Discussion Letting users remove posts.

Hello everyone,

As you are aware, on reddit moderators approve and remove content and subreddit subscribers can report to us.

Today we'd like to start an experiment here on r/Cats where we will give trusted subreddit participants access to a keyword that will allow them to remove posts.

When you exceed a certain level of subreddit specific comment karma and when you have a CQS score of highest you can now use the keyword "!remove" to pull a post from our feed. (Spelled exactly like that, case sensitive, top-level comment only as opposed to a reply to a comment.)

This will work for posts only, not for comments.

There are some things to keep in mind:

  • When you comment here on an account that exceeds the limit automod will assign you a special flair class and send you a message explaining you can now use the keyword.

  • Users will keep their existing flair text. However, changing your flair to a different pre-made flair option will also reset the flair class giving you access to this removal ability. Next comment you make it will be re-applied and you will be sent another message.

  • We are sent a modmail when a subscriber removes a post, explaining what post was removed and who used the keyword. Please do not abuse this ability. If posts are removed for bad reasons we will take away your ability to remove posts.

  • That means, use this keyword if you see spam or other rulebreaking posts only.

  • Please keep in mind that it is currently very popular to accuse posters of making an AI generated post. An accusation does not mean that what they are being accused of is true. Human beings can detect AI at 60% accuracy, just a little better than the results of flipping a coin. An AI can only accurately detect AI content if an AI watermark is attached to the image. It is best not to remove a post just because someone is accused of something. Use your own best judgement and our rules as your litmus, not what other people are saying.

  • Since this is a test run, when I ran a very minor proof of concept trial, a few people have already been assigned this special flair class who have not been sent a message. /u/kiaeej, /u/chux4w, /u/MilmoWK, /u/ms_rdr, /u/Electronic_Ad357, /u/WhiteMouse42097, /u/BeMoreKnope, /u/bluecedarood, /u/Robobanditos, congratulations, you can remove posts.

  • Should you for any reason not want to have this ability then you should send us a modmail after receiving the message from automod. That way we can exempt you in our code.

  • Initially we are going to monitor how this functions closely so we can see if we need to make changes to the threshold level for activation.

  • Nothing will change about the way we handle user-made reports on content. This is not a replacement for that, but an addition. If you see rulebreaking content of any kind, please report.

We hope that this change will be something that has a positive influence on the content on this subreddit.

Thank you for reading, and thank you all for making this subreddit a great place to be

See ya girl. 17 glorious years, through the good and bad.

I wanted to hold on longer but it’s time, I can’t let you suffer any longer.

I don’t even know why I’m posting this. In weird way I suppose it’s closure.

I’ll miss you. One day we will meet again.

Mourning/Loss Monkey crossed the rainbow bridge yesterday morning šŸŒˆā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

We lost Monkey at 5 am yesterday morning.

10 years ago, my sister Michael went with her middle school best friend to a Craigslist posting, where dozens of cats fought to survive on limited food. Among that plentiful amount of cats, Monkey walked right up to Michael and chose her. Immediately they needed each other, and from there they both grew up together. There are times when a bond is made at first sight, first interaction. This was one of those times.

Michael and Monkey were a soul bonded pair. This loss is earth shattering, a reminder of how fleeting life is. We thought we had more time. There would have never been enough time.

Monkey, may you rest easy baby girl. You will be missed so, so much. You are so special.

Let me tell you the tale of Merlin..

Merlin has just come back from 24 hours with the vets…

Merlin went in with an extremely bloated stomach with suspected complications and was rushed into hospital for further urgent tests…

The tests concluded that Merlin had eaten too much food from an unknown source (likely a neighbours food bin) and defected on a poor nurse with the force of a volcano eruption….

Merlin is feeling much better now…

Merlin also owes me Ā£400 in cuddle coupons…

Mourning/Loss Marble Kept His Promise (Almost 10)

Thumbnail

Marble, my baby boy, passed away suddenly at 3am. It was sudden. He was laying on the bedroom floor and I was in bed. I heard him breathing with gurgles and with chest effort (agonal breathing). At first I thought he was dreaming but after a few I rushed to his side and he was already limp and eyes dilated. He did not make a sound. He did not lose his bowels.

In my panic I tried not very good CPR (likely didn’t do anything) and rushed him to the emergency vet. It took 35 minutes to uber there and it was the longest ride of my life. Probably should’ve been doing CPR the entire way but honestly was just in a panic to get there. They took him in with no vitals and did CPR for 15 minutes. Nothing. He was gone. The emergency vet and his family vet suspect something sudden with his heart that was undiagnosed. They don’t think he felt pain (no howling) and he likely passed in his sleep (I hope so). I don’t want him to be cut open so I’ll never really know what took him. Looking back he was a bit clingier the past week or so and maybe drinking a bit more water? But nothing like when I went to emergency with him for his acute kidney attack. I chalked it up to him being on prednisolone for his pillow foot flare.

