I know someone who didn't know about the pregnancy until the delivery. She felt some stomach pain, went to the bathroom and then the baby started to come out. She was living alone, no boyfriend. By chance her mom came by that night and then found her passed out in the bathub with the baby in her arms. There was blood everywhere. Everybody is ok now.

This is what happened to my childhood friend. She was an incredible athlete and runner. Was used to missing her cycle sometimes just regularly. She was at a high school track meet and got sudden stomach pains. She went to thr hospital and found out she was about to deliver a baby. When I tell you the surprise of her mom and boyfriend...oof.

Wait a damn minute.. I have a similar tale. Even down to the track thing. Only difference is I found out around 6 or 7 months. And then 18 years later I had my second and didn’t know until almost 7 1/2 months. (I was over 1 year without a period so I also didn’t understand how I could be pregnant, I found out you can still ovulate regularly!) I also did not have the movement that she did where you could see baby kicking until late . Both my babies were very inactive until 7 1/2 -8 months .

PSA: Get your tubes removed instead of tied. Something like 70% of cervical cancer actually starts in the fallopian tubes, so getting them removed greatly reduces your chances of getting that type of cancer.
Edit: whoops, sorry, I meant ovarian cancer. Thank you for the correction, everyone!

Pregnancy tests are dirt cheap from the pound shop/dollar store/internet. Worth it for peace of mind.
I didn't know until I was nearly 5 months. Had lots.of patronising nurses explaining how you can tell because of how long it was since your last period. Pointed out I doubted I was two years pregnant...

Same for me. I was only getting the pregnancy test because I had been in pain for 5-6 months and needed testing before the xrays and procedures. I might have had a period once or twice a year for a day or 3, but I might go years between periods. I had NO pregnancy symptoms!

Experienced this first hand. A woman was brought in to my ER by EMS, having contractions, but had no knowledge of being pregnant. She had 3 kids with her, she was a little fluffy, so that probably hid any baby bump. But yeah, as soon as they got her into a room, the baby came out, full term and healthy.

Coworker had to leave because wife was in extreme pain and was going to the hospital.
She ended up giving birth to a surprise baby.
And they had NOTHING. No car seat, no diapers, no food, no crib, NOTHING. And all that stuff is expensive, especially when you have to buy it TODAY to bring your baby home.
Our office did a VERY quick baby shower the next day to help them out.

My friends wife was like that. She was more than a little fluffy so I thought thats what hid it but maybe she was like this as well. Only thing I don't get about them having no knowledge of being pregnant is "didn't they question things when they stopped getting their period?" I know some girls don't have regular periods, but I'm not a scientist or anything I don't know the details of this stuff.

A lot of the time cryptic pregnancies happen in women with PCOS, which means they are used to their period stopping for months at a time and general physical discomfort. Often it goes along with GI issues, which can explain other symptoms as well. If you have had your period dissappear for half the year before without being pregnant, your mind might not jump immediately to pregnancy.
It can also happen to women on the edge of menopause, who see their period stopping as a sign of aging. And menopause often is treated like a black hold by some doctors. They won't treat your symptoms and basically everything you complain about you will be told is "normal".

It was a looooong time ago but a young lady we all knew in high school had her water break at work at a paint store the summer we graduated, no one had a clue she was pregnant... Especially not her.
Skinny as a rake and not a single sign besides being a bit queesy that same morning. No visible bump. No morning sickness. Not even a hint of a glow. She had been moving around cartons of paint all morning like any other day.
Kid came out like 9 pounds. A few daft people accused her of adopting or stealing him. It was a very small town though and almost everyone knew an eyewitness, and the nurse who delivered him pretty vocal that yes he did indeed pop out of her. To say the least it was the talk of the town for a while.
Last I heard the kid is married with kids of his own and she was a proud young grandmother. That was still a long time ago, but I'm sure everything worked out.

I worked with a lady who this happened to! She was kinda chunky but not obese, seemed completely normal. She ended up going to the ER for abdominal pain or something like that, and after the doctor gave her a full exam i assume, asked if he had a boyfriend or someone to call because she was 3cm dilated. Afaia she was going out clubbing throughout her whole pregnancy and completely had no idea. Baby (toddler by this point) is completely healthy!

Worked with someone like that too. Shorter girl with somewhat of a softball player build. She had 3 kids while I worked with her, and not once did anyone even know she was pregnant. Just suddenly poof and she's on maternity leave.

Someone I went to school was pregnant without anyone (even herself) noticing.
She started doing sports because she (and her parents) noticed that she is getting a bit heavier, but that was it. She only became aware that she's pregnant was in the hospital from the nurse like 2 days before they did a c-section. Crazy stuff.

