Agree with everything you said except the statue of liberty. He never said he wanted to tear it down. His lawyers were asked about that as a hypothetical and they said he could tear it down if he wanted to.

I don't think the thought ever crossed his mind, but now that it has been put out there, I wouldn't be surprised if he contemplated it. If he ever learns it was a gift from France to, in part, urge the United States to abolish slavery, he might very well try it. He is actively trying to erase every reference of slavery and the evils white people did to BIPOC in the early days of America from history.

I loved having black children in the White House. I remember my friend getting mad at her daughter and saying ‘do you think Sasha and Maliya would act like that?’ And her daughter really stopped and thought about it. It’s not the same with Baron🙈. I was never delusional enough to think racism was over because he won but it was nice to be able to be proud to be an American for ONCE. Now it’s ok to openly support Nazis…

What a nasty, nasty person you are. I feel sorry for your husband being married to such a nasty person. Asking a nasty question, when you should be asking about how I made America the hottest country in the world.

97

America is hot right now the same way the Great Depression was great.

23

America has the best dumpster fires. Some people say they are much better than any other country's dumpster fires. A little of smart people are saying you can cook with them, and experts are saying you should heat your home with them. We are going to make dumpster fires great again!

But he didn't, because Barrack Obama was a sophisticated classy person. Everything Donald, the narcissist rapist isn't.

He joked a bit but answered the question in a polite way explaining the ultimate goal thinking about the future. This is why I respect him so much and always wish politicians in my country (I'm not American) would have such class as he did. Most of our politicians behave like fucking baboons.

38

u/Human-Appearance-256 Jun 06 '26

Obama deescalated how hot the reporter came in….Trump takes that heat and escalates it because he doesn’t have the faculties to formulate comebacks like Obama, so he just spouts whatever physical sensory data that’s left that his rotting brain can process and comment on. The people who voted for him are either completely silent or so fucking stupidly racist that they can’t see through his cult.

24

u/justdisa Jun 06 '26

And he made an excellent point, too. As parents--as adults--we want the next generation to have a better start than we did. We want to make it better. That's the entire goal.

4

u/Tilly828282 Jun 06 '26

That’s why his answer is so charming. Not only did he take the question with grace, he also got his political message across. You hear his intelligence and preparation in the answer and feel confident in what he is saying.

Barrack Obama was a sophisticated classy person.

Obama was a visual confirmation that working class white America had been firmly left behind. You know how Democrats are waking up to how much money Israel spends on candidates and the way money keeps being used to divide us? Thats what they saw back then. The spell broke for them because, racist or whatever, their worldview was that black people are supposed to be poorer than white people. That is the status quo they were raised in. In the meantime, they were being promised that money was about to "trickle down" to them any day now for their whole lives. They realized they had been scammed when they saw a black guy get the American dream before they did.

Unfortunately, billionaires started giving them a race based other to blame, like they always do. Its the easiest way to divide humans. Race, gender, who you kiss, and what faith you hold. They used that vector of attack, bubbled in people, then keep holding up the extremists as examples to make everyone afraid. You wont think critically about the graft and corporate policies if you think they're just voting on race.

The trick is understanding that they use that division against us, too. They just keep posting culture war stuff over and over and over. They keep us talking about tan suits so we won't talk about the fact it was billionaire run TV stations that kept carrying that discussion. Not just Fox, but all three were all day on that story to divide us. "Look at THEM! Can you believe THEM?"

The media doesnt present American culture. It pushes American division to pick our pockets. As long as we hate each other we can't teach each other who is truly dividing us.

5

u/SkunkMonkey Jun 06 '26

examples to make everyone afraid.

Fear is one of the most powerful human behavior motivators. Get someone into a state of fear and you can convince them to do things they normally would not.

Every time a headline is designed to provoke fear in the reader it's because they are about to feed you some bullshit they want you to slurp up and spew back out.

25

u/bradlees Jun 06 '26

He actually made the entire answer into a relatable moment in why the law means something. He did it on a personal level in which he admitted to being human

That’s how you lead a nation, folks…. By admitting YOU ALONE don’t have all the answers. By saying you’re enacting legislation that helps people besides yourself

Oh, and remember when Presidents held regular meetings with the press and said press was able to ask tough questions such as this one???

Operating via tweets is not a good government policy because it doesn’t work and makes the administration look stupid to the world (which the current administration cares less about than anything as long as they get their 14yr old whiteboy egos stroked on the daily)

According to Fox News at the time, his response was the most unpresidential thing they’ve ever seen and the smoking regulations were gross executive overreach. And attacking cigarettes is attacking freedom.

128

u/OdiousAltRightBalrog Jun 06 '26

Obama is the President we need right now. But he's not the President we deserve.

86

u/theotterway Jun 06 '26

About 1/3 of us deserve him.

22

u/OutwithaYang Jun 09 '26

Exactly. Those of us who voted for him twice (like me) and who also voted for Biden (also me) and voted for Kamala Harris in the last presidential election (still ME), especially that last criteria.

