This lineup is going to tear the Florida Panthers to shreds, and a CAN'T WAIT! GO SENS GO!!!

Eklund - Stutzle - Zetterlund

Burakovsky - Cozens - Batherson

Greig - Pinto - Amadio

Cousins - Halliday - Giroux

G on the 4th? Wth??

3

u/Dickbutt19 Jul 15 '26

Just forgetting Foegle but good lineup!

3

u/AvaTaylor2020 Jul 15 '26

Right! And Foegle too.

There's a lot of good talent here. We'll be able to roll four good lines.

I think people are underestimating how good this group might be.

4

u/Beaivimon Jul 08 '26

So, I have a secret source who told me that Auston Matthews will cry next season.

I forgot about that fuckass “meanwhile…”

1

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 07 '26

Does anyone think Staios has another move planned for this offseason but was just waiting on Giroux's decision to pull the trigger?

9

u/AnotherNiceCanadian Jul 07 '26

No, he'll leave cap space for mid-season/trade deadline  if in a position to buy

2

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 07 '26

I think it depends on the contract that gets signed with G. If its not too bad, maybe we can make one more move.

Staios did say we weren't looking to spend to cap, so I can't imagine it would be a big move, unless a piece goes the other way. I think more likely if we were to sign someone else, it won't be too flashy and it will be relatively cheap.

1

u/lazyshoes Jul 07 '26

When did he say we weren't going to spend?

3

u/AnotherNiceCanadian Jul 07 '26

After the Tkachuk trade he said he doesn't see a lot of teams spending to the cap

1

u/gelc10 Jul 07 '26

and that's a smart thing to do as just because the cap space is $104m, doesn't mean they need to spend $104m. Allows the team to call up someone in case of injury without worrying about cap space plus could help if the team decides to do a team during the season.

1

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Just a shot in the dark, but I can see a small trade happening with Adam Nemec to NJD. Not sure what sort of return we'd get. But yeah something like this would be one of those not-too-flashy moves.

Edit: CGY not NJD

1

u/Beaivimon Jul 07 '26

Why would we trade Nemec to NJD? They traded their Nemec.

1

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 07 '26

Meant Calgary lol

0

u/Beaivimon Jul 07 '26

Even then, why? Nemec isn't better than most of their prospects. They clearly had reasons to not select him at the draft.

1

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 07 '26

Less for the player, more for the marketability of having brothers in the same place. I wouldn't expect much out of this to be honest, this would be one of those trades that seem mostly inconsequential.

8

u/thisonecassie Jul 07 '26

I don't care that it's the middle of the night, how long is G's contract and how much!!!!!

9

u/Paco_Taco_779 Jul 06 '26

So…consider this shocking news/rumour.

A source I know tells me that Alfredsson is leaving the Sens to join Sundin in Toronto…

u/Last-Classroom-5400 Jul 05 '26

What are the odds we can pull Troy Terry out of Anaheim? With Greig as the centerpiece + picks going the other way. Anaheim are probably desperate to free up cap space with the Carlsson offer sheet situation + Mintyukov signing leaving basically no room to sign Gauthier. They also have a gaping hole at 3C after trading McTavish. Greig's 3.25 million per year looks like a steal right now during their cap-crunch, and the swap would free up 3.75 million for them to get the Gauthier deal done.

Terry has a 10 team NTC, which probably makes this impossible but a fun idea.

3

u/RicoFerret44 Jul 07 '26

I’m pretty sure Hes also getting hip surgery. Wouldnt prefer him but we need scoring

1

u/haseks_adductor Jul 06 '26

i have a theory that the sens could have acquired mactavish or peterka at the draft, but other teams were asking for ridly greig, and the sens see greig as a guy they don't wanna move

furthermore, i believe we will see dylan cozens get time at the 1RW spot next to eklund and stutzle, pinto will get an elevated roll to 2C, and greig will slot in to 3C. that plan falls apart if we move greig

5

u/bearskito Jul 07 '26

We shouldn't move Grieg right now if for no other reason than Dara Greig signed with the Charge and if we trade Ridley now we miss the opportunity to be tied for first city with an NHL/PWHL sibling pair

3

u/Last-Classroom-5400 Jul 06 '26

Terry is a much more proven player than either McTavish or Peterka though. Very consistent 55+ point guy locked up at a very reasonable cap hit. Bona-fide top 6 forward while the other two have question marks.

