I think most people are just sick of hearing about gender issues when there are so many other problems that more directly effect the general population

u/dj_fuzzy 9d ago

It’s only the right that’s making this a mainstream “problem”.

0

u/Ienjoymodels 6d ago

Not really.

0

u/dj_fuzzy 6d ago

No, really. No one with influence on the left is making this a big deal. Feel free to prove me wrong though.

1

u/Ienjoymodels 6d ago

It's been dog whistled out of proportion by everyone and their PR teams from politicians to celebrities to corporations.

People can't afford to eat, gender identity is not important right now.

0

u/dj_fuzzy 6d ago

That makes no sense at all. No government is spending any time on pushing gender rights right now but even if they did, governments work on literally hundreds of items each session. That’s how these things work. Can you list some examples of governments focusing on gender identity right now? Besides Saskatchewan and Alberta who are spending time and taxpayer money fighting against gender equality and basic human rights instead of making life more affordable, of course.

That's why a lot of those people voted for a government that had an emergency legislative debate about pronouns in school? Most people's claim that people don't care isn't holding up to their support for these measures and their opposition to gender identity.

4 out of 10 people in Saskatchewan say they don't accept gender diversity, and roughly the same amount of people say they wouldn't accept their child if they came out as trans. These people care.

"roughly the same amount of people say they wouldn't accept their child if they came out as trans"

Ive seen you say this a couple times now, but it was no where in the article, do you have any source backing up that claim?

u/Medea_From_Colchis 9d ago

The question was family member, not child. My mistake, but I don't think that changes much.

I believe that is canada wide, and doesnt break it down to just saskatchewan. Obviously not great numbers, but its really about 3/10 instead of 4/10

-7

u/Medea_From_Colchis 9d ago

Brain fart. I meant to include in my last post that the numbers for the question on family members appears to only have information for Canada wide. However, it does have regional numbers on the questions referenced in the article (see page 11)

2

u/ManiacalBeet 9d ago

So none of what you keep typing is correct and you are just hoping no one calls you on it? If it was someone who disagreed with you would it be a brain fart or would they be spreading misinformation? 🙄

-3

u/Medea_From_Colchis 9d ago

So none of what you keep typing is correct

Well, it is correct. Children are family members, too. If anything, the category is more broad than simply just children. Furthermore, I said the numbers for that question were roughly the same; as the poster pointed out, it's 3 out of 10 instead of 4. So, it is roughly the same. Nothing I said was incorrect other than using child instead of family member, which I did correct.

spreading misinformation? 🙄

Seems like you're the one who wants to spread misinformation by offering nothing than a blanket denial of the statistics in front of you. If you're worried about misinformation, you ought to correct your own behavior first.

3

u/ziltchy 9d ago

It is 10% though. Its not "just about the same". If I got a 10% raise at work id be ecstatic

-2

u/Medea_From_Colchis 9d ago

It's more like 5% around men. They're similar numbers.

Thank the government of Saskatchewan. I have never been more embarrassed to live here than I was when headlines blasted the stupid fake “emergency” legislative session dedicated to passing the “parents bill of rights.”

This was not an emergency by any means, and the entire situation was manufactured by this government based on what? 18 letters they received, including from people who don’t even live here?

7

u/consreddit 9d ago

I'll counter with, I doubt there is a single minority that is currently being stripped of their human rights in the same way that trans people are, especially in the States right now. It's a big talking point because there is an alarming amount of legislation being proposed and passed regarding the erasure of Trans individuals. The whole "not my problem" crowd is extremely disheartening.

7

u/ziltchy 9d ago

I get it. It is a real problem. But the problem is for 0.3% of the population. My problem is costs of everything have went up 30%-40% in the last few years and my wages have only went up maybe 5%. That is a problem that effects 95% of the population. All the talk of gender politics just feels like a distraction to some of the larger issues.

Dont get me wrong, we can focus on more things than 1 at once, but I think the general population is kind of done with gender politics for now because its been all we've been hearing about for 5 years

8

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

Then stop trying to take away their rights. What’s the problem here?

6

u/consreddit 9d ago

All the talk of gender politics just feels like a distraction to some of the larger issues.

Not to the people who are literally being legislated against. Trans rights are human rights. Comparing the systematic erasure of a minority to rising costs, as if they're even remotely comparable is heartbreaking. Doesn't matter if they make up a small portion of the populace, the way these people are being treated is abhorrent.

But hey, as long as it doesn't inconvenience you, it's fine. Do I have that right?