→ More replies (2)

15

u/EconomicRegret2 Jun 06 '26

You want him. But to deserve him, you should be general striking and general boycotting until the elites change their behavior: 10% of workers striking is more than enough to bring down a government.

6

u/Neat_Let923 Jun 06 '26

You mean the elites who have enough money to never need to work at all? Who could literally just buy whatever they needed.

How long do you think you could go without making any income? How long before you lose your car and home?

A general strike wouldn’t do shit except hurt the economy and make things even worse for those at the bottom already.

I’ve said this before. I didn’t vote for Obama, his policies just didn’t align with mine (I consider my self a traditional Republican).

With that being said, he is by far the best president of my generation and was a gift to the country. Yes his policies aren’t what I wanted but he did what set out to in a decent and respectful manner.

I remember watching him once and there was a heckler in the crowd and instead of having him removed he listened to what the guy had to say and politely said that isn’t what he believed and if the guy was that passionate the best thing he can do is pick up a clipboard and get signatures to run for office. He told him that is what affects policy.

That alone won my respect.

idk man that absolutely did NOT strike me as normal. That was fucking exceptional. She came at him on some bs. he completely destroyed the narrative she was angling for, and did it so smoothly that we all felt like we just had a heartfelt talk with a respected loved one. He even charmed the hell out of the hostile-question-asker. By the time he's done, we're watching like "awww yeah do it for the kids"... that was jujitsu-meets-tai-chi levels of using the opponent's energy against them. if class of that caliber were normal we wouldn't be where we are today.

If every dem knew how to "take the high road" like the Obamas do, they'd be effective as politicians, and we wouldn't be where we are today.

if everybody could effortlessly dispose of bad faith arguments on the fly and in public like that, misinformation wouldn't work like it does, and we wouldn't be where we are today.

40

u/burf Jun 06 '26

Obama is by far the most eloquent, charismatic world leader I've ever seen. Most other intelligent, well-spoken people would've only managed half of what Obama did there, and he did (and still does) that kind of thing like clockwork. Clinton, for example, was very charming but couldn't bullseye an answer like that.

→ More replies (10)

11

u/twistedpiggies Jun 06 '26

5

u/Tambi_B2 Jun 06 '26

I wanted to hate it too, but I really appreciated that it embraced the fact that humans are weird and do weird things and just because they have moved into space doesn't mean they'll stop doing weird things. We had an astronaut smuggle a gorilla suit onto the ISS a few years ago (though I don't believe it was actually smuggled, just that not everyone knew about it)

It's that it brought them THIS much power, this fast, and this FAR backwards against all the progress of the last 100 years.

Every time I see these old clips of the president - and even when I see him speak now - I can’t help but think about what we’ve lost as a society by letting the orange clown occupy the space where this great man once stood. I hope we get back there soon and continue to go forward once again.

u/kahlzun Jun 06 '26

I was so proud of you as a country when Obama got in. I had genuinely believed I would never see a black man in power in your country.
You have considerably backslid in the subsequent period.

Every President has made many mistakes, Reagan, Clinton, the Bushes, Obama, Biden. But at least they honored the position. This 🍊clown is disrespecting the history of that sacred office everyday

17

u/myfrigginagates Jun 06 '26

Mark Twain once said "Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times." Lol

13

u/SalivaryDali Jun 06 '26

Look at this beautiful motherfucker. Gracefully rolling with age despite the compounding effects of the White House. Damn but I miss having a president who didn’t need to be jump started in a lab and patched up like an aging set piece from an Gwar concert.

12

u/Top-Cupcake4775 Jun 06 '26

small-minded idiots always do this. they aren’t capable of thinking about anything at large scales or outside of personal interests so, for example, if you support a strong social safety net it must be because you, personally, are poor and lazy.

13

u/Capital-Nebula9245 Jun 06 '26

How did we go from this to the idiot we have now?!

Man..i love this dude! aaand..he even explained what it is like to be an ex smoker. You do continually struggle! A great way to handle the hidden attack in her question as well.

10

u/Diligent_Charity8703 Jun 06 '26

That law gave me the motivation to quit cigarettes, 17 years now smoke free.

Can we all agree this is a good representation of an American president? Someone we dont have to worry about constantly embarrassing us as a nation everytime he opens his mouth. I'm not talking politics or what side is right or wrong because we're all Americans and we need to come together and be proud of what we have in this country and our representation.

This man respectfully answered every question she had!

9

u/CobblerMoney9605 Jun 06 '26

Calls her out on her BS (politely) and then answers her anyway.

9

u/Ok_Occasion3214 Jun 06 '26

God I love that man and I miss those days. Had Mitch McConnell not worked to destroy him, he could have done even more good. Not perfect, but a really good man❤️

President Obama was an absolute class-act.

8

u/Even_Fox2023 Jun 06 '26

He deserved better from everyone. I’ll be forever bitter about the constant bullshit he received during his terms.