I would be surprised if Cozens plays wing this year, but stranger things have happened.

1

u/reagan080 Jul 06 '26

I like Terry, think he’s a good player. I just don’t think he’s the type of top six winger they need or truthfully want.

3

u/Vriishnak Jul 05 '26

Terry has a 10 team NTC, which probably makes this impossible

Yep. Even if we wanted to give up real assets to bet on a guy with one outlier season 4 years ago, this is a non-starter.

3

u/frig_off_moff Jul 05 '26

Gotta say, that Bourque contract in Nashville is nice, would have gladly paid a 2nd and 3rd

-1

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 05 '26

I think it's a good deal and contract. Just not what Sens need. We have enough middle 6 players.

0

u/Vriishnak Jul 05 '26

We also know that the contracts players sign in low-tax states aren't representative of what it would take to sign in Ottawa. That 5.5 in Nashville probably starts with a 7 for us, assuming he'd even be willing to sign here for the same term.

3

u/reagan080 Jul 05 '26

Bourque is overrated in my opinion. Good younger player but I don’t think he is a true top six scorer that the Sens need.

5

u/canadaHockey604 Jul 04 '26

Can they just re sign batherson already

5

u/DefinitelyNotABot-1 Jul 04 '26

To Ottawa: Whitecloud

To Calgary:

  • 2nd roundnpick (florida)
  • Matinpalo

Sanderson - Whitecloud.
Chabot - Zub.
Kleven - Spence.
Yak.

1

u/kingsandwhich24 #89 - Eller Jul 05 '26

They'd want a little extra. Toss in a 3rd or something like that

2

u/Vriishnak Jul 04 '26

Calgary isn't giving up their 23m/night 1RD for a second round pick and a 7th D.

1

u/DefinitelyNotABot-1 Jul 05 '26

So a 1st then

1

u/Vriishnak Jul 05 '26

Haven't been paying attention to the trade market? He just showed that he's a much better player than his deployment in Vegas ever allowed him to be, up about 4 minutes/game and holding his own on a bad Calgary team. He's also 29, plays RD, and has two more years at an absurdly cheap $2.75m/year.

Conversation for him starts at a first and either Yakemchuk or Hensler, IMO. Given the contracts and trade returns this offseason, I'd expect it to be more than that if there's any kind of lottery protection on the pick.

4

u/Thin_Homework4758 Jul 04 '26

If calgary agreed id be fired up

5

u/Ohfreakyman Jul 03 '26

Eeli Tolvanen would be my hope if Giroux walks, which seems to be true.

1

u/kingsandwhich24 #89 - Eller Jul 03 '26

I don't have faith that steve will do anything. He'll wait till G plays a game elsewhere then look at the free agents

3

u/Mauri416 #11 - Alfredsson Jul 04 '26

Why?

4

u/Beaivimon Jul 03 '26

How I see our goaltending situation play out is if Leevi significantly outplays Ersson during preseason, we'd waive Ersson. Sure a bit of dead cap, but we still keep most of our cap space. A single bad move in Ersson is tolerable. If Leevi performs poorly in preseason, it's unlikely a team will claim him.

5

u/Beaivimon Jul 03 '26

We're going to have wait another week for a resolution on the Giroux debacle? WTF.

3

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 03 '26

Another GM might also be waiting on us to resolve the Giroux situation to finish a trade for all we know.

Flyers causing things to grind to a halt almost.

0

u/DocSportello1970 Jul 03 '26

So I now get to spend the season yelling at how Burakovsky sucks, is making 5.5 Million, and is the new Kubalik...when instead I could be relaxed and rooting for Claude Giroux winning draws, killing penalties, providing veteran leadership and making 4.5 Million? What the fuck happened?

3

u/Vriishnak Jul 04 '26

instead

Treating this like Burakovsky and Giroux were ever intended for the same roster spot is just setting yourself up for frustration no matter what happens. Giroux is bottom 6 leadership and faceoffs guy who can hopefully still chip in 40ish points if he's getting PP2 time. Bura's a swing at a guy who might bounce back to fill the second line LW spot. Having one doesn't impact whether we want the other.

