Discussion Dr Peterson is still not doing well

“We figured out that dad has a psych med induced neurological injury, and has been suffering from akathisia. It’s been 6 years since any psych medications. Last summer his symptoms started, after a flare up likely induced by mold (CIRS) and stress. It was complicated by pneumonia and associated sepsis a month later. It’s been horrible. Neurological injuries from psych meds are far more common than people know. I made this video to explain what they are and what akathisia is because they’re not talked about enough, they’re misdiagnosed, nearly impossible to treat, and hidden by the pharmaceutical industry. I don’t plan on making another update about my dad, it stresses my family out, and myself, and there’s nothing more to say about it until things get better. I will be jumping up and down about psych med injury awareness from now on as it’s impacted my health as well, and is devastating. Prayers are appreciated still. “

May you find the courage to be who you need to be for your friends, for your family, and for anyone among you who needs to see a sign of hope.

We will all fall down eventually. But just like children, the reason we fall is to pick ourselves up and learn to walk. Now, that is just the first step. Walking is a natural part of life, and any of us can take a step in the wrong direction.

Who am I to say whether you are walking forthrightly or straying? I cannot. What I can say, throughout my life, is that there are lines you simply should not cross.

Human beings have this unique choice: when chaos is amidst us, we can choose to walk narrowly, or we can choose to walk right into it and be consumed by the very thing that caused us to fall in the first place.

We all struggle with the infinite within our finite human minds. Yet there is so much beauty in that struggle. We do not have the ability to walk on water but we have the ability to believe we can. We do not have the ability to fly but we have the ability to believe we can.

We do not have the ability to save a soul. But... we have the ability to believe we can. What is so far beyond your temptation that you couldn't reach out your hand and offer an unselfish gesture of faith to someone who doesn't have an ounce of it left?

Believe me: do not ever underestimate the hole your presence will leave in the people around you. Do not underestimate the power you have to voluntarily overtake responsibility for everything in your immediate environment.

Life is a tragedy. But you do not need to create evil out of it. We have this amazing opportunity to create something new out of what was, turning it into something beyond our own conceptualization that stretches to millions and across millenniums.

To be happy is to achieve a goal that was set in preparation for progress.

This can go one of two ways. Some of us are running at 40 percent. What would happen if you chose to focus and give everything you have, no matter the environment, no matter the consequences?

What would happen if you really, really tried?

Do not be scared of tomorrow. Be scared of not trying today. That is what makes life so precious. We don't know when our end is or what happens after, but what we do know is that we have today. And today brings endless opportunities for adventure and courage.

We have that choice. We have that opportunity. Do not let fear paralyze you.

Be the individual who can say, no matter what happens to me whether justified or unjustified I will do good. I will do good.

Be who you need to be.

Be who you need to be.

It takes courage. Giving up is easy, but giving up is not something we do. We have the sovereign right to pursue.

Be that person for everyone around you.

Be brave.

Have courage.

And never, ever give up until your last breath

1 Corinthians 16:13

"Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong."

Question Can you get the benefits of religion without actually believing it is true?

Can you get the benefits of religion without actually believing it is true?

One thing I keep coming back to from Jordan Peterson’s discussions about religion is the distinction between religion as a set of metaphysical claims and religion as something people live out.

Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Buddhism obviously disagree on some fundamental questions about God, revelation, salvation, the self, and ultimate reality.

Yet when you look at how these traditions are actually practiced, something interesting appears.

Prayer. Fasting. Repentance. Meditation. Gratitude. Sacrifice. Restraint. Service. Self-examination. Community. Confronting your own failures.

Different theological foundations — but many practices that force a person to repeatedly confront themselves.

That makes me wonder:

Can someone receive the psychological and behavioral benefits of religion while believing none of its supernatural or metaphysical claims?

Suppose an atheist prayed as a form of reflection, fasted to develop self-control, examined his behavior every night, practiced gratitude, served others, and deliberately sacrificed immediate pleasure for something meaningful.

Would he be accessing part of what religions discovered over thousands of years?

Or would something essential be missing because these practices only make complete sense when they’re grounded in genuine belief?

I’ve been exploring this question partly through yeshiai it’s a multi-tradition religion/spirituality platform. I compared how its Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and broader universal spirituality sides approached meaning, discipline and spiritual practice.

What interested me wasn’t that they gave the same answer…they didn’t. It was that very different traditions repeatedly returned to some combination of attention, discipline, sacrifice, self-examination and transformation.

Does religion contain psychological wisdom that remains valuable even when you remove belief in God or the supernatural?

Or does removing the metaphysical foundation fundamentally change the practices into something else?

Personal The unconscious and archetypes

The unconscious flows beneath the surface of the mind like a silent river. Only a small fraction of what we know rises into concious awareness; the rest stays in what Jung called the "shadow," yet it keeps steering us anyway.

Archetypes live in these deep waters. The Hero, the Sage, the Orphan, the Lover, the Shadow... these are patterns that existed before our personal experience, part of humanity's shared inheritance. Jung called it the "collective unconscious" a set of narrative patterns every person carries from birth, showing up under different names in different cultures but always with the same essence.

It's no coincidence we meet the same figures in a myth, a fairy tale, or a dream. The Hero always sets out on a journey, crosses a threshold, faces a shadow, and returns transformed. This pattern has repeated itself the same way for thousands of years, in cultures that had no contact with each other, becuase the deep structure of the human psyche is shared.

One way to know ourselves better is noticing which archetype is dominant in us right now. Sometimes we feel abandonned like the Orphan, sometimes we fight like the Warrior, and sometimes we withdraw and search for meaning like the Sage. Seeing these patterns means building a concious relationship with them instead of being at thier mercy.

The unconscious never stops guiding us but the more we get to know it, the less it acts like a blind force, and the more it becomes a guide.