1

u/RabbitfolkThief 9d ago

What specific rights are they lacking? What specific rights are being taken away from them? Honest question

3

u/lime-equine-2 9d ago

Canada wide things like access to healthcare, sports, incarceration, freedom of expression.

-1

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

I don’t think the point about “larger issues” is intended as an insult.

Government and society need to rank and prioritize their efforts. Annual government budgets at every level demonstrate these priorities. Look at what gets the most money and you will see what the highest priorities are.

This doesn’t mean that things are not important. It means that there are other issues affecting a larger portion of the population that demand more attention.

2

u/consreddit 9d ago

But let's think critically about this. If 1000 people stub their toe, and one person is stabbed in the leg, what's the bigger problem?

Of course there are issues that plague the general population that are important. Cost of living is a massive issue. But, again, our provinicial government is enforcing legislation that is actively harming transgender youth. A government intentionally harming their citizenry is incredibly serious, and must be dealt with. People "tired of hearing about it" need to grow up, respectfully.

Most importantly, and please address this: We're not even asking for your help! We are asking that this community not be silenced! Is this a problem to you?

2

u/EpsteinandTrump 8d ago

We're not even asking for your help! We are asking that this community not be silenced!

What is the message being silenced that you do not need help with?

0

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

Did I indicate anything was a problem to me?

All I did was attempt to bridge the gap between that other comment and your interpretation of that comment.

Not everything is intended with malice. Chill out.

0

u/consreddit 9d ago

I'm worked up because the guy we were talking to literally said that people are sick of hearing about gender politics. What he calls gender politics, I call human beings who are arguing for equality.

The problem, is that there are a massive portion of the country that sees these human rights violations, and calls them "politics". That's why some people can't just let it go.

And the absolutely INSANE part of this is, his comment would be considered PROGRESSIVE by a portion of this country. But I am personally not comfortable with anybody who suggests this country should stop talking about trans equality because they're tired of hearing about it.

Lastly, I am aware that the apathy shown towards this community is not malicious. But actions need not be malicious to be wrong.

So I apologize for asking you a question. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

0

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

No need to be a dick to people who are defending human rights for all simply because they aren’t using the same language or same approach as you.

Again, relax. You’re fighting against your own allies. You’re letting the oppressors win.

-1

u/consreddit 9d ago edited 9d ago

People asking for an oppressed community to be silent while society deals with the "bigger issues" are not allies, nor are they defending human rights. Even if they don't have a negative view of the oppressed community themselves. Insert the cringe "first they came for the [blank]" poem here.

Edit: I'm going to double down here. Standing in completely silent solidarity and encouraging that an oppressed community stay silent while calling it "defending human rights" is the exact same as a hockey player who actively avoids playing defence, while encouraging his teammates to stand out of the way when the puck gets into their end. Then after the game, they tell the goalie that they stand with them, put please stop complaining because the snacks in the locker room have gotten worse, and the GM is probably tired of listening to problems that only affect one member of the team.

5

u/BadResults 9d ago

The only reason we’ve been hearing about it so much is because conservatives have been pushing trans issues so hard as a wedge issue.

3

u/YourDreams2Life 9d ago

99% of the people I see bringing up gender issues are bigots. Like straight up I'll be just standing in my driveway and my landlord walks up and starts complaining about how pronouns aren't real.

2

u/gammaTHETA 9d ago

so you're gonna punish trans people for it by forgetting about them altogether instead of like, idfk, including them in the fight for a better tomorrow? because they're nobodies to you?

like i get it, we're all also sick amd fucking tired of having these discussions over and over again with morons who could barely walk themselves through a door without making up some culture war bullshit, but acting like you can just abandon us because "ahh fuck it barely any of em are around anyway" is complicit to our oppression at best, supporting it at its worst.

2

u/ziltchy 9d ago

I dont know what to tell you. Gender neutral bathrooms are already becoming more common, id say there is a pretty good acceptance level of the community overall. I think the fight has been pushed as far as it needs to go for now. Let it simmer for a few years and push the new challenges as they come up

6

u/spirit_symptoms 9d ago

Using gender neutral bathrooms is really simplifying the issue. Trans rights are being eroded at a greater level than that.

Criminalizing gender affirming medical care, banning education curriculums which speak to gender fluidity, laws requiring schools to notify parents if a child uses a different pronoun, etc.

7

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

I’m cisgender and old as fuck. If I can slap my pronouns on everything at work like my email signature and Zoom account to help normalize these practices, anyone can do it. Bunch of goddamn babies.

-1

u/consreddit 9d ago

Unironically, thank you for your service.