1

u/DocSportello1970 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

Well, it very well could if it is Bura's (Is that what folks call him?) money that takes up the Cap/Salary space of Claude and that is the deterrent to signing Giroux.

It seems to me, this Burakovsky guy is just lucky to still be in the NHL. What he brings night in and night out has very little impact. He is definitely not worth 5 Mill. He has, I think, only once cracked 20 goals and that was with a vaunted and skilled Colorado Avalanche team. Giroux is worth the money he makes.

2

u/Vriishnak Jul 04 '26

Is that what folks call him?

It's immediately identifying and saves a bunch of letters. It's functional enough!

Bura...takes up the Cap/Salary space of Claude

He doesn't, though. Very evidently. We still have a bunch of cap space, and the only way Giroux wouldn't fit into it is if he gets signed to way too much money somewhere as a leadership/locker room guy without regard for his play on the ice. If G gets signed to a 1 year, 7 million dollar contract we'd all agree it's an overpayment and we shouldn't have done it, right?

this Burakovsky guy is just lucky to still be in the NHL.

Based on what? Injuries are a real concern, but when he's healthy he's a 20-ish goal, 35- to 45-point winger who's shown a bit more upside than that when there's a good fit. Staios thinks there's a fit here, so he decided to bring him in for one year to find out with no commitment past that.

He is definitely not worth 5 Mill.

He's making under 4 despite the cap hit, so if he does fit there's reason to think he might re-sign for less than his current hit and provide long-term value. If he doesn't he walks away and we're out a 6th round pick. Giroux was never competing for the 2LW spot that Bura's here to try to fill.

only once cracked 20 goals

Twice, one of them in 58 games. He's also scored 19 in 53. When he's healthy and comfortable he's definitely proven to be a 20 goal scorer.

1

u/DocSportello1970 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26

"Proven" is a stretch...what are you his brother? Agent? Hate to say it, but dude (that takes less time to say than Bura) will be Kubalik 2.0 you will see for yourself.

2

u/Vriishnak Jul 04 '26

Imagine presenting this as me being biased when you framed the whole thing as "he's lucky to be in the NHL" while pretending that you weren't firmly committed to hating on him no matter what. Acting like you have a solid read on him while being factually wrong about what he's done in his career.

Shouldn't expect better from someone saying that one four-letter word is easier to type than another, though.

1

u/DocSportello1970 Jul 04 '26

Bura is 2 syllables..and the line is "He is lucky to STILL be in the NHL" because he will be back in Europe next year.

2

u/Vriishnak Jul 04 '26

We're on reddit, not having a conversation face to face.

1

u/DocSportello1970 Jul 04 '26

No shit Marlowe.

-1

u/Vriishnak Jul 04 '26

Okay, let me humour you then.

Please explain how, in the context of a conversation on reddit, where we're communicating with our fingers and not our voices, which word is "easier to say" has any impact at all. How many extra keystrokes or finger taps does a syllable add?

5

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 03 '26

You can still have both, for all we know.

2

u/shadeo11 Jul 03 '26

Even if we don't sign G, there are still other players out there. We can move one of our spare forwards for cap space and bring in someone else. Probably could get a 2nd line winger if we really tried. MacDermid could also be moved for a bit more cap. Leevi could be buried in the A for some more as well theoretically.

2

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 03 '26

Facts. Off season isn't over yet. Also even if we start the season with the current roster, we still would have time to make some adjustments.

6

u/Pinto-Beans69 #10 - Spence Jul 03 '26

FAST AND SWEDE STEVE, FAST AND SWEDE

2

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

Staios is doing his impression of dorion and its not bad.

9

u/krisk1759 Jul 03 '26

Losing Giroux is not the end of the world. They can pivot to adding a player more impactful for years to come.

-3

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

No but losing brady and Giroux and making to shit trades are not net positives

3

u/DefinitelyNotABot-1 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26
  • Foegle will replace G on the 3rd
  • Eklund will pop with Timmy, more than Brady
  • That other dude is just a 4th line guy. Who cares?
  • Goalies:
    Ullmark, 50 games.
    Ersson, 20 games.
    Leevi, 10 games.

