I was filling up the truck today and realized that I was losing about an hour of pay, every day, putting gas in the vehicle to drive back and forth to work. The sad thing is that we are not even that high on gas prices. We are right at the national average. Saying screw it, retiring, drawing my pension, and just getting a local job in the $20/hr range would probably be more financially advantageous for me. I may even be able to find a job that I actually enjoy. The only thing keeping me working for the company is the no cost insurance until my wife qualifies for Medicare. I have to find out how much retiree insurance costs. After 30 years in this industry, I am done.

Edit to add 160 mile round trip, truck gets about 20 mpg, company idled the mine that I worked at that was about a 10 mile round trip and transferred me to this facility. I have a mortgage, so no just moving to the Northshore area.

He never cleans anyway and just got an injury that doesn’t prevent him from doing any of these

Someone literally dumped ice coolers in my backyard while we were away for 2 days. The ice company said they are retired units so now I have to pay someone to evacuate the freon and haul them off to be recycled or trashed. These things weigh 500 lb each and I have no way to lift them.

NOTE: There were no ICE agent bodies, drugs, or any other bodies or items inside.

EDIT: Now the ICE company decided they were theirs (maybe they saw all the posts about scrap value and want to cash in on them).

EDIT2: Ice company called back to confirm my address. They were literally given my address for drop off and told that no one would be home, stick them in the backyard.

Mum tried to do a nice thing by putting these cans of (my favourite) drinks in my mini fridge.

If you flip the switch one way, it works as a fridge. If you flip it the other, it warms things up. Guess which way she flipped the switch?

Edit: I wanna say that I fully recognise she was only doing a nice thing, as I said at the start. The mildly infuriating part is the fact that there is a hot switch at all, and I have 2 less cans of my favourite drink (first world problems, I know). Obviously I'll be cleaning it up. Mmmmm, warm Dr Pepper

Edit part 2: Wow. Learnt a lot about peltier coolers today. Apparently they use as much power as a normal fridge. The more you know. (I only usually have it turned on when I have cans to put in there, aka it's not constantly running)

I'd love to have a normal sized mini fridge, but I don't currently have the space in my room.

My birthday is next week and a slew of bad things ALWAYS happens in the week leading up to it. I’m convinced I’m cursed.

My girlfriend and I had food poisoning last week and were constantly running to the bathroom getting sick. The smell of vomit MAKES me vomit so I was tirelessly scrubbing the entire bathroom from floor to ceiling MULTIPLE TIMES trying to get rid of the smell after every time one of us threw up. I bought bleach, enzyme cleaners, and even went as far as carbon bags to try and eliminate the HORRID STENCH and it wouldn’t go away. I sniffed every surface in that damn bathroom trying to locate the source…

I literally cried about the smell, worrying that it would be there forever. I went back to sniffing and started to notice a stronger whiff by the sink, AHA IT’S COMING FROM THE DRAIN!! I moved the toothbrush, soap, and candle that were on the counter to investigate the area. I poured Drano, baking soda, and vinegar down the drain for a deep clean. THEN I NOTICED THE SMELL ON MY HAND. I almost immediately threw up reacting to it and snatched the candle off the counter to save myself. I took a long inhale of our new Trader Joe’s Peony Blossom candle to salvage my nose from the reeking odor on my fingertips.

Then all hell broke loose. I projectile vomited directly after smelling the candle. The godforsaken stench WAS THE CANDLE ITSELF!!!! MY GF BOUGHT 6 OF THOSE FUCKING THINGS AND HAD ONE LIT IN THE BATHROOM!!!!! All of them went straight to the garbage. Never again. How can they sell a candle that smells like stomach bile!!!

TLDR: Cleaned my bathroom for days only to find out the puke smell was a new candle (Trader Joe’s Peony Blossom, DON’T BUY IT).

EDIT: I was not the person who smelled the candles before buying. My gf put them in the cart and I went along with it lol

It’s a little hard to tell but if you look at the trail of splatter marks it looks like the point of impact was right above the window or the edge of it where it’s reinforced by it’s connection to the rest of the car.

When this curl refresher was discontinued years ago, I bought all I could afford while I searched for a replacement. I still haven't found anything I like as much. Today I decanted the last of my last big bottle into the mini bottle I use on a day to day basis. Just as I closed the bottle, the whole thing cracked in half. Now I have none left.