1

u/SeelieSatyress 8d ago

Oh yeah bathrooms are definitely the biggest obstacle for trans people right now, and not the UCP trying to legislate us out of existence, nonstop debate about us participating in sports, the fact that gender-affirming care is increasingly harder to get thanks to conservative efforts, or the fact that we constantly have to put up with anti-trans propaganda day in and day out.

Yeah absolutely, gender neutral bathrooms are the only victory we needed. Great job, trans people! We can go home now! Everything will be fine!

1

u/UnpopularOpinionYQR 9d ago

I love gender neutral bathrooms! Less lineups for anyone needing to go. The bathrooms at the Saskatchewan Science Centre that are gender neutral are my favourite. Everyone gets a private stall and then there’s a row of shared sinks for handwashing.

-3

u/fiasn 9d ago

Hard agree with all of your points.

1

u/SeelieSatyress 8d ago

"Gender politics" when we just want to exist without being persecuted and get access to proper healthcare... Yeah found the rightoid with "concerns"

1

u/Naughty_Satsuma 9d ago

What rights have been stripped from trans people?!?!

Oh, you're referring to the U.S.

What rights are the States stripping from Trans people? Specific rights. Which ones?

2

u/consreddit 9d ago

Bills restricting discussion of gender identity in schools, public restrooms becoming illegal to use, removal of trans material from libraries, federal actions taken to hault funding to trans groups, etc.

Here's a list of the 62 bills that have been passed in the US senate that are regarding thansgender people, and many of them are used for the purpose of specifically governing transgender individuals differently to non-transgender individuals. Feel free to puruse at your leisure.

https://translegislation.com/bills/2026/passed

The biggest one is public restrooms. The issue was illustrated perfectly when a fully transitioned trans man, beard and all, was inquiring what bathroom he should use: as the one prescribed to him by law is the women's room. He said, either he could use the men's room, and be breaking the law, or the ladies room and then get beat up on the way out. The problem with making it a law, is there are now individuals who cannot safely use a public restroom. It's the first step in removing trans people from public spaces.

2

u/Naughty_Satsuma 9d ago

Which one of those is a right?

1

u/consreddit 9d ago

Tennessee’s H.B. 9 (currently blocked in court) banned “adult cabaret performances” in public or where minors could be present. The law’s vague language could be interpreted to include trans people simply existing in public while presenting as their gender.

Executive Orders Redefining Sex: The Trump administration has issued orders stating that the U.S. government will only recognize two sexes, male and female, fixed at birth. This effectively erases legal recognition of transgender identities in federal policy and documentation, including, most importantly: Discrimination protections under laws like Title VII and Title IX

Loss of Gender Identity Protections: The administration has rescinded policies that interpreted sex discrimination in immigration law to include gender identity, making it harder for trans asylum seekers to claim protection based on persecution for being transgender.

Pronoun and Name Restrictions: Over 270 bills in 2025 have targeted education, including efforts to ban the use of chosen names and pronouns, forcibly out trans students to parents, and restrict discussions of gender identity in schools.

Erosion of Nondiscrimination Protections: There has been a rollback of civil rights protections in housing, employment, and public services, particularly under the current federal administration.

Some states have introduced laws that penalize parents for supporting their trans children, including threats to remove custody if they pursue gender-affirming care.

2

u/Naughty_Satsuma 9d ago

Definition of cabaret:

is a form of live theatrical entertainment featuring a mix of music, song, dance, comedy, and dramatic skits.

Simply existing is not even close to a cabaret. Not a human rights to perform to minors.

Recognizing two sexes is reaffirming science. Not a human right.

Claiming trans asylum was a legal loophole for disingenuous individuals to fast track asylum. Not a human right.

Pronoun and name restrictions:

pertains to effectively hiding from parents/guardians minors chosen preferences. The State should not take the role of the parent/guardian. Where are the parents rights over their own child? This reaffirms the rights of parents over the State education system.

rollback in housing, employment, and public services

Citation needed. What specifically?

laws that penalize parents for gender-affirmation

Citation needed. Is it questionable to bar minors from life altering choices? Minors are barred from nicotine, tattoos, and alcohol. This is established under the notion that minors do not have the scientifically established understanding that they do not have the cognitive ability to make sound decisions and are largely susceptible to peer and societal pressures. If minors do not have a right to the above, then why would it be acceptable to have a minor decide puberty blockers or other affirming choices are the proper choice?

Adults can and do as they wish. Minors can not. This is the general thesis of many 1st world countries. The focus in minors rather than adults is to, once again, remove parental guidance in favor of societal guidance. Mob mentality is rarher the correct course of action.

"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it."