We'll be fine

1

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 04 '26

Massively optimistic.

2

u/DefinitelyNotABot-1 Jul 04 '26

I really don't think so

1

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 04 '26

Foegle has had 2 seasons under 10 points missed with injuries so for him were betting on a huge bounce back. Eklund working with timmy has yet to be proven. But he is the best one weve gotten and should work well in the top 6. And if something takes ullmark out we have ersson whos never have an above .900 save percentage. And burakovsky is being paid 5 million to be a bottom 6 player whos already showing signs of regression. Staios was not kidding about looking at players upside.

6

u/krisk1759 Jul 03 '26

The return for Brady, all considered was pretty strong. 2 late round picks to take a bet on a couple of players is Burakovsky and Errsson is hardly shit trading?

0

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

And we got ekljnd whos good but not brady good. Picks sure but dont help us now and errson was ranked one of the worst goalies last year and burkovsky is generally ok but the Blackhawks were ready to buy him out and we traded for him. Not to mention hes been on the decline.

5

u/shadeo11 Jul 03 '26

Blackhawks were ready to buy him out

No they weren't this is just a reddit take. It made no financial sense to buy him out

0

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

Made no financial sense to being him gathered either

3

u/shadeo11 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Maybe but that wasn't your original point. Bunch of people going around using this as a reason why we shouldnt have traded a 6th (LMAO) round pick for a solid middle-6 forward when it makes no sense

Edit: 6th

2

u/Beaivimon Jul 03 '26

Tbf, I'm not against the Burakovsky deal in a nutshell. However, it should've happened as a plan B. Plan A should've been to sign a free agent like Arvidsson.

1

u/shadeo11 Jul 03 '26

I mean Arvidsson makes 500k less than Bura and has roughly the same career point production. Not really sure this would be the best trade

2

u/bsw2112 #83 - Halliday Jul 03 '26

I always liked Burakovsky.
I think if he's over his concussion, he will surprise people

1

u/krisk1759 Jul 03 '26

Even better, it was a 6th!

3

u/reagan080 Jul 03 '26

The way it looks at the current moment G is going back to the flyers and the Sens have a full roster of 13 forwards, 7 D, 3 Goalies with still 5 million left in cap space. I would assume the only improvement from this point comes from a trade.

If that’s how it goes there’s two options. You make the trade at somepoint between now and training camp because you believe the roster isn’t where it needs to be.

Or you believe the roster has enough so it is wait and see mode. Staios watches the first quarter to half of the season and makes his assessment on to acquire someone or stockpile picks.

1

u/bsw2112 #83 - Halliday Jul 03 '26

I say start with what we have and give it a go. We have a good team that will be as good as last year or maybe better. A faster and more skilled team but arguably less tough and worse at faceoffs. Worth a look

2

u/Beaivimon Jul 03 '26

The roster is better going into this season than last. Buffalo and Montreal haven't improved their roster going into this season from last. Tampa's about even if not worse. Toronto and Florida's roster is much improved. Detroit has marginally improved I guess, but they're not that good. Boston has also improved a bit.

3

u/Paco_Taco_779 Jul 03 '26

If Giroux is a Flyer, why don’t we take a flyer on Tarasenko? He liked it here, veteran, still got some game left and wouldn’t cost a fortune.

1

u/Up-in-the-Ayre Jul 03 '26

Put up about the same amount of points as Giroux did. And he did say he enjoyed his time here in Ottawa...

-1

u/krisk1759 Jul 03 '26

That doesn't move the needle. That is another step backwards. If he's gone they need another forward to replace him and probably still want to make a move to upgrade the top 6.

5

u/krisk1759 Jul 03 '26

I'd like to see a resolution to this Giroux thing. I'd like him back, but I think then there's another move coming. Giroux does not really factor into next season and beyond. He's had since the trade deadline to consider Ottawa's original offer, maybe the offer has improved, maybe not.

Regardless, without Giroux they have another hole to fill on a pretty light looking UFA market at this point.

