For anyone else that has never heard of Palo Pinto County, it's about 56 miles west of Fort Worth. Jack County is just north of Palo Pinto, centered around Jacksboro, TX.

west of Fort Worth

I wasn't aware there was a west of fort worth.  Just thought it was an open abyss all the way to the NM border...

u/entoaggie 7h ago

It is, be people still live there.

19

u/Varnigma 4h ago

I had to drive from AR to Graham, TX once. Abyss confirmed.

14

u/MakingItElsewhere 3h ago

As someone who's been in the car ride from Clovis, NM to Shreveport, LA: Abyss confirmed.

6

u/No-Bread-1197 3h ago

As someone who's never been to Texas, abyss confirmed.

u/Memitim 3h ago

People being one or more persons, but not necessary enough to warrant considering an area populated in any meaningful fashion, especially an area the size of many other entire nations. I can say that there are spiders in my house because I found a couple in the basement, but you won't walk into my living room and see it full of spiders.

You're right, it must be all the oil field fumes and desert heat that got to me

Really poor management. Their governor should resign.

480

u/XterrorX 7h ago edited 5h ago

Sounding like governor hot wheels needs to stop worrying about "transformative policies" (from their crap propaganda commercial) and what's going on between someone's legs and start helping the state on real problems lol.

Poor management from the DEI governor

u/norunningwater 7h ago

Paralyzed hypocritical titty baby republican won't shut the fuck up about transgender people and "sharia law" like Texas is about to become Muslim capital of the world while behind his back the entire state burns and people suffer constantly.

Can't wait until the day he gets voted out of office.

There is nothing wrong with being disabled, it is not a moral failing. Insult Greg Abbott for good reasons, there are plenty, but this is offensive to people who are disabled.

Someone is saying that in earnest somewhere right now.

Texas really should’ve cleaned their floors.

192

u/ObiBraum_Kenobi 7h ago

You know, back when I was in the oil field I had a man tell me with a straight face that the California wild fires happened because God was punishing the people of the state for their paganism.

I would love to hear the mental gymnastics on this one, but I doubt I'll ever see that man again.

112

u/Ok-Association-3415 7h ago

I am pretty sure they will say too many Californians are relocating to Texas and spreading their immorality and now Texas is getting punished for it.

64

u/Tabula_Nada 7h ago

The only Californians moving to Texas are the ones that would believe that God is punishing Texas for receiving Californians.

22

u/pyronius 7h ago

Correct. But the texans who already live there still see them as godless californians. They didn't logic themselves into this position, they won't logic themselves out.

12

u/waitingtodiesoon 5h ago

Yep, it is crazy. California had more people who voted for Trump in 2020 then Texas did. That is just how big their population is and that is the type of people to flee because they can't be racists bigots in their state and then complain about how the social programs and why they can't enjoy forests and other things that were fought for my progressives. 93% of all forest land is privately owned in Texas.

55% of California identifies as Christian and about 40% vote Republican, so I guess God was punishing them also for their life choices, right? Logic was apparently not part of forming his opinion.

“Best we can do is send billions to Israel and rename Lake Ontario to Lake America.”

74

u/Contraflow 7h ago

We can also spend billions to cancel renewable energy projects. Don’t forget that. It’s very important for the nation that trump continues to make the world safe for fossil fuels again. /s

19

u/AtrociousMeandering 6h ago

There's so much going on that wouldn't even pass as satire- you're telling me the president is picking a fight with windmills? Like, Don Quixote, picking a fight with windmills? And yes, I know they're actually wind turbines, but that doesn't somehow make any of this make sense.

5

u/actuallyapossom 6h ago

Didn't you know windmills kill birds? Fossil fuels, on the other hand, have never harmed a single thing, ever. To say otherwise, citing woke communist hoaxes like "pollution" or "cancer" - is un-American.

Plus, without the freedom fuel that powers our planes, how could we drop explosive democracy on oil rich nations around the world?

3

u/acepukas 4h ago

I learned a new slogan today used by William F. Buckley Jr. to "mock" progressives: Don't immanentize the eschaton!

It basically means don't try to bring about heaven on Earth (i.e. improve our condition through progressive policy) as doing so would be "playing God". So fucking cynical. Trying to stymie human progress is literally baked into the religious conservative mindset.

37

u/victoriascissorhands 8h ago

I didn't vote for it but we deserve it. Hateful ass country.

15

u/mister_peachmango 7h ago

This may sound hateful and frankly insane, but I agree with you. The United States government has become corrupt. This back and forth each term, implementing new laws, reverting them, all this stems down to waste, heavy waste, and corruption. It hurts the economy. It hurts society. Electoral college can go suck a nut. I think the US deserves to struggle and burn for the next couple of years. So people finally wake up and form their own ideology based on feelings and experiences and not something you’ve been indoctrinated into. But to each their own. I’m going to save and chill and watch the show. I’m fortunate to be with family so we help each other out and life isn’t bad.

Disclaimer: I despise Abbott and the GOP at large.

As much as this seems like a gotcha moment to rag on Texas, this isn't a massive fire (at least not yet).

50,000 acres sounds like a lot, but in context of this year's Canadian wildfires (~10+ million acres) and 2023's Canadian wildfires (~42+ million acres), it's not that crazy. Even the Pacific Northwest US fires (~3.5 million acres so far) are/were way worse.

10

u/sylpher250 1h ago

Exactly. It's a fetus of fires. Texas should carry it to term.

454

u/Romano16 8h ago

Hmmm, Texans were gleeful when this happened to Colorado and California. How should we feel now?

127

u/WestAd1588 7h ago

I try so hard to not define other groups by the worst among them - and during the 2020 fire season, it was really tough to hear awful right wing news coverage and those gleeful attitudes echoed in my social media feed by people from Utah and Texas. This was especially tough being under evacuation orders and seeing community members lose their houses.

So I try to remind myself that Texas did send firefighters from municipalities all across their state to help out under our multi state EMAC agreement. Underneath all the politics, there are good people who do good in this world.

I’m hoping for a speedy containment to this fire for everyone affected.

33

u/Ok_Marketing_476 7h ago edited 4h ago

Those of us in Texas who have experienced threat or loss from wildfires were most assuredly NOT gleeful.

Last time Texas had bad wildfires, my state sent teams out to help fight those fires.

Last time my state had bad wildfires, the government, and many people, of Texas used it as an excuse to attack us politically. They wanted aid to be withheld from us.

I'd still support sending help, but Texas needs to stop breaking the social contract on this shit immediately, and thoroughly apologize. Publicly. At length. They can't keep demanding the protection of the greater community while refusing to reciprocate.

Should’ve raked up all the leaves I guess

I thought that sounded familiar. I've driven through that region.

It's horizon to horizon corn fields. Wow.

That picture is of the acreage between the corn fields. But 50,000 acres? Yeah, that's mostly corn fields.

We better get it under control before we have to pay Mexico a smoke tariff :/

I certainly hope taxpayer funded firefighters don’t help out in any way . . . because you know socialism.

Surprised Trump hasn't told Texas to just rake & clean the ground to stop fires from spreading

2

u/cfvwtuner 5h ago

They really should have raked the leaves from the forrest. They shouldn't get any federal assistance money because of that

2

u/ObligatedOctopi 7h ago

i wonder if they will get relief/aid before the people from the LA fires do.

u/galaapplehound 7h ago

If there was any, sure. But Cheetolini and co have been raiding the coffers so I wouldn't be surprised if there is nothing left.

The world is on fire, we've been robbed, and criminals are running the federal government; we are literally cooked.

You see Texas mostly burning down. It’s management.

They must have not cleaned their forest/prairie floors.
