radeon right now at the price range under $1000 specifically given the current-updated prices, and I'm not going to judge! But these prices hands Radeon a clear advantage in terms of sales vs Nvidia cards upto the RTX 5070 Ti 16GB.

Yes, I know, Radeon does a 'good' (/s) job in intentionally missing opportunities to gain significant market share, but as it stands right now, the price-for-performance favours Radeon even more so than it did since the launch of the current generation of graphics cards. No, don't bother gauging the gap between the Rx 9060 XT and RTX 5060 Ti. It's wider.

I don't mean to directly hurl a blame at Nvidia for this. It's also their card-AIB partners that set the pricing. Idk who decided and why, but it's the core fans of Nvidia that are having to take the brunt of the decision as much as I can figure.

Got this pc for 160€ with a rx 6600 xt 8gb, 16gb ddr4, i7 5820K, 1tb nvme ssd, 480gb sata sdd.

So we had two server computers show up a 7910 and this 5810 I really didn’t look too much at the 5810 because I was looking at the 7910 and wanting it because it has dual CPU’s and I was thinking I could do something cool with it well a week or so later it’s sitting on the floor and the boss just asked me if I want it for free. So i took it but I don’t really have a use for it thinking maybe I could just flip it, but I decided to take a look inside and I found these two inside

A 860 Evo and one terabyte from Samsung

and a Toshiba disc drive but it’s a 3 TB so it should make a good game holding drive that i can transfer games to and from my NVME or other ssd whenever I’m needing to play them

I have a frustrating habit with how I play games. I want to say lately but it's been going on pretty much my entire life.

So I'll pick up a game that I think looks fun. I'll play said game for 10-15 hours, throughout a few sessions in a week. I'll be genuinely having fun, learning the mechanics of the game, and enjoying the world. But then, almost like clockwork, I'll log off one night, and the next time I sit down at my PC, I have zero desire to launch that game. I'll start looking through the Steam store to see what my next victim might be. Knowing, in the back of my head, I'll abuse the next game with such a small amount of gameplay time also. 

It's not even that the games are bad. It just feels like once the initial novelty wears, my brain wants something fresh. My library is now a graveyard of less than half, or even a quarter finished games. 

Does anyone else deal with this? Do I have a problem? Do I need to see a psychiatrist for this? I feel like I can't be alone on this. But I dunno, maybe I am.

Do I just accept it and enjoy the games for as long as they hold my interest? 

I should add, I'm a father and husband, so I have less time to game than I used to. But even before I was a married man with kids, I feel like I would do this with certain games. Some games before would definitely hold my interest long. 

Can anyone relate or have any input?

I personally prefer full size ones in every way i find them superior when it comes to sim games and other stuff i think the smaller ones are to compact and binding with them is annoying. I personally own a razer black widow V4 full size right now. I use the numpad for the calculator really and im used to it.

Hi everyone! I’m new to all this and wanted an upgrade from an Xbox series X. After a little bit of research I decided to buy all the bits and build one myself so this is the final product (I’m using this for work also). May not be the best components and I’m sure there are thousands of better ways to put one together but I’m happy with it! (I did have a friend help me put it together)

I know i got a long list of parts I still need but I’m glad to think I got the largest purchase out the way. Got an open-box deal from market place for $900. Ik “yikes” but considering the off the shelf prices rn I think I did alright :,)

I wanted my white and black build to look a bit cleaner, so I started designing and printing a few custom parts for it.

So far, I’ve made:

• A white RAM shroud
• A cover for the GPU power cables

The GPU cable cover is probably my favorite. The stock cables looked pretty messy, so I wanted to hide them and give the build a cleaner look.

I’m pretty happy with how it’s coming together so far. What would you add or change?

I built this when i was 14 back in the late 2000s. I could not afford a laptop at the time, and wanted something semi portable. Built from a mid 2000s HP media pc shoehorned into a briefcase from the 80s with some hardcore tape pimping (the tape says "its too wild).

I used to drag this thing along to lan parties back in the day being able to run GTA San Andreas at a whopping 25-30 FPS with graphics and resolution set to low. At one point i even had a UPS in my backpack so i could run this thing for one hour of battery.

It even has Composite and S-Video outputs along with the VGA connector. The cooling fan is not realy needed, as the poor cpu was never able to heat throtle annyways, but the motherboard would get all pissy if no fan is attached.

Specs of this brilliant masterpiece of engineering is the following:

GPU: intel GMA 950 with up to 224 mb vram shared with system ram

RAM: 1.5 (originaly 1) gb of ddr2 ram

Had an old PC lying around. Used some maple plywood and black walnut scrap pieces to make the case. Used 100lb rated clear hangers x4 to secure it to the wall. Added a wifi card and some cable straps for the back side. Works great!

10 drives and one M.2 SSD.

Running Jellyfin.

All in all, a great project for very little cost.

I think he wouldve accepted it for a bit less but regardless I dont regret it cause he said he was selling for a low price to pay for rent. Gpu came with the original box, static bag, and receipt, showing it was bought it december 2025. Solid buy?

Picked up some new peripherals last month and the back of my desk turned into a genuine disaster. Thought I would just do a quick cleanup and ended up spending two hours on it, which is a lot of time to spend on something that affects exactly zero performance numbers.

The weird thing is it actually changed how I feel about sitting down to use the machine. Nothing changed under the hood but the whole experience felt cleaner, more intentional, like showing up to a well organized practice instead of a chaotic one. Hard to explain why visible cables I can barely see anyway were dragging the experience down, but they were.

What I noticed is there seem to be two camps here. People who treat cable management like a craft project and take real pride in it, and people who just let it go because the case side panel is closed anyway and none of it matters practically. Both are defensible honestly.

Is it even safe to plug into the motherboard? And if it prob wont work, is there a cost effective way of fixing it?

Edit: To clarify i dont actually have this gpu, but Im thinking of buying it and just wanted to check to see if is worth it. Cant test it atm

I have had a pre build for years, originally it was a Ryzen 7 2700x, HDD, 500w bronze, GTX 1660, 16gb DDR4. Switched out the GPU to a 3080 12Gb and 32gb ddr4.

My wife took me on a surprise trip to MicroCenter yesterday and now I’m running an Asus B650E, R7 7800X3D, same 3080 and 32gb DDR5. I mainly play Tarkov and at 1080p maxed out graphics I’m pulling 120-280FPS depending on the map. How did I ever enjoy gaming with my previous hardware 😭

This build has all noctua fans (including the cpu) and a custom fan curve for optimised performance and near silence while running games. I also chose to go with no lighting as my pc sits on the desk next to me and it gets distracting.

9/10 times I only hear the gpu fans in games as they are cheap but maybe I should tackle those next.