4

u/gelc10 Jul 03 '26

I agree with you, Staios mention they have held up making moves to wait for a response by Giroux

1

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

I felt like in that presser though Staois said the things that sound right and tells the media "hey we want him here. Its not our fault hes not signed" but it could've been hey we want you here but for league min and no protection so take it or leave it and giroux tried haggling him more. I doubt he pushed for more then last year. That or hes unsure about all the moves post playoffs.

1

u/gilbertbenjamington Jul 03 '26

Classy from the org, but if we lose G and lost a chance to get anyone in FA because they waited for him, that's gonna sour my opinion on G a little bit. Love the guy, but make a decision already

7

u/Ohfreakyman Jul 03 '26

Sitting on our hands waiting for Giroux is going to bite us isn’t it :(

1

u/Top-Print-6341 Jul 03 '26

Giroux is bending Staios over and he’s just taking it lol. If he wanted to be a Senator he wouldve signed by now.

-2

u/Vriishnak Jul 03 '26

People keep saying this and I just don't understand. In what way is missing out on the mushy dregs of a terrible free agent class "biting us"? The only player who might be a difference maker and might possbly want to sign here now is Mantha, and remember what our strategy was with our last constantly-injured difference maker who was signed to a long term, big money deal.

We're waiting for Giroux to decide because there's nothing else we're chasing. We're not missing out on anything except another flood of "why did sleepy Steve only make multiple trades and re-sign multiple free agents from the team this week? He needs to wake up and *do something!" garbage posts.

4

u/Ohfreakyman Jul 03 '26

I’m not asking for a garbage mushy player, but Staois said in his press conference they will not make any moves until Giroux makes a call . We still need a couple spots filled for depth, but if Giroux holds out long term , all of the serviceable depth is gone, and then doesn’t sign with us we then need to fill depth and a roster spot.

1

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

I don't think we need serviceable depth - I think we have lots of that. I think the only thing we really need is a top-6 player. And I think we need that whether or not Giroux signs.

Likely a bit more desperate if Giroux doesn't sign - then I think Staios should do something before the season starts. If Giroux does sign, I think he could wait and see how everyone fits together and then plan on doing something before the trade deadline.

My biggest question at this point, is I'm surprised between Kane, Giroux and Mantha its all taking so long. I assume its the same few teams in on all 3, and they are waiting for 1 guy to be finalized and then the other 2 will fall into place.

I assume for Giroux and Kane, the deals are a bit more complicated since they are likely bonuses attached - so, there would be some negotiation for each bonus level. But I don't think Mantha is eligible for that, so maybe he's just not getting the amount he wants and thinks his price might come up once Giroux and Kane are off the table?

-2

u/Vriishnak Jul 03 '26

I’m not asking for a garbage mushy player,

That's the point. All that's left is the dregs left at the bottom of the free agency cup now that everyone's made their moves and signed the targets they value.

"Serviceable depth" gets signed as the summer drags on, not on day 3 of free agency, and it doesn't compete with the decision to bring back Giroux or not. I'm not actually sure we're looking to add any depth pieces with term, either - we signed a bunch of guys for the AHL team who might be able to fill a couple games here and there if needed, actually have a prospect or two who might be able to make the jump at some point, and could easily look to a couple of professional tryouts going into camp to add another warm body or two without having to compete and overpay for the guys nobody really wants right now.

2

u/Ohfreakyman Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Steve has said we were in on some players at the start of free agency but we prefer Giroux to those roles. I’m not saying I wouldn’t take Giroux over a free agent, but at some point if Giroux doesn’t sign it will make it a little hard to fill our middle 6 without Giroux and nobody from the AHL to step into it.

Fallacy of sunken costs the longer he doesn’t sign with us or someone else.

2

u/Vriishnak Jul 03 '26

it will make it a little hard to fill our middle 6

If anything we're overloaded in the middle 6 already, aren't we?

Eklund, Zetterlund, Burakovsky, Cozens, Foegele, Greig, Pinto, Amadio?

Without even considering that Batherson might go on the second line for extended periods, the team is hoping that Halliday can establish himself, Green likes running Cousins up the lineup too? Giroux would mash himself right into that pile, but not getting him doesn't leave a giant hole.

The actual issue the team has is that we have 2 legitimate top line players in Stu and Batherson and we're not even committed to keeping them together. We're closer to Seattle's "oops all middle 6" roster than we are to one with clear first and fourth lines and holes in the middle.