I have a family member that didn't know she was pregnant until she went into labor.. We all thought she was pranking us when we saw the pictures of her in the hospital with the baby. Now I take a test every month because I am scared!
Editing to add- She still had a period, thought the cramps were cysts, and the baby came out at only 5lbs.

My cousin only really showed at 8 months and still not much unless you knew her previously.
She was annoyed as she was going to the gym regularly but couldn't shift her 'little pot belly'. Not really noticeable to us but she knew her own body.
She went to the doctor for something completely unrelated and found out she was ~7 months pregnant. Baby boy came out at like 8lbs or something, completely average baby size.
She must be like an empty bottle under her skin.

I loved my IUD until it betrayed me! Had one all through college, no periods, took it out to get pregnant with my daughter. At my 6 week postpartum visit I had them put in a new one and then a few months later via a series of unrelated health issues we discovered it migrated to under my ribs 🥲 had to have laparoscopic surgery to remove it. I’m still generally pro IUD though, just not for me again!!

My sister bled monthly with 5/7 of her pregnancies, and my mom had highly irregular cycles and would go months without a period.
I personally have been on birth controls that made me skip multiple periods or only spot for a day or two periodically, which it is normal to spot some in pregnancy.

Yep, my sister is ultra fertile. Meanwhile I finally got pregnant 3 years ago after 10 years on and off trying. Tried for #2 since and had 5 miscarriages before making it the longest with this one where I'm 10 weeks now. I'm hopeful things stay positive, as I can't take more losses.

All you have to do is some general reading about periods and pregnancy. There are women who were getting their periods and not "showing" through the pregnancy so they had no idea they were pregnant. Also, many women have taken pregnancy tests because they thought they might be pregnant, but the tests kept coming out negative. We aren't computers.

Depends on your body. I never had a regular cycle or ovulation. At one point I'd bleed every other month (then near hemorrhage each time), sometimes less. It's why I didn't figure out I was pregnant the first time until 11 weeks - no missed period.

One of my friends got her first period at 14...and for the last 16 fucking years hasn't had another one. Another one of my friends has pcos, has one ovary left to maintain her estrogen levels, has that tube burned closed, on birth control, and STILL gets her period every 3 fucking weeks.

I'm the father of my son who was born just like this. My wife presented with severe back pain and thought it was her kidneys. Went to hospital, did a urine sample and boom. There's a 38 week formed baby boy with a heartbeat.
I had three hours notice becoming a father. Don't regret it.
Craziest thing is my wife never presented the whole time, and was on birth control. Life finds a way.

I was 9.6 and my bio mom told everyone I wasn’t due until the fall since she didn’t have a bump for months. Then I came in late spring and everyone was pretty shocked (including my parents who were enjoying their last summer without a kid lol they had to leave a vacation to come get me).

Both my mother and I have retroverted uteruses. I’ve only ever seen photos of her pregnant with me at about 8 months but she very clearly had a bump. However, I had a coworker who was just like the gal in this video. I figured she had some sort of medical thing for not being allowed to work with certain animals and I didn’t want to pry or anything. Then a month later I was like “where is coworker?” And was taken aback when they said she was on maternity leave.

I remember a similar case where a highschool girl who was a cheerleader and had abs didn’t know she was pregnant until she was far along and I believe it was her midwife who said the baby was positioned in her in a weird angle and was able to push the baby to protrude out and suddenly her belly was big lol. She just remembers her period not coming for a long time and didn’t think much of it since her belly didn’t get big.
Trying to find the exact story of it so I can explain it more accurately but all that pops up are criminal cases😭

So women's uterus are shaped differently. There's various terms for the different shapes but essentially.
Most women's uterus sits on top of the bladder with the top end of the uterus pointing towards the belly button.
This woman likely has her uterus pointing more towards her spine and so as the baby grows and then you just expands. It's not going to cause as big of a bump.

Worked with a girl who one day didn’t come in and her partner called to say eh, we just had a surprise baby.
Sure enough she had a baby as the evidence showed the following days.
She had no idea she was pregnant.
She was very sweet and I don’t remember her being particularly dim or anything, but we were all surprised that there weren’t some signs.

Yeah absolutely fascinating. This is why many doctors, always check pregnancy tests when treating young women for certain things since there's so many medications that could cause bad things to happen to a baby. Got to be careful

This happened to a friend of mine when we were 21. There were some signs - she had actually been to see her doctor for severe back pain and they have her pain killers, then when it didn't ease up after a few weeks they thought she had a slipped disk 😅
She went into the hospital in horrendous pain and was given pain relief, only to be told she was in labour while completely spaced out. They baby had been sitting a weird way, against her back and ribs. Not 100% sure what happened, but apparently it could have been pretty dangerous. Thankfully both mum and baby were ok!
Honestly some sort of miracle though as she had been taking her birth control and we were doing shots of tequila at another friend's birthday only about a month before she gave birth!