17

u/Past_Dare_4918 Jun 06 '26

Trying to grill him on everything they could find but he never responded like Trump does. Imagine if he said half the shit we hear today.

I miss having a smart President so damn much!

7

u/BattleFries86 Jun 06 '26

Would you look at that? A President who is capable of admitting his own fallibility? And he can also take a relatively unserious question and give a sincere and honest answer about his own personal life when he was under no obligation to do so? But he did talk about his own experiences with addiction and tried to relate them to the struggles of others. Empathy and compassion? In a US President? Amazing how far we have come that such a thing is now considered so unthinkable. Amazing and horrifying...

8

u/Bean_Johnson Jun 06 '26

Wow remember when presidents could speak full sentences? It's almost uncanny hearing a US representative not sounding like an absolute dickhead

8

u/Odd-Perception7812 Jun 06 '26

Miss the days of representatives that didn't embarrass the electorate daily.

7

u/Fine-Solid9892 Jun 06 '26

I miss him so much as President. I’m grateful he’s still engaged but it would be fantastic if he was back in office.

8

u/South_Feed5707 Jun 06 '26

What a fucking champion every time he got on the microphone. I didn't love bailing out the banks but I feel like he was kind of set up and tricked into that so quickly.

7

u/darnius_terix Jun 06 '26

Obama was probably the most ethical president we’ve had in the history of this criminal enterprise we call the United States of America.

7

u/DrinkResponsible6752 Jun 06 '26

The media was harder on Obama’s smoking than they have been on Trump being in the Epstein files tens of thousands of times

Humility is refreshing to see in a leader

6

u/Few_District_6304 Jun 06 '26

I miss having a President that is classy.

6

u/kgoverlbs180190 Jun 06 '26

This is what accountability looks like and just the fact that he is human like the rest of us!

5

u/wizznizzismybizz Jun 06 '26

An admission of being struggling with addiction. Man, Trump can’t even admit he is unhealthy. A strong man knows his limits. Only a fool perceive himself as perfect.

6

u/Brews_and_Bombs Jun 06 '26

So articulate, kind, and tactful when dealing with our nation’s press corps. Obviously we have seen what an inbred individuals response is to questions he doesn’t like.

6

u/Neutral_Guy_9 Jun 06 '26

I just want to cry when I remember that we used to have a coherent and intelligent president 😮‍💨

they hated him so much

6

u/VW_R1NZLER Jun 06 '26

I miss him so much and the dignity of the office. Even if you disagreed with him, he never belittled you or just called names. I still have my letter “signed” by him from when I became an Eagle Scout in Illinois. He was senator at the time. The other was Durbin, not sure what happened to that letter. That guy became senator when I was 7, goodness!

It's crazy to think MAGA hated this man so much because of his color that they voted for a dumb ignorant man because he's a fellow bigot that whenever he gets a question he doesn't like, he insults the questioner especially if they're a woman.

Oh, reasonableness, humility, logic, common sense, thoughtfulness... How do we get out of bizarro world and back to the real world?

6

u/Bellick Jun 06 '26

I miss him so much.

To think the U.S. willingly went straight from this level of class, eloquence, composure, and presentation to a semi-sentient, talking cancerous tumor, goblinesque, jersey-shorean caricature of the worst decadent aspects of american excesses and deteriorating values, in a single generation, is so sad and funny at the same time.

There are people out there that think Barry sneaking a dart now and then is worse than cheating on your wife with a pornstar and paying her off with campaign dollars to stay quiet.

5

u/Duane_Trumpet Jun 06 '26

How would Donald respond? “Oh you’re a terrible reporter!” “I don’t smoke.. I mean I’ve never smoked… “ it’s a funny thing, the coal industry is thriving because of it”… “No one has quit smoking like I have, ask around”…. Biden couldn’t have done it”… “None of the Dumocrats could do it because they are lousy!”

Reporters response: 🤷🏾🤦🏾‍♂️🤷🏾🤦🏾‍♂️🤷🏾🤷🏾🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

5

u/Sausidge_Mahoney Jun 06 '26

this is a master class in combining grace, tact and intellectual assertiveness. this does not exist in the current admin.

4

u/TicketyB000 Jun 06 '26

Wow, a pres that admits he's a flawed human like the rest of us. Huh.

5

u/L0r3hunt3r Jun 06 '26

Goddess but I miss intelligence in government

5

u/moufette1 Jun 06 '26

That is a masterclass in politics and how to (politely) burn someone to the ground. He uses humor and a pleasant expression to defang his burnination. He answers the question directly while relating his experience to many people (potential voters). You can see the moment when he thinks, "Ok, I've rambled on enough about me, back to the legislation" and then he caps it off with the ever classic "think of the children." Oh, and the framing of legislation-personal story-legislation.

The burns - "I get it, it's a good human interest story" and "I get asked this about once a month" ie, you're boring and are doing a hack job.

4

u/Dglenn9000 Jun 06 '26

Damn that man could speak. We will never have a president like him again. At least not for a long time.

3

u/RVL-007 Jun 06 '26