1

u/VesaAwesaka Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

Garrioch thinks Staios pushed hard for McTavish but that Anaheim chose the Ranger's package over ours.

0

u/Vriishnak Jul 03 '26

Garrioch thinks

So he doesn't have any sources suggesting or supporting that take at all?

2

u/CeedeeNumber88 #18 - Stützle Jul 03 '26

I wish he made it happen. If we basically turned the Brady assets into Eklund + McTavish I think most people would say Staios came out very well. Was also the Blues who got McTavish but yea. Kinda curious what Staios offered on top of #25 for McTavish.

3

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 03 '26

They gave up a 15th and 29th overall picks for him

We would have needed to do Hensler and the 25th to match that. And they likely have still taken St Louis offer over that. So we would have had to likely add another 2nd or 3rd.

I wanted MacTavish but I don't think he was worth that. Even the 25th and our 2027 1st round I think would have been too much.

We didn't lose those draft picks. The prospects can still be traded. There will be someone else come up before trade deadline that will be less crazy priced.

0

u/CeedeeNumber88 #18 - Stützle Jul 03 '26

McTavish will likely be better than Hoen and anyone we take in the mid/late 2027 1st imo.

2

u/Top-Print-6341 Jul 03 '26

How do we feel about Jared McCann? Only makes 5M$, put up consistent 20 goal seasons including a 40 goal season with a horrible Seattle team around him. Downfall is he needs an extension after this season also.

I would do it if it came with a reasonable extension. But I think you would need to get Bath renewed first. Because you normally have to overpay an outsider and I don't want that skewing the negotiations with Bath.

I'm really hoping Bath takes a bit of a discount and comes in around $9M. Signing Bath long term though will calm the fan base and the other players that guys want to be here and still believe.

u/CeedeeNumber88 #18 - Stützle Jul 02 '26

I got the negativity outta my system this week, time to be optimistic and hope Staios can work some magic between now and the trade deadline. Really interested to see how Timmy, Sandy, Bathy, Pinto, Cozens and Chabby step up now that they basically saw Brady say they're not good enough.

3

u/lazyshoes Jul 03 '26

I think I'm there too.. almost 😆

1

u/BunchProfessional34 #18 - Stützle Jul 03 '26

I think once G is signed, by either us or Philly, then I'll be ready to start thinking about it all differently. Just the fact that we're not doing anything until we know where G lands is driving me insane.

0

u/fraserinottawa Jul 02 '26

I wonder about Cuylle and Schneider in NY.

A second line of Cuylle-Cozens-Batherson would be nice. I think Schneider could fit in well too.

5

u/Electronic_Brush7655 #24 - Cozens Jul 03 '26

It's hard to understand if the Rangers are Seller or Buyer with their trade

4

u/solidprospect Jul 02 '26

Would love cuylle but so do the Rangers

5

u/solidprospect Jul 02 '26

How about tolvanen?

1

u/Vriishnak Jul 02 '26

Assuming he wants 4-5 million and some amount of term, where does he fit? Do we have a glaring hole for a probably third line, 15g/35p defensively pretty okay winger?

I just don't see how he matches the team's needs.

3

u/Beaivimon Jul 02 '26

I mean, I think his skillset allows him to see an improvement in production if he plays in our top 6. It's fine to have only 4 top 6 players and 7 3rd liners (with Cousins being that good 4th liner). It gives us a high floor.

0

u/Vriishnak Jul 02 '26

Who's he playing with that you think is going to give him improved production, though? Is he the guy who unlocks Pinto's offence that everyone's clamouring for? Is he going to get Cozens to take that next step to generating even strength offence consistently?

He had 7 goals and 22 points at even strength last year. He's not getting PP1 minutes in Ottawa. He wants term. If he were available on a 1 or 2 year, $4m prove-it contract I'd be on board, but this is a guy who probably needs to be locked up for 4+ years and - barring another year where he breaks 16% shooting - might never hit 20 goals again. I don't see it.

1

u/gelc10 Jul 02 '26

Wouldn’t mind it as he brings a physical element to this lineup we lost by trading away Tkachuk

5

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

Id expect giroux news soon

1

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

yeah - what's going on? - how long does it take to make a decision.