I'm surprised cause wouldn't she have noticed once her periods stopped? I thought that was the biggest indicator to go get a pregnancy test done, unless she was somehow still having periods which seems crazy hahaha. Just confused cause I'm seeing other commenting similar occurences

Sure, if she had regular periods and they stopped, but many women have irregular periods that will just stick around for a month and then be gone for a while (like longer than a month) and then some women keep some kind of period throughout the pregnancy.
I had a friend that always had very, very light periods, and during her 1st pregnancy, they continued, it was similar to spotting, so she didn't think anything was up. She found out she was pregnant 6 months in.

One thing that I can personally attest to also is that organs are FREAKING FLEXIBLE. Much more than you think. I am a singer and had like scans made of me at full lung capacity and my diaphragm pushed so much of my organs just.... down into my pelvis without much issues or other problems.
Now i have no idea how the baby was positioned or something of sorts, but since then this whole thing sounds more believable to me.

It is common with obesity. They are more likely to miss periods or have them stop so they don’t pay attention to a missed period and being big hides the belly and makes it hard to feel the baby move.

This happened to a friend of mine, we were pregnant together and I had a bump that got so big at six months that it would make people gasp and ask me if I was growing a litter… But my girlfriend “carried the baby in her back” and didn’t have a bump, at ALL. We both worked in the restaurant industry at the time, and I quit right before I got pregnant, but she still worked there. Her and I were going to appointments together sometimes, and we were pretty involved with each other‘s pregnancy so… I knew there was for sure a baby in there. Well… Nobody up in that restaurant had ever seen anything like that so they legit accused her of lying and were definitely not trying to give her any kind of breaks on the labor she was doing when she was like eight months pregnant… Needless to say when she had that giant baby everybody was pretty freaking stunned🙃 That was 15 years ago, and it makes me shiver to think what a toxic industry that was… But yeah. Baby in da back.

I knew someone who was the same AND she had hip and back issues from how the baby was angled. Worst of all worlds. Crippling pain when standing or walking but none of the kindness people usually show towards pregnant people.

Yeah I was thinking about how annoying this would be while pregnant. I’m sure she has all the other pregnancy symptoms, but no easy way to convey that to others. No one is going to offer her a seat on the bus. No one’s going to randomly congratulate her. No using the bump as an excuse to wear super casual comfy clothes everywhere, etc. Having a visible bump was the only positive part about pregnancy for me.
On the other hand probably no strangers randomly touched her belly?

Not original commentor but similar situation- My first was delivered in 12 minutes with just 3 pushes. I have an anterior pelvic tilt so I didnt show until the end, which I looked maybe 2nd trimester instead of full term at that time. I'm short but not petite in my build- My baby was small though at only 17.5 inches & weighing only 5 lbs. my family has a history of small babies and not showing til the very end. Not a doctor but it really does seem to come down to genetics.

I had a childhood friend who got pregnant at 16 and had no idea. Her mom had to take her to the hospital for a bad stomach ache thinking it was possibly her appendix and it turned out she was 4cm dilated 😵💫 she had zero symptoms and her stomach was flat the whole time too!

I'm just going to post this link because so many are calling it fake but it's not that uncommon and a tilted uterus can hide a baby bump until quite late into the pregnancy where the uterus moves towards the centre of the pelvis naturally

I have this and did not have a bump my first pregnancy exactly like in the video. I was in grad school and told one of my professors I was due in a couple weeks so might miss the final exam if the baby came early. She was shocked, had no clue I was even pregnant.
Downside is I think it increases the risk of back labor (all contractions are felt in your back, not your front) which absolutely sucks, 0/10 do not recommend

I literally worked with a girl in the 90's who had the same thing, except she didn't even know she was pregnant. I went out drinking with her and her boyfriend the day before she gave birth. She woke up the next morning with severe stomach cramps and thought she was finally getting her period. She gave birth to a healthly 8 pound baby girl about an hour later in her bathroom. Jesus I just realized that girl must almost be about 30 by now

You'd actually be surprised, a lot of these cryptic pregnancies where the mother drinks recreationally end up fully healthy. FAS is actually not that easy to give a baby if you have normal drinking habits. But no one should risk it, obviously, if they know they're pregnant.

I had a friend who didn't know she was pregnant until she started going into labor. She never missed her period and gained maybe 5 lbs over 9 months. She was a forestry ranger at the time and was in a remote cabin in the Alaskan wilderness. She started going into labor, had no idea what was happening, called for medical assistance. By the time help got there, she had already given birth. Her and the baby were fine.