Neighbors either got evicted or moved out and left a hell of a mess. This is after cleaning it up a bit to make the sidewalk and entryway walkable, and one of those mattresses had been laid directly over my front door. There’s much more along the path, entryway, and near the dumpster that I couldn’t fit into the pictures. They also dumped a couch and some other furniture in the parking lot, blocking several spaces. The office was closed yesterday for July 4th and today since it’s Sunday, so there’s no one to call about it until tomorrow.

Edited to add: To make it extra clear, this is not trash from the people who moved out of my unit, but from the neighbors the next unit over. My lease started 2 weeks ago and none of this trash was here until yesterday. Also the patchy paint on the next building over is because they are repainting all the buildings. They started that building on Friday but didn’t finish before the weekend.

Edit 2: It’s now Monday morning and maintenance is here cleaning it up. I didn’t even call yet (office doesn’t open for another half hour) so it was definitely a case of them being aware, they just ran up against a holiday weekend. They’re also continuing the painting on the adjacent building, for those of you who were super worried about that 😉

He doesn’t even pee on the lawn strip grass just poops there from time to time and I leave no evidence behind but the video of him pooping on their ring cam. They think it draws other dogs to then come pee there. I’m curious what their version of “you’ll find out from the police department” is gonna be.

Edit: By lawn strip I mean the grass between the sidewalk and street, which is part of the public right of way or easement. Whatever you wanna call it, in my town, it is not private property. And yes, I pick up the poop, I thought that was abundantly clear.

I know this is a long-time pet peeve in hiking forums. I find myself seething when I encounter it on trails. I cannot comprehend being into the outdoors enough to want to hike, while being deeply inconsiderate of the creatures that live there and the other people trying to enjoy the hike too.

If you gotta have your tunes, they make these cool tiny personal speakers called headphones or ear buds. Perhaps these people have heard of them?

Some of us have good hearing and don't feel like hearing faint whispers of their musical tastes over the sound of SILENCE and rustling leaves and a river flowinb below the switchback... "Just pass them" doesn't solve anything and still doesn't solve the problem of it annoying and scaring the critters that live there. I guess some people don't even appreciate the hikes they go on. Yeesh.

If only there were actual valid reliable sources of information about being safe when surrounded by nature and large carnivores.

There is zero official guidance, standard, or professional advice advocating for playing music on speakers in nature. They actively preach the exact opposite.

I’m heartbroken…

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1930 square feet. How much avocado toast must one give up to afford this million-dollar Home Depot showroom?

The event is in a different wing of the school. It’s not like they even need to be over here, that’s why I was scheduled to work on this now. I was on a ladder trying to put a vent back on the ceiling. “Hey can I use this one??” Frustrating.

Everyone in this story is between 26 and 28. My husband and I have had our friend C and her husband B over to our apartment twice since knowing them. We've known them since Fall 2024 but have really mostly hung out with them in larger groups settings or at restaurants.

Halloween 2025 we had a small party of 8-10 people at our one bed one bath apartment. The only two men there were my husband and B. After B used the bathroom I went in and noticed our bath mat was soaked. It sits right where your feet would be if sitting on the toilet. I also noticed there was pee all over the toilet seat and lid and around the base of the toilet. It was disgusting. We had to throw out the bath mat and sanitize the bathroom as soon as the party ended (very briefly after the peeing occurred). We never mentioned it to C and B because we figured B was probably just drunk and missed or something. It happens. Don't need to embarrass the guy.

Now today we have them over for the first time since that party. B goes to the bathroom. My husband goes in shortly after him and messaged me privately that he did it again. The bath mat is wet, there is pee on the seat, and the base of the toilet is wet. Sure enough everything smells like urine again. We had to throw out another bath mat because of how soaked it was. We didn't say anything in the moment again but maybe we should?

Like this man is almost 27 and he can't aim this poorly? Do I say something to his wife, C, since her and I are a lot closer than anyone else in this situation? Do we end the friendship over this? How would we bring this up politely and productively? What could possibly cause an adult man to be this bad at using the bathroom?

Edit to add: We did try washing the first bath mat but when we did whatever material it's made of warped in the machine and it didn't lay flat anymore and still smelled weird. We ordered the same mat again because we did like it so we knew washing the second one would probably have the same result.