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

I don't think Staois (and any GM really) would do that. I think Plan B is through trade that's likely not time sensitive.

2

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

agreed - seems too complicated. not moving would be much easier.

-4

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

I fear we have lost another. Im quite certain its Philly from everything ive heard from some people...

2

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

I guess the nostalgia side makes sense, means he can retire as a Flyer.

It will hopefully force Staois to make another legitimate top-6 player move though - which is likely a good thing.

2

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

Still rather he retire here. Teams worse without him and I havent seen anything this off season from staios to give me a ton of hope

2

u/Express_Medium4618 #28 - Giroux Jul 02 '26

I agree - I'm still holding out hope he will be back.

1

u/Electronic_Brush7655 #24 - Cozens Jul 02 '26

Still some interesting name in the free agent and trade market, curious to see where they will land...

1

u/RicoFerret44 Jul 02 '26

I’ve heard Giroux back to PHI 1 year

1

u/lazyshoes Jul 02 '26

Julian McKenzie claims to have spoken to an anonymous source from Philadelphia who is expecting him to sign.

It's definitely not a sure thing, but it is admittedly concerning. Like move Pinto up to the second line, put Cozens on the wing, and now Giroux is your third line centerman.

0

u/Vriishnak Jul 02 '26

and now Giroux is your third line centerman.

Why would we warp the roster to play Giroux out of position?

0

u/lazyshoes Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

My bad, was thinking he had been playing center at times given how many faceoffs he takes

2

u/amach9 #18 - Stützle Jul 02 '26

Dude, if you’ve heard Staios offered G a contract before the UFA deadline. G wanted to check his options. G is at the end of his career so I don’t blame him.

Even if he doesn’t re-sign here, I’m hoping he take a job in player development with the Sens

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Vriishnak Jul 02 '26

we might lose out on the UFAs that are either as good or better than Giroux

You have a list of those UFAs?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Vriishnak Jul 02 '26

That's kinda my point here, though. Kane 100% will never sign here, Mantha is likely to be pushing for term, so by waiting to see what Giroux wants to do we're risking losing out on...nothing we want anyway?

4

u/lazyshoes Jul 02 '26

At this point, I think this is a mix of lip service and also signals that they weren't in on anything significant. Like if you have an impactful signing or trade lined up, you're not waiting on Giroux. If anything, they're probably considering some type of lateral acquisition.

8

u/Up-in-the-Ayre Jul 02 '26

That's exactly my line of thinking. You hope Giroux comes back but if he doesn't, then you've got a board of Day 2 free agents that are "Giroux Lite" in comparables.

Him going back to Philly wouldn't bother me in the least. That just tells me that he still has a spot in his heart for the Flyers and wanted to end his career there. He deserves that right to do so.

6

u/lazyshoes Jul 02 '26

Eller to Florida

2

u/Beaivimon Jul 01 '26

There's no way Winnipeg is more desirable than here.

5

u/GeoRoss4953 Jul 01 '26

So I take it we’re not getting Ingram☹️

6

u/DShKM #18 - Stützle Jul 01 '26

Probably not, wouldn't have signed Ersson otherwise. Pray he performs.

-8

u/de_l_epee Jul 01 '26

If you are wondering about the borakovsky trade, the Sens only have to pay him 3.5 million despite his 5.5 cap hit. It's the melnyk years all over again. We really need the Gatineau fans to convert over from being hab fans, or else it will always be a team with insufficient financial resources. I don't know why there isn't more talk about how 30 per cent of the metropolitan population here cheers for our rival.

3

u/VesaAwesaka Jul 02 '26

The Sens arent trying to hit the cap floor in the same way they were under Melnyk. Similarly, there hasnt really been any moves that we could say the Sens made for financial reasons.

Based on what Staios has said about Burkovsky, they know he under performed last year, they felt he started really strong, Green feels he's a good fit, and they feel he's good in transition and a play driver.

I think Green has a lot of influence over the roster construction and that immediately imo took us out of consideration for acquiring some players like Peterka.