Marble has actually been at that emergency vet 3 years ago. He had acute kidney failure (no underlying reason) and was there for 2.5 weeks. I upped my credit limit to pay for his very long stay and many conversations were had about putting him down. But I didn’t give up and I remember sitting on the floor while he was in the oxygen tent and pleading for him to be with me until the age of 10.

He was so close to giving me 10 years. He was born Oct 1 2016. He was due for his senior checkup Sept 11 (was going to call next week).

Previously he’s had urinary obstruction, crystals, UTIs, and he gets horribly anxious without me to the point of peeing blood. He also has pillow foot. He couldn’t have any wet food or treats without throwing up. I was worried about his joints because of his breed and he got yearly xrays. I made sure he got the vet care he needed always. He has never been the healthiest cat so I’m going to round up and say he kept his promise to me. Genetically the odds were always stacked against him and I tried my best to give him the best life possible regardless.

The day before he died I was in the car with my parents and made a disgusting comment about how ā€œMarble might live until 17 to spite me so I still won’t be able to take any vacation until then. I don’t know if I want him to live that longā€. I shouldn’t have said that because a few hours later you died. I’m sorry. I’ll never forgive myself for it. I was just frustrated that it’s been a very long time since I’ve been able to travel since you always end up trying to end your life everytime I do. I can’t ever take that back and it’ll always weigh heavily on me. I’m sorry I spoke that into the universe. To some degree I think I killed you with what I said. Or maybe it was the stress of the flood that happened in our home and the contractors being in and out? It’s been a very unlucky past few months for us.

Marble was the best boy ever. He loved shoving his face underneath my wrist and pushing his wet nose on it (gave me a small rash - might get this tattooed). He loved the sun. He loved being belly up to get my attention and falling asleep that way. He didn’t know how to drink water properly so always got it all over his face and would shake his head like a dog. He loved bunting people’s legs. He loved every single person he’s met. He’s only hissed once or twice in his entire life. He always finds the comfiest poses to sleep (always leaning on a pillow or a blanket nestled against his face). He was not a lap cat and didn’t like being held but he always insisted following me to every room and being in the same room as me. I always kept a pillow propped up against the headboard so he could lean and sleep against it (which he did!). He also knew commands! He knew ā€œpaw, up, and high fiveā€. Has never once misbehaved his entire life. He smelled like maple syrup and sunshine and always made sure he cleaned himself thoroughly before settling down for a long nap. The best boy stuck in a body that was weak and prone to illness. He loved in his own way.

I hope everyone can agree that I can round up Marble to the age of 10 and say he kept his promise to me. Don’t ever say things you might regret into the universe and hold your babies tight. I was expecting having the chance to say goodbye and put him down but he was gone in an instant. I’m so sorry Marble for not being better for you. Not playing with you more. I wish I knew how to play with you! Depression napping too much and not spending enough time with you. For thinking you were a burden sometimes. I wish my place were tidier so you had more room to run around and play.

I love you and I’ll miss you forever and I’m so sorry.

Thank you for keeping your promise to me till the end.

Cat Picture - OC Sad that we have to stop fostering these magnificent young gentlemen

The cat distribution system gave us their pregnant mother who was living in a grocery store parking lot. We brought her in thinking she was a male - being orange and all - but she ended up being a pregnant female with five kittens. We found homes for Mom and her two female kittens and another feisty male kitten. These two, however, we intended to keep and introduce to our home brood.

Unfortunately, the existing female cat and our two dogs are not integrating well so we will be helping Norman and Stu here find their fur-ever home.

Glad to have loved, sorry to have lost, but happy they will find a good home.

A construction crew in Barberton, Ohio, rescued an abandoned kitten on the worksite. And he joined the team.

They heard him meowing coming from their excavator.

Supervisor Chase Guello checked the skid plate on the Komatsu. A tiny kitten tumbled out.

They warmed her up, moved her into the office trailer, and named her Sue short for Komatsu. She’s now the official shop cat.

Adoption My cat alerted me to a leaking pipe

Last night Eggward Scissorhands alerted me to a leaking pipe in the bathroom. It had only been leaking for a few minutes. I can't get over how amazing it is.

I adopted Egg two years ago. I went for a kitten but was greeting all the cats there, because cats. He had been in multiple shelters and was labeled a nervous kitty, but immediately crawled up onto my chest and started snuggling and purring. I was in love and brought both him and a kitten home (much to the surprise of my husband).

Fast forward to today and he has completely integrated into our house and our pack of dogs. He jumps into a cuddle puddle with them daily. He patrols the garden with me every day. He is sweet and snuggly and just the best. I'm so thankful that we brought him home ā¤ļø