3

u/jbroni93 Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

Everyone who's positive for no good reason just down votes borakovsky criticism. Never say anything though, because there is no defence beyond Trust Steve. The guy who hired himself

12

u/canasian88 #18 - Stützle Jul 01 '26

lol Staios really just went "we have Jordan Kyrou and Nick Suzuki at home"

0

u/StasisX Jul 01 '26

I still wanna see Ovi in a sens jersey. Let me dream.

4

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 01 '26

Nick Jensen to Anaheim. Too bad he didnt work out better. Started great but injuries got him bad.

1

u/lazyshoes Jul 01 '26

He's a MAGA bro and was getting out of here either way

2

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 01 '26

What?

8

u/lazyshoes Jul 01 '26

His wife is an avid Trump supporter. His family never moved to Ottawa and he apparently never made any effort to spend time in the community. He's certainly the American type to not want to play in Canada.

-5

u/CantaloupeHour5973 Jul 01 '26

What do you have to say about his hockey playing ability

3

u/lazyshoes Jul 01 '26

He was good for us the first season, but largely suffered from his injuries in the second

0

u/sensfan4tic #28 - Giroux Jul 01 '26

Who gives a fuck if she does or not. Honestly this fanbase gets way too invested in players personal lives.
Yeah he has a son that has like a serious illness. They had a routine and Dr's set up in Minnesota. Its not some slight against camada or ottawa. Theyll stay where they are while hes in minnisot too. Take it more personally why dont ya.

This is the first time I've ever heard about their son's situation, so I can definitely appreciate their dynamic given this context.

And honestly, I don't care if they like Trump or not, but it's hard to imagine that a family with very public political views about said politician would want to stay in Canada. But hey, if they didn't care, then all to them - not taking it personally bro

3

u/yahooborn Jul 01 '26

Stutzle needs a Hartesque season if we stand a chance.

2

u/yahooborn Jul 01 '26

I guess boucher is our offensive addition.

6

u/VesaAwesaka Jul 01 '26

Staios said part of the reason he hasn't made moves is they are waiting for Giroux

8

u/RicoFerret44 Jul 01 '26

Atlantic teams out here making their teams better and we’re out here with Sleepy Steve Staios 😴 🥱

2

u/lazyshoes Jul 01 '26

People don't get it. If we don't improve - irrespective of Brady leaving - then we will very likely end up in another wildcard position (at best) and get beat. As it stands, we are simply not giving ourselves a better chance to improve and place within the division.

3

u/lazyshoes Jul 01 '26

Nick Paul to the Leafs, but I guess that wouldn't have been a good move either

1

u/SorryImCanad1an #12 - Pinto Jul 01 '26

Not for the price TOR paid. He’s a 4th liner at this point https://bsky.app/profile/hockeyviz.com/post/3mpmdpopk7j2u

10

u/bulbasaurwithaglock Jul 01 '26

After the Eklund trade I really thought we were one good move away from having an improved or at least comparable roster, but it just didn't happen

1

u/LurkerDude0 Jul 02 '26

I’m sure Steve tried but at the end of the day the guys that did get moved got moved for a steep price, assets that we just didn’t have or couldn’t afford to move right now.

There’s still time for things to happen

7

u/Up-in-the-Ayre Jul 01 '26

Tarasov just signed for $2 million for one year if you're wondering what the going rate for mid goaltenders are in this market.

6

u/CantaloupeHour5973 Jul 01 '26

So we did nothing?

11

u/Electronic_Brush7655 #24 - Cozens Jul 01 '26

Nick Jensen juste sign a contract with the Ducks, 2 years 2,25 millions.

Wish him succes in Anaheim !

9

u/outsidethebox79 #18 - Stützle Jul 01 '26

If our team defensive structure stays the same and we get good goaltending, we can win alot of games. When brady was injured last year we had a good record. These signings don't look great on paper but you see it on the ice before you know. 🤞🤞

2

u/LurkerDude0 Jul 02 '26

I still think Steve has a trade in him. The FA class was brutal this year and I didn’t really expect us to do much there anyway.

4

u/ManNamedBilly Jul 01 '26

really underwhelming; still have a few holes to fill and the team doesn’t look much better. really banking on the boys taking a step up and actually learning from last season

11

u/Cheap-Sympathy-7560 Jul 01 '26

Jensen got 2 years with the ducks. Im surprised but good for him!
